I get Leonard’s frustration towards penny when she shows more interest in science when she meets Dave, Leonard has tried to show her around the lab do ACTUAL experiments instead of “experiments”, but she had no interest until the hot guy comes into the picture, and then she suddenly shows more interest, and I’m definitely on Leonard’s side when he got upset at penny about it
@SusanaCanales1
@SusanaCanales1 3 жыл бұрын
Oh yeah, for sure. But it was mostly a shallow attraction. I still believe she does genuinely like him and her insecurities were also genuine. Like the reactor said, dating the “hot guy” is the easier option because his interest are more varied and align with hers and the feelings are purely shallow, and vice versa. He’s closer to the guys she’s used to. So basically her love life of chasing after guys like that seems to be her comfort zone. Leonard puts her out of that and that’s terrifying. But, again, Leonard did have a right to be upset. Absolutely. And I was with him when he expressed his frustration. It’s just not that simple. But he was also being a hypocrite again lol 😂 I’m gonna be honest. Especially considering he showed the same giddiness when he was approached by him lol
@iambluegossip
@iambluegossip 3 жыл бұрын
You don't get to be upset that a woman isn't into you. Penny doesn't have to show interest in Leonard's interests. She showed interest in those things because she was interested in the hot guy.
@asadahmad1455

What i hate most about penny is when she says sth like "if you don't care then y r u jealous?" like srsly, she, every time Leonard gets a gf, she's around them all the time, always in the middle of things deliberately, but Leonard comes in, with which was a valid reason, "that y r u interested in all these things now but when i wanted to show u they were all so bad" he's jealous
@SusanaCanales1
@SusanaCanales1 2 жыл бұрын
@@iambluegossip she doesn’t have to. But his interests are the same interests as the hot guy. If she’d have given it a chance when they were either dating and/or as friends, she’d see how cool it was. She’s a hypocrite, plain and simple. She probably assumed it was boring because of Leonard, but when it’s some guy she finds very physically attractive, it’s suddenly not? Doesn’t make sense. As I said, hot guy and Leonard share the same interests so it doesn’t make sense that she doesn’t display that same interest with Leonard as she did with the hot guy. They literally do the same work lol
@worldpeace6322
@worldpeace6322 2 жыл бұрын
I mean, Leonard should be aware of the fact that he's not a "hot guy" by Penny's standards. If he has any chance with her, it's definitely something he needs to work for, to make himself irreplaceable in her life, so that she finally chooses him. While a hot guy (again, by Penny's standards) will make Penny interested in whatever he's doing, just on the chance of getting with him (just like Leonard pretends to be into the same stuff as Penny in order to be with her). It's in the human nature that when you're physically attracted to someone, you start to pretend to be into whatever they're into. And Penny was never physically attracted to Leonard, as established since the first episode

12:34 - When it came out, it pretty much became everyone's favorite episode as the Sheldon Hugging Penny moment became the most iconic, most rewatched and most endearing event of the show (At least, this early on in the series as it was certainly not the last such moment in the series). Hold on to many of the thoughts/predictions/hypotheses you had both during and after the reaction (I won't say which as to not spoil anything, but you might be close on more than one of them).

When Penny gives Sheldon the napkin and then during Sheldon's hug, the audience response is amazing - and there's one particular male laugh that stands out. I think you hear that laugh in some later episodes. So, it must be a staff or crew member who works on the show. (I used to love the show "Taxi" and often would hear a very distinct laugh and I think it turns out that it was director James Burrows.)

I kept trying to think of the episode she and Leonard break up but yeah you're right. One ep she's his girlfriend and the next it's like she doesn't exist. But given all the many great and wonderful moments to come I'd say it was a small price to pay to just forget about her. Also has Eric said if once he's done with TBBT he'll react to Young Sheldon? Cause that would be awesome.

This was one of my fave episodes as well, mostly for that entire end sequence when Penny comes over to give the gifts. The banter between her and Leonard, showing that each of them are willing and capable of teasing one another without it being awkward. They were absolutely on the same wavelength with one another, perfectly understanding each other without any hurt feelings on either side. Leonard is just a wonderful human being who really has no sense of self worth (thanks Mom) and therefore no confidence. The moment he shows a little backbone, something happens to knock him back down. He is absolutely not as dumb next to David Underhill as he thinks he is (it's pretty extreme to think he can't beat David at checkers without David suffering a serious brain injury) and I get your point that David has other more sporty interests that make him attractive to Penny. But you have to admit the fact he's tall, dark, and handsome played a HUGE role in that attraction, and when added to his confident, self-assured nature, ofc Penny would be attracted. Leonard's self-confidence needs a huge boost, as you saw in the last episode when he found it impossible to assert himself with Stephanie and tell her, "These pants are making my skin break out" or "I really don't like this sweater." He even said to Penny when she told him he was allowed to say that things were moving to fast for his comfort; "You sure? That doesn't sound right." One of the things that kept this show going for so long was getting to see the growth of each of these young guys into fully actualized men. It takes a while, I admit, and any real person who took this long to move forward so little would be someone we would not care to know. But every time we are ready to quit because Howard's skeezy behavior is too gross or Sheldon's too damn ANNOYING or Leonard seems too weak and/or whiny or Raj reveals he's every bit as sexist as Howard ("He's an ass *all* the time. You just generally don't have to hear it."), there comes this humanizing moment that makes you realize there is a person buried under all those sitcom tropes, and that person is likeable and has a genuine, feeling heart. There is a character introduced into the series later who was genuinely and pretty universally hated for the first several episodes they were in, and we all pretty much wanted that character to go away. But then they go to Penny's door to check up on her after a dinner, and she ends up breaking down in tears. The character we all hated immediately enveloped Penny in a comforting hug with a truly sympathetic and caring expression, and the live audience and the ones at home all said, "Awwww!" and it made all the difference. That character went on to become one of the funniest ones on the show, and integral part of the growth of one of the leads. So just remember any time one of them frustrates you, that character will learn from the experience and become a better person for it.

I agree - but, honestly, I think her pretending to like science was just a way of flirting and David was probably well aware of that. It's not like David (who is very smart) would have been shocked (or would have cared) to find out that Penny actually wasn't interested in science.

4:09 What I don't get is why they called it Saturnalia - what did Saturn (the roman name for greek titan Kronos who castrated and overthrew his father Uranus/Ouranous, married his sister Rhea and then having heard a prophecy that he would be overthrown by one of his own children just as he did his father then swallowed every child his sister-now-wife gave him whole minutes after their birth) got to do with the crops?
@sirensong237
@sirensong237 Жыл бұрын
Saturnalia refers to the new year. Celebrating the end of one year and welcoming another. The act of saturnalia is about offerings and celebration. Back then, they would hang runes, decorations, and hunted prey in their trees to appease the gods, or to scare away evil entities, as it’s also believed that the trees are the “bodies” of Nature Spirits. That is why we now have red ornaments in our trees, because it symbolizes the drops of blood from the ancient offerings. Same goes for having lights and singing, to guide spirits of loved ones back home for the holidays. The tree in the house is the “beacon” or offer-point, as the fairy lights act as lanterns to guide them home. Being of Kronos, is symbolizes a new beginning in time.

Didn’t like penny in this episode. Well a lot of episodes I don’t like her character in it but this is just another one of them. You go to the university just because a cute guy asked you but your friend who’s asked you for a full year and half to show you around you lie to him??? So shallow and a very promiscuous person. It’s like when a hot guy hits on a women it’s fine, but have it be an ugly guy it’s considered creepy. Just so shallow and horrible. Why in the world are you letting a guy you just met take nude photos of you???
