Billy Murray has to be one of the first male popular artists .I beleave that his recording carreer began around 1908 and he recorded up untill the 1940's. there is no mistaking his voice. I have a lot of his songs on disk. another great listen thanks

Hey, Rick! Billy Murray had a long recording career. I have records of his from as early as 1904 and I think he was making cylinders before that. So, he goes waaaaaay back. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff

Been a bit behind catching up on videos. Lots of “stuff” going on with family and life in general (like everyone else I’m sure). Anyway, enjoying the tunes and info. Always enjoyable. Alcoholic Blues! What a hoot!

I really like the Grado 78 sound, very easy on the ears.

Hello, Martin! I agree. I really like the Grado cart. I've not compared it with others, so I can't say it's the best. But it sounds great to my ears. Skol! Jeff

This is good stuff Jeff! The sound of these records on your system sounds very good. I would be tempted to get into 78s but I think I would run out of storage space quickly. Ha! Very cool!

Ha! It can get overwhelming quickly. I began collecting 78s about seven months ago and now have several hundred. It took me a while to translate the categories into modern terms and understand the technology involved in recording by date. I now have a much more clear focus about what I want. My specialty is male quartets (since I sing in a barbershop quartet). Subscribed!

Hello! I don't have much bop on 78. I do have some bop-influenced big band recordings. Will definitely do a Listening Session featuring that music at some point. Thanks for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff

Are you familiar with Rivermont Records? Modern 78 pressings recorded by contemporary artists in the 1920's swing style?

Hey Jeff, Long time no speak! I hope you are doing well. I miss your videos. Hopefully you're just on a break and will be back making videos at some point. I actually am commenting to let you know that I've been thinking about starting to collect 78s. I wanted to see if there are any tips that you may want to share to someone like me just getting started. Of course I'll check the thrifts and the goodwills but do you have any Discogs or eBay sellers that you trust that you buy 78s from? I'll be referencing your past videos as a guide. I remember there are some books that you recommend. Anyway, I'll probably be doing this slowly at first. Again, I hope you're doing well. All my best! -Bill

Hello, Bill! Thanks for reaching out. Good to hear from you! Excited to hear you're considering collecting 78s! It is a fun hobby and opens a portal to so much amazing music! Yes, I've been taking a break from KZfaq. However, your question inspired me so I made a quick "Intro to Collecting 78s" video that I'll post today or tomorrow. Quick answer to your eBay question...I don't buy many 78s on eBay. So many eBay sellers don't know what they're doing. Their records are often overpriced. And they're often packaged poorly so end up broken during shipping. I have one seller on eBay that I've gotten to know, trust (for the most part) and do buy from: Bartrade Here's a link to his eBay store: www.ebay.com/usr/bartrade?_trksid=p2047675.l2559 Sometimes Bart tends to over grade his records. So I usually stick to records that he's graded E (Excellent). That way I know it's going to be something I'm happy with. He packages very well and I've never received records from him that broke during shipment. Speaking of 78s and shipping records...what are you interested in? Any ideas as far as labels, eras, genres, etc.? I would love to send you a VCLT package as an introductions to 78s. Send me your contact info if you're interested. jjelmquist@gmail.com Skol! Jeff

@@ToneInGrooves wow, Jeff, you are too kind! You actually filmed a video for this! I can't wait to watch that! And VCLT! Incredibly nice of you and very much appreciated! I'll shoot you an email. Thanks for the intel on Bartrade. I'll bookmark the eBay store and check it out when I can. My musical tastes are pretty all over the place. I've always enjoyed hearing everything you've played for the most part. I didn't think too much about this other than it's a new rabbit hole that I want to start exploring. I'd say jazz would be my biggest interest, bebop, big band, and vocal. But I'm very interested in collecting blues, early country in the likes of Jimmie Rodgers or The Carter Family, classical, opera. I'm open to it all I guess. I'm not as knowledgable with the 20's and 30s but have a little more with 40s and 50s. I do not know much about the different labels but am familiar with the main ones like Decca, RCA, Columbia, Brunswick. One label I am pretty interested in is Asch Records. I just don't know how common that label is. after

Back when Jan Garber was GOOD, not that Guy Lombardo clone stuff that he recorded later on. He also had a big band very briefly in 1942-1944.

Hey, Jeremy! Yes! I have some later Jan Garber on Decca. I enjoy it, but the earlier stuff from the 20's - especially the records with Tommy Christian - are fantastic! Thanks for watching and commenting. Skol! Jeff
