One of the coolest bands out there. Their colaborations with Amy Lee are awesome.
@AldoGuerraALDO-METAL3 жыл бұрын
The traditional drums are called Taiko drums. The banjo style instrument is called shamisen and it's not a brush but rather a large pick that fits the whole hand. They also incorporate a traditional flute called shakuhachi and a koto the traditional Japanese zither/harp, and their songs are sung in the traditional kabuki opera vocals. They're the kind of band you have to see live to really appreciate them. Not for playlist, but for an experience.
@RoteCorsair3 жыл бұрын
It´s not "kabuki traditional opera vocals"! This singing style calls "Shigin", what means "Poetry", and is an ancient way of reading poems in which some kanjis have a double "lexical- and musical" value. Shigin is considered as one of the most valuable traditional japanese arts. WagakkiBando singer Suzuhana Yuko is an accomplished and recognized Shigin artist. By the way, Kabuki was in its origin an "uneducated" (almost vulgar) way of theater played by prostitutes in the front of brothels in medieval Japan, that includes some music and songs that mocked traditional (== educated) Nō theater, miles away from Shigin... Greetings from the Southern Cross

Not many are able resist that part where Beni "Slice up" the Shamisen 5:02
@rudigerpawlik26233 жыл бұрын
Beni plays a Tsugaru-style Futozao (Thick Neck Size) Shamisen. The sharp, flashy style of tsugaru was played in the streets by the bousama (blind musicians) who developed a more lively style. Blind musicians at the beginning of the 20th century, including Shirakawa Gunpachiro Takahashi Chikuzan and sighted players like Kida Rinshoei developed a new style of play, based on traditional folk songs ("min'yo"), but with a lot Improvisation and eye-catching finger work. This style - known as Tsugaru-Jamisen, after the native region in northern Honshu - is relatively popular today in Japan. The virtuoso tsugaru jamisen style is sometimes compared to bluegrass banjo. The classic pick is called Bachi. The koto is a Japanese zither and the national instrument of Japan.The bamboo flute is called a shakuhachi and the second drum kit is a wadeiko The singer's very broad vibrato is typical of Shigin, a traditional poem concert style. Suzuhana Yuko, the singer of the Wagakki Band, is a certified teacher for Shigin. The style of dance that Yuko performs is called Kenshibu ('Sword and Poetry Dance') This is a category of Japanese interpretive dances performed to traditional music with poetry. Kenbu refers to dances that are performed with the help of a sword. (kzfaq.info/get/bejne/icyqmJqDltXRgok.html) and Shibu dance with one or more hand fans called Sensu / Ogi (folding fans).Originally it refers to dancing especially to shigin (a form of Japanese poetry, which is usually chanted) with a sword drawn. It is also called Kenshibu (sword and poetry dancing). The origin is from samurai. In the early Meiji period, Raifu HIBINO (originator of the Shinto school) organized the conventional dancing styles into the current ones by introducing some styles of swordplay. Singing and dancing are performed basically by different persons. The number of performers varies; sometimes one singer and one dancer, but often one singer and two or more dancers. There are no specific costumes for singers, but dancers wear a hakama (divided skirt for men), shiro-tasuki (white sash for holding up tucked sleeves), and shiro-hachimaki (white headband) to express the emotion of the poem. In some dances a fan is used along with a sword.

Wagakki Band is one of the best Japanese groups out there. They combine traditional Japanese instruments and vocal styles with modern rock, metal, jazz, and more. All eight members are master level musicians; and their lead singer, the very elegant Yuko Suzuhana, is definitely the best female Japanese vocalist I have heard. Wagakki Band is the only other Japanese group tat come anywhere close to BabyMetal in international popularity. The video for their song Senbonzakura has more views than Gimme Chocolate. Wagakki Band is even better live, as their stage shows are musical extravaganzas that rival the very best BabyMetal concerts.

Yuko (vo.) majored piano in Tokyo University, but studied shigin (poem reading/singing), kenbu (sword dance) ect. since kindergarten. She felt the traditional culture is kind of forgotten by the young generation in Japan. So she created the band with the goal to take the folk elements and art, mix it with modern music and reach more people, worldwide if possible too. Their first album is only covers. The instrumentals can only be seen live and vary much with combination of instruments through the years . "Homura" is the guitarist' solo work, before joining Wagakkiband. Fans chanting "Akatsuki no ito" instead of "encore". Here is what i (try really hard to shorten) suggest. I like how Wagakki Band incorporates traditional Japanese instruments, and I'd like to see more Japanese bands do this, at least for a song or two. The shamisen is like a Japanese banjo, only cooler. Two more reaction requests: Shishamo - Ningen kzfaq.info/get/bejne/bN-Xh7yptMmto30.html I know you reacted to them before, but this is their newest, and IMHO, a much better song. Also pretty interesting video. Also Nigami 17th birthday - koitsura aiteru kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rc2gZ9N4x9LDp4k.html I know nothing about this band beyond this video, but it seems like a fun funky video to react to.
