There are 10 subquests in Bailu and 15 in Niaowu. These subquests are easy to miss because they only become available at specific points in the story. If you advance too far without finishing them, you won't be able to complete them in your current playthrough, and progress on subquests doesn't carry over to NG+. Therefore, it's important to start and finish these subquests as soon as they appear.
It's advised to save your game right before starting and right after completing each subquest. This way, you can avoid losing progress if you accidentally miss a subquest, either by moving too far in the story or by not meeting the required conditions. Some subquests may become available slightly earlier based on your actions in the game, but the listed point is when they are definitely accessible.
Below, the subquests are listed in the order they should be completed. To start a subquest, approach the named person and look for a yellow flashing '!' in the bottom right corner of the screen. This indicates that a subquest conversation is available. Press Square to initiate the conversation and begin the subquest. Follow the subquest details to complete it, continuing to use Square for any additional conversations needed. Be careful not to talk to a subquest giver more than instructed, as this can cause Ryo to tell the person he couldn't complete the subquest.
