I dont see why a sequel couldnt happen. I imagine a large part of the budget went into creating a modern(ish) game engine. Theoretically with this in place it should be much easier and more importantly cost effective, to create a Shenmue 4. Suzuki is probably busy with the Shenmue anime right now but I imagine its possible a Shenmue 4 could be happening behind the scenes.

@@ComicCrossing The video said the engine used was Unreal Engine 4, they didn't create any engine. Considering the game vastly underperformed sales wise I don't think Suzuki will have much luck making another game, because as it was said in the video, kickstarter funding is not enough for a game like this and they need to find a publisher that is willing to lose money just to please the fans that, let's be honest, weren't very pleased with this entry in the first place.

Are you though? Dude had plans to make Shenmue into a long running saga so the third game just being a filler arc makes sense if the idea is that he can just keep making these games at his own pace and the long ass gap between 2 and 3 doesn't register with the developer as being a wake up call. Further all signs point to the developer being badly out of touch with the expectations of both his fan base, modern game expectations and the concept of the trilogy. Simply put, this is the game he was planning all along.

So as someone that didn’t own a next gen console at the time, was there another legal way to okay the Darkstalkers games on console? @@djhero0071 In itself it's not bad. But tying the success of ports to whether there should be a new game is dumb. Especially when the port was released. Capcom themselves over saturated the fighting game market within a few years. SF4, SF2HD, SF3 Online, MVC3, DS Resurrection, SSF4, UMVC3, MVC Origins, TvC, SFxT. And that's not even counting all the other fighting games being released by other companies. That's the entire point I was making. Yes, it's cool we got ports for those games. The whole thing with Suzuki's "I don't like playing games" approach is interesting, because other game developers have stated similar things before. Hideo Kojima himself already said that he doesn't really play games in his free time, that games for him are work. I think having the story without closure is the cardinal sin of Shenmue III, I'm sure a lot of backers backed it under the belief that a closure would be made, and being funded on a crowd platform is a gamble to revive a series on, given they may not back it a second time. I feel like the makers of Sifu, Slo Clap and possibly Either the Yakuza developers or Naughty dog should collaborate and remake the shenmur series and design an ending for it

The sad thing is that Yu Suzuki will always manage to find a small number of hardcore fans who will defend him no matter what, because they have nostalgia goggles glued to their eyes.

Shenmue was a marvel for its time for the mechanics it introduced, however with how much the gaming environment changed over the years, it would have had to make big strides in unique style to compete.

Based on the development time and the fact Yu wanted to make a dozen Shenmue games, none of us would see the end of this story in our lifetimes. I pulled my pledge on Kickstarter forthwith.

I dont like the argument Shenmue 3 fans make when hearing how 3 is outdated, saying things like; "Shenmue 3 is for Shenmue fans, what are you expecting?" Mainly because Shenmue was beloved because of innovation at the time, while 3 has no innovation and is outright outdated. Plus, the game was dumbed down to appeal to more audiences

"Is for the fans" is the strawman excuse that fans jump into when they have no real excuse. Just like how Godzilla fans trying to defend Godzilla PS4 with the exact same excuse.

It's impressive how Yu Suzuki's will actually was present in the final game. He stopped in time completely, and the only thing to his name was the promise of a triumphant Shenmue sequel. So the game ended up preserving that by not solving the plot at all, stopped in time like its developer.

I could have forgiven all of its issues IF and only IF the story had progressed in any meaningful way. It did not.
