When older games has deeper lore as you play it often

There is a fourth suttle instance of betrayal. When Task Force 141 raid the Gulag to rescue Price The Navy (under orders of Shepard) were dropping danger close ordinance. Then after the prisoner is confirmed to be price, navy ships starts bombarding the facility with 141 still inside.

Nobody seems to notice Viktor, happy you pointed it out too.

Given what Shephard wanted I'm only left half-surprised by this betrayal. Shephard wanted to be a war hero. Can't be a war hero with a war, so he sold out the HVI in order to keep the war going until he was ready to claim victory after disposing of TF141.

Thinking about it, I wonder if Viktors death because of Shepard is the reason why Makarov is so willing to give out information to Price in “Enemy of my Enemy”

What about when Shepherd ordered the navy to bomb the gulag where Roach and Soap were rescuing Price in while they were still inside? Doesn't that count too?

To throw a wrench into the theory, US comms aren't as secure as they can be, and Makarovs guys are pretty damn good at their job. They could have hacked comms to figure out what the US forces were planning and overheard the challenge and countersign. Regular Russian forces were already in the house, it makes sense that special forces would be as well for an HVT. My theory on why this could be, is because there is fresh blood on the ground, and IIRC when you shoot any of the body's they still spray blood as though they were recently deceased.

Shepherd betrays his men a 4th time later on in the game. In "Just Like Old Times" Price and Soap fight their way through the bunker and make it outside of the room rigged with explosives. Shepherd notices that his booby trap failed to yield the results he intended, in light of this he orders what seems to be a nearby artillery unit to hit the area he believes Price and Soap to be. When the barrage comes down, it blows up an encampment area where a substantial amount of Shadow Company operators are set up. Price and Soap are untouched by the strike, but most of the Shadow guys in the area are killed or wounded. If we were to count every event like this you could list almost every mission in MW2 as a betrayal by Shepherd, so make of it what you will.

Maybe both Viktor and that Russian Solider you find at the fridge downstairs was leading a attack on the house. So im guessing Shepherd told Viktor about the H.V.I and where he was to take him out and when both Viktor and a random Russian Solider went upstairs the H.V.I saw them and shot Viktor killing him but the other Solider shot and killed the H.V.I

There is 4 betrayals, 4th being the one when Cpt. Price and others went to the gulag and Shepard told aircraft to attack even though they got most of the Ultranacionalists.

You know what's an interesting detail; As you approach the HVI's house you see two American aircraft take off from the hill behind the house and fly off. Those aircraft couldn't have landed there while the Russian AA gun was set up, so maybe Makarov's men and/or Shadow Company landed there to kill the HVI, saw that the Russian army had set up an AA position nearby, and asked Shephard to have the Rangers clear out the AA position so they could get away. The intro cutscene for this mission uses the Shadow Company theme and it's the only mission to do so where they don't appear.

Technically he had 4 betrayals if you count the one where he sent an airstrike on shadow company while trying to kill Soap and Price

when i played the mission that scene did seem off... i didn't know it was victor from the no Russians mission i never paid attention to that...i guess it makes sense because after that mission i dont think shepard commands the army regiment after that and goes back with 141...after knowing that the HVI was killed he was able to "tie up another loose end"

Always find it a bit weird to suddenly to go this location and basically everyone was dead in there, but never gave much thought about it. But this makes so much sense!

You're leaving out the part where you the moment you realize the prisoner you're rescuing is Price the Navy begins a bombardment of the prison with Shepherd giving you an excuse that "they won't hold their fire any longer" pretty heavily implied that he ordered them to fire, probably suspected that Price would discover his aid to Makarov, and was attempting to kill Price before he could escape while framing it as an accident

Makarov betrayed Sheperd to Price in the end. In ‘The Enemy of my Enemy’ dialogue. Sheperd tried to kill the 141 and Makarovs private army in the boneyard, along with being responsible for getting Victor killed.

Shepherd betrayal just didn’t hit as hard in reboot MW22, I think part of the reason is because I know what’s gonna happen cuz of og, but at the same time it wasn’t actually shepherd who did the betrayal but ordered graves to betray tf141, they made shepherd less badass in the reboot

That’s the remake. In the original it’s not Viktor at the panic room door, it’s the CIA double agent you play as in No Russian. Either way, it’s designed to look like a set up.

The cut shadow man ending in MW3 actually makes sense now that I watch your vid, Makarov, Shepherd, maybe even 141 were unknowingly being pawns to the same group. Since Makarov killed 30000 of Shepherd's men in MW1, it wouldn't make a lot of sense the two of them working together, at least knowingly. So it could be possible that the shadow man/group leaked the pass phrase to the Inner Circle. Makarov was their catalyst in starting WW3, and Shepherd was ordered 141 to take care of Makarov (maybe under the guise of letting Shepherd to get his revenge, whatever). Makarov, not knowing he has been marked for death by the group, continue to do dirty work for the group. When 141 assaults Makarov's safe houses, the group ordered Shepherd backstab 141 because there maybe intel that connects Shepherd & the group involvement in the No Russian operation. Looking at the cut MW3 ending, it appears that things ended largely in the group favor, with Shepherd and Makarov dead, 141 wiped out, and they achieved their goal.

My theory always was the line wasn’t secure and shepherd KNEW it wasn’t.

I actually had been stumped on the details behind this part of the story, because it wasn't really picked up before nor after the mission. I didn't look into any lore or info about this pert of the mission myself, but I always tried to piece it together whenever I played. I was confused as to how they managed to execute the HVI without leaving signs of forced entry. It didn't occur to me that Makarov's operatives might have known the Challenge phrase as well. This makes a lot of sense now. I would still like to know what exactly the HVI was carrying.

i feel like there is one more betrayal, but it is more to shadow company. At the final mission, shephard uses bombs and bombs his soldiers hoping to kill price and soap.
