It's mentally easier to not have to depend on anyone financially and to be in total control of your life. Now the caveat comes in if you have children while being independent (by choice), then yes, that's where you ladies have it harder. However, the social acceptance and status you receive from being a high earning achiever as a woman in this modern day is the norm, which is what makes it a bit easier to deal with.
