This is the exact same department where the officers shot into their own patrol car with a handcuffed suspect because an acorn fell on the the car and spooked the officer.

@@hugoh.9694 2nd degree or manslaughter. In order for it to be 1st degree, you have to show intent. There must be planning or a conspiracy. Based on the video, it looked like a spur of the moment reaction, rather than a planned event. The prosecutor would never be able to get a 1st degree case on with this one. Plus, why would it be necessary for anyone in his right mind to feel the need to have a firearm with him to answer a knock on the door, especially in that neighborhood? If you need to be armed to open the door, wouldn't it be better just to leave it shut and avoid the problem on the other side of it?

Why is this kid answering his door with a gun?
@ronp-eb9bh
@ronp-eb9bh 2 ай бұрын
Because he thought that it was a possible home invasion. He couldn't hear the deputies voice as he was on the Internet with his girlfriend, likely wearing noise cancelling headphones. The only thing that Rodger felt was deep thumping noises coming from the direction of his entry door 🚪. That's why the young Airman secured his peace maker. He never pointed it at the deputy. The deputy started shooting Roger before even telling it asking him to just lay down the weapon. The deputy failed to identify if he was at the right apartment and failed to use basic interpersonal (IPC) skills. He saw a black man with a weapon and thought 'F-it, this black dude is going to die today' and that's where the deputy F-ed up. He though that Roger was a bum or a felon, and that this would get swept under the rug. Turns out Roger was an upstanding young man who served in the uniform of the less than 1%.

@@ronp-eb9bh I think you're sugar coating it with the racism but aside from that I would agree. However, coming from someone who lives in Canada, it is extremely rare that a person would present a deadly threat when opening the door. I feel like that situation makes it extremely dangerous for police to work with people who all have access to weapons. Problem with this is that you have 0.5 seconds to react to a deadly threat and either take the time to kindly ask for the weapon to be dropped and risk getting shot by this stranger or eliminate the deadly threat. Now again, ways to avoid this situation is to clearly and loudly announce yourself as being police or a sheriff and stand at the side of the door so you are not caught in the open frame with a gun facing you, giving time to disengage and reposition yourself to challenge that threat. It is a shit show and avoidable but being in that officer's shoes, it is not unusual for that to have taken place if you consider overall policing practice around the world.

Because he knew there was a cop on the other side, and the radical black went to get a gun to start something. The cop finished it.

@meatpopsicle1567 yes they do, some departments/academies train officers to conduct fishing trip traffic stops. That's unlawful because it violates presumption of innocence. The police don't give a sh*t so it's up to citizens and lawmakers to explicitly outlaw this. The military treats ppl from other countries better than US police treat citizens from our own country.

The woman who sent the officer to the wrong apartment needs to face some kind of consequences also. She gave contradictory information to the officer. She even said that she wasn’t sure where the yelling was coming from but then she gave him an exact apartment number.

To be fair, having the police check out a potential disturbance or domestic violence incident shouldn't end in anyone dying. My mom was in an abusive relationship when I was a kid and the neighbors would call the cops all the time because they heard screaming. Nobody ever got shot. This wasn't how it was supposed to play out even if she'd given the right apartment number. She probably was confused. She shouldn't have told them any apartment number unless she was sure, but they weren't supposed to just stroll into an apartment and kill him. It's likely she confused his apartment with the apartment where they'd called multiple domestic violence calls before. Also, she says it is apartment 1401 and his apartment was supposedly on the 3rd floor?
