Away down South in the land of traitors
Rattlesnakes and alligators
This operation was a rough one when it came to performance and the pure concept of line warfare in ArmA 3, but thanks to the regiment being good sports it ended up being a very fun operation. The cannons were from Nassau, and look gorgeous to see flying overhead.

For real, the Union Dixie is so goddamn catchy. Like it's earwormed its way into my head. Only problem is, if you're just humming it, it's indistinguishable from the Confederate Dixie, which leads to some... shall we say... awkward moments.

While it is nice to practice with these Napoleonic Lines by the later years of the Civil War the Open Order Revolution was in full swing, especially with the Trench Warfare in the Siege of Petersburg where the Union Army developed something akin to proto-Stormtrooper tactics. Soldiers on both sides often used cover when firing and two massed lines of infantry shooting into each on an open field became very rare as Civil War weapons were deadly accurate, just look at Fredericksburg and Gettysburg. At Fredericksburg the Army of Northern Virginia didn't stand in line formation in a field, they were behind a stone wall and used cover effectively. The Yankees did something similar at Gettysburg and one only needs look at the fighting on Culps Hill where Federal Troops used breastworks and Confederates kept a looser formation going through the woods so as the effectively use cover.

I participated in this op, and i can tell you, the Guns were incredibly inaccurate (atleast in my opinion). While i agree it probably wasnt the most realistic, there was probably a reason why Rimmy decided to do Lines instead
@darrenb209-
@darrenb209- 10 ай бұрын
While all of this is true of the late civil war, at the start the US was still using standard muskets and standard tactics. Muskets having actual proper accuracy required rifling and minie balls. While the most common weapons used during the US civil war had both, that was the most common taking into account the whole of the war. The tactics *and* weaponry displayed in this battle mark it out as either the first year of the war or a later battle using gear from the first year. The cannon is clearly using old style balls, while also being clearly quite old and the guns have the accuracy of an unrifled musket using a standard ball and so on. They're not the *right* guns, with a few exceptions but they're all clearly stand ins for early war weaponry.

Ah yes, I remember history class where we talked about Commander Rimmy and his Cadian XXth leading the charge to Vicksburg as a part Sherman's army. Good times. God Bless the Union! A successful operation. As to be expected by the Cadians when doing historical reenactments full of amazing memonts of badassary from everyone in the video. That final charge most of all. And that ending screenshot and cannonshot was the perfect way to end both the operation and video. And When Johnny Comes Marching Home, and the other songs, playing just made this so immersive and amazing!
