UPDATE April 2022: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rbd9Zs-JxrW-gHU.html Hey all. I figure this would be the best place to post I'm doing a full rewrite on the scripts for parts 3 and 4. I'm pleased with the scope, but not with how the information was presented as it can be made much more entertaining. Makes sense considering how rushed I was to write the full documentary script in the first place (full research and 50,00+ word count in 3 weeks). My original plan was to have all 4 parts done before Rehydrated, but as we know, the game was announced way earlier than expected so that became unrealistic. This encouraged me to focus on perfecting the first 2 parts, since there was no way I'd finish all 4 in time and I wanted to release 3 and 4 together. Simply because they're part of the same story, just split up because of length (this was originally supposed to be a trilogy). But with the increase in quality for the first 2 parts, my standards for the final 2 are way higher. It may take a long time to get them done, but I promise they'll be worth the wait.

I had a great time running this game in 2016, and I feel honored to be featured in this documentary. Time goes by so quickly, a lot of the events noted in this video feel like they happened only a year or two ago. I remember watching some of the featured runs and reaction clips live, and experiencing them again makes me feel a sense of joy and nostalgia. This community has worked tremendously hard, especially after my short involvement in 2016, to optimize their categories and market the game into increased relevancy, and that's something to be very proud of. A new chapter in BfBB's speedrunning journey will unfold before us with the launch of Rehydrated, and I cannot wait to be there for it.

As an editor for several informational videos I myself put together, people need to hear this. I sincerely hope this doesn't get lost in the messages. Edit: Yay it didn't. People need to understand that part 2 itself is great but putting part two together is beyond people's wildest imaginations. The amount of transitions, transformations, fades, re-edits, ken burns effects, and compositional storytelling edits put into this video beyond exceed my wildest expectations. Shift is someone who streams, speedruns, spearheads the hype for an updated game, and communicates with so many people IN ADDITION to editing this video, a very busy person. He deserves every ounce of credit for balancing many aspects of his life into fruition. It takes a lot to be who he is for he is a veteraned, industrial, experienced, valued, and revered member of the online speedrunning community. He deserves to be an inspiration for all, and everyone on earth knows it. not to mention the selfless act we all know he is doing in putting others before him. There is no doubt on earth he is a once in a lifetime person we all get to admire.

"In the meantime, we sincerely wish you the best experience with BFBB Rehydrated." I have ABSOLUTELY no explanation for this, but as soon as that line was said, I instantly smiled and cried my eyes out. This game truly defined my childhood. I'm just a casual player as I simply never had the time or motivation to dive into professional speedrunning (though I've been a fan of speedrunning since I watched SHiFT at GDQ. Yes, the one in this very video), but since I was a kid till now, it has always been my favorite game by a landslide. For the past 15 years, I have been consistently 100%'ing it about once or twice a month. I just finished up my freshman year at college, and before we all were sent back home, I would sit in my dorm room with my GameCube playing this game all the damn time. My roommate, friends, girls, etc. would not ~necessarily~ make fun of me, but they would always say to me that they just don't understand the appeal of a SpongeBob video game from 2003 being played by a 19-year-old college dude. I'll tell you, it is hard to come up with an explanation! But I figured by leaving this comment for members of this AMAZING community of active speedrunners, and pure fans to read, I have this to say: BFBB is more than just a video game to me. It is a piece of art in ways that only those who have direct experiences with it can even fathom. It is beautiful, a ton of fun, and NEVER gets boring. When I first heard the news about the HD remake, I decided to commit myself to a VERY VERY VERY challenging task. I decided to make a vow to myself involving a written contract (which, yes, I actually signed) to never look at a single screenshot, video, trailer, article, or anything relating to Rehydrated until I had a controller in my hands, and was playing it myself. I want my first experience with this game to me magical, breathtaking, and extremely emotional. Now that we are LESS THAN TEN days away from that dream becoming a reality, I have been successful in my vow (thanks to a clutch closing of the eyes after that picture was shown at 1:28:56 that says "The Battle Is On") and literally cannot contain my excitement to spend my entire day playing the shit out of this game on the Switch come the 23rd. I would like to close this comment with a message to SHiFT [so if you've read this far into this, don't be shy, and give me a like to he might see this(: ]. I first found out who you are after GDQ 2017. Your run absolutely blew my mind and made my jaw drop witnessing everything that you did. You took a game that I've been in love with for years and gave me an even deeper appreciation than what I already thought I had. Please forgive me, I am not very active on Twitch so I am not a sub of yours, but I am very active on your KZfaq channel and I've been following you for years. You are most definitely the driving force behind this game getting an HD remake, and I obviously know that you're streaming it early. I am SO excited to watch that stream, but it will not be live, because of what I said earlier about my vow. Thank YOU for taking a child-friendly video game from almost 20 years ago, that I always felt like such a nerd for playing, and making it into what it is today. And for anyone else reading this far, thank you for doing so. I RARELY comment on YT, let alone this long-ass paragraph so seriously, thank you for not just skipping over some heartfelt emotions about this game. We are SO CLOSE people. Let's kick Rehydrated's ass!

When I first heard about this project, I'll admit I was confused why you wouldn't partner with someone like summoningsalt. Now I understand why. This level of pure passion and quality could only have been achieved by those who had poured their heart and soul into this game. Part 3 cannot come soon enough.

This was an absolutely beautifully intense and powerful documentary/story. This documentary series has gotten me so invested in a game I didn't even know existed until I found out about speedrunning that I ended up crying at the end of this video. I'm so happy for the time and dedication that went into what was destined to be a forgotten licensed game and to see all that dedication pay off in the most beautiful way. It's rare for the stars to align in such a way to bring people together and see a game once thought to be an nonoptimal speedrunning experience to one of the most iconic speedrunned games of all time. The fact that we're only somehow half way through the history this far into development is insane to me (and who knows what future may hold as well). I don't really know where this goes from here but I can't wait to find out! Though I don't personally speedrun (in fact it normally takes me twice as long as most people to beat games casually) the concept and history of it all has always fascinated me. So thank you to all the speedrunners who have put there time and effort into the game.

God, legendary video. This 4 part series is gonna shake me to my core when its all out there to be seen. The comedy, the tension, the personal growth shown and the triumph is something I can't say I've ever seen before when learning about games and how they were speedrun. I feel proud to love this game and I'm excited to see the most modern strategies be shown in the coming videos.

This was my first game I ever received at the age of 4 for Christmas along with a series of unfortunate events the game I had an intense love for this game and I’ve played all throughout my childhood to this day. A couple years ago I stumbled upon one of your videos seeing your records and thinking this was impossible and sure enough a younger me scoffed thinking “he’s cheating” but as I saw rehydrated was on its way out I figured I’d watch your full history video and I feel a combination of sadness and happiness, I should’ve joined in this speedrunning community long ago but I’m happy to see one of my most favorite games enjoyed by so many and not just me and my brother. I really appreciate you guys. I can’t wait to see the next 2 parts.

This and part 1 have become a couple of my all-time favourite videos! I genuinely love how much passion was put into this, ranging from the editing, narration, and the storytelling! You, SMloader, and everyone who contributed did such an amazing job! 💛 I really look forward to parts 3 and 4! I hope it goes well for you and everyone involved in the process, and stay hydrated as well!

So many things in this video register emotionally for me. Namely, the AGDQ hype. That was insane. You can't really hear about a story like this and not feel something inside. Complete respect to you and your community. And massive appreciation for how real and transparent this video series is. I doubt anyone can come away from a video like this without having a newfound respect and deeper appreciation for this community.

I've been an avid watcher of speed runs for about 3yrs, loving seeing people push a game to its lightning limits. I still own this game from when I got long ago on the Gamecube. But recently seeing summoning salts "history of" videos and then average tray joining in for his respective game, this I what i look forward to the most. SHiFT, these videos are fantastic and i thoroughly excited for the last 2 parts. Keep it you two!

Finally got around to watching this While I originally intended to just drop a meme "bruh you're insane" here and move on, I really gotta sing this video's praises. Not only were the jokes and cameos on point, but the emphasis on community togetherness painted a clear picture in my head of what it was like to witness the "golden age" of BFBB firsthand. The tricks were also explained in a way that I feel I could understand even if I didn't have any prior exposure to this game at all, which is no simple task.

This and part 1 were both great videos! My mom bought my BFBB for Xbox from Costco when I was 6, and i had no clue you and so many other speedrunners were the ones paving the path for rehydrated to happen. Thanks for making these, and I’m looking forward to watching part 3!

It's such a beautiful thing. I can't believe this little licensed game from my childhood would come back and stay with me in such an odd way. This game is really something special. I felt that the first time I played it. It's up there with Mario, Crash, Banjo, Spyro and all of them to me. All of you playing this game reminds me of when I sat alone on Friday night when I was a little kid. My little sister in bed, my dad out hanging out with his friends, my mom in the other room watching TV, leaving me alone with our living room TV to play this game for hours. It brings back such great memories. And you guys doing your thing has only kept the good memories a flowing with this game. It's one of the things in my life that seems to give me constant joy, endlessly in different cycles. With the remake coming out now, and Shift and everyone doing this and hyping it feels like the day I've been waiting for. I know it sounds stupid coming from a Spongebob licensed video game of all things. But this game made my childhood. It provided me something to do and numb the pain from how difficult school was for me at the time. I was bullied alot and had few friends. Spongebob was always the thing I could turn to to make me happy and in turn this great game. And now in my adult life it continues to be something that brings me out of the rough and harsh world we live in and feel comfortable and relaxed. Spongebob is timeless, evergreen, and a welcome escape from our world. Obsessions come and go, (Pixar, Sonic, other Nick shows, etc), but Spongebob and this game to me are forever. I am incredibly happy people like Stephen Hillenburg and his fantastic writing crew and dedicated game developers like Heavy Iron Studios and Purple Lamp Studios exist to create such a great legacy that can bring a smile to so many people's faces from one character alone. And thank you SHiFt, for continuing the legacy of this little Sponge who lives in a pineapple under the sea, and all of his legacies outside him. It's an honor to my childhood and the testament to the timelessness of the late Stephen Hillenburg's vision. Thank you.

It's incredible to see this game come so far just from a few dedicated fans. I remember waking up and watching the AGDQ run live and was blown away by how optimized the game was and it was one of the first games to get me interested in speed running. Thank you so much for telling the story of this game and its speedrun community, it has been incredibly entertaining to watch so far and I'm very excited for the next two parts! Keep up the great work!

It’s actually an actual phenomenon called a brine pool, water with salinity (salt concentration) so high that it can’t mix with the water around it. It’s so dense that it creates a distinct shoreline with the surrounding water. The brine pools are very toxic to marine life, not only due to the high salinity, but also the high concentration of hydrogen sulphide and methane gasses. Honestly everyone at goo lagoon are living like Larry considering the dangers

I really love these! I don't have the time nor will to sit through hours of people streaming but ever since watching a couple of Summoning Salt videos I've been interested in videos like these. Though not really bite sized it's much better than seeing someone potentially get a world record! Great job on these!
