Lost mine at 18 yrs old 2 months ago. Still think of him daily. swore I'd never get another dog and here I am looking at Shih Poo. Until I had Clancy I wasn't a fan of little guys. He turned out to be a big dog in little guys body, friendly and protective of my kids growing up. By far the best dog I've ever had. The poodle side is a blessing and they're incredibly Smart but also a curse, can be obstinate too. Never had a dog in bed till I got him. God I miss him. Had his dignity till the end but his body was giving out and he was nearly blind. Even though I know I did the right thing at the end I still beat myself up. Had him for a quarter of my life

My mom and I have had our shih-poo for a year and some change now, and they're really sweet. Very attached to their owners, but they still live to explore. I'll try to give a short rundown of my experience with the little guy. They don't grow too big, and they actually don't eat much. Try not to fill their bowl up super high, but don't underfeed either. So like I said earlier, they're clingy, but they live to explore and walk around on their own. Though, they'll probably want to explore WITH you. Now I can't speak for every shih-poo, but mines is a bit more clingy... He barks for attention, he likes to kiss a whole lot, he's very sweet with new people (except for those he doesn't like for... whatever reason) and he's very overprotective. Whenever my mom yells at me, he barks at her. It's hilarious AND cute. But I think they find themselves to be guard dogs, but also very affectionate and playful. Mine LOVES to play. Though, be mindful. They bite when they play, and they like to bark sometimes too. Another thing is that they'll let you know when they're uncomfortable. When picked up, mine will start licking me as a way of saying "please put me down". When given medicine, mine will cry and try to get away. Also! When he gets his hair (yes, they have hair not fur. They're hypoallergenic on both sides!) dried, he'll try to jump off the chair and rub himself on everything to dry himself. I remember when we first saw him when he was a puppy and still had to live with the breeder, he ran right over to us and started licking us- it's like he knew he was ours. But like I said, shih-poos are very sweet with most people they meet. Hmm, what else?? Oh! So they're really smart, but they can get frustrated easily during training. I've managed to teach mine talk (bark on command), roll over, lay down, go to bed (or go to your room), up (walk on hind legs) "in a circle" (stand up on hind legs, walk in a circle), and sit and stay. Sometimes when they don't understand stuff, they'll bark or start biting. This is how I taught him "talk". Though, sit and stay can be a bit hard, especially when you turn your back to them or go somewhere outside of their line of sight, even if they can still hear you telling them to stay. They're great listeners, but they still like to express themselves and know that you're there. Make sure to let your shih-poo have lots and lots of exercise too! This goes for all dogs, but shih-poos love to play and explore, so take them on lots of walks and play with them often. This will keep them from getting sad or bored. Mine likes to jump on the bed to either wake me up, or sleep with me. They'll know when you're about to go to sleep after a while. (Especially if you let them roam while you sleep instead of keeping them in their cage) So they usually get up under your side when you sleep, unless they want to wake you up! And when they want to wake you up, you better cover your face, or else you __will__ get doggy kisses. Ah, and potty training!! So... we still can't crate train the little guy, but potty training shih-poos is relatively easy if you know how to stick to a schedule. Take them out every.. 2 hours, and 20 minutes or so after they eat. That way, they know that the outside is their bathroom. Mine even started walking to the door and biting me when he has to go. Again, they're VERY smart! They even recognize when you want to take them out. I think that's all I've gotta say with my experience on having one?? I hope this was helpful!

Changing Rocky’s water from Tap to Filtered made a huge difference. He no longer has eye drainage or eye mucus. An easy fix, it may take 4-8 weeks for all the impurities to be removed from your pup but it’s worth it. Rocky hates when I mess with his eyes and this helped keep his eyes clean.

I got a 9 month old back in December, he's about 16 months now. Best dig I could've asked for. Very well tempered, great around people of all ages, very playful even full grown, and super loyal. I was a little concerned since I was buying him from his original owners at 9 months but he adjusted very quickly. Only thing I had to do was keep wires and cords not on the floor and get a trash bag with a lid. Other than than very excellent dog!

my shipoo is only 3 month and shes really good with potty training, shes almost fully potty trained. she freaks out and gets so exited to see ANYONE.

Mine has brought me out of some dark places. Absolutely Love my best mate. Don't care she is literally like my child. (No she's never been "walked" in a bag.) We hike daily and she runs, bounces and hops through the grass and fields. It's so funny. She also rings a bell when she needs the toilet.💙

We just lost our Shih Poo Bailey. We've had her and her litter-mate sister Bailey for fourteen years, five months. They are wonderful family pets. Bailey was our pack alpha and the center of our family, very spirited. Sister Molly is laid back and a sweatheart.

One characteristic not mentioned is they hide their "treats" for later. Hilarious watching our Benji go to great lengths hiding his treats while his son, Oscar, watches, waits and strikes.

I was always a cat man. Low maintenance and lots of attitude. Then Bumble came. Wont lie, thought he was a Shitpoo for months. About 7 months old, we were given him by a lovely woman who lost her 12yr old son in a high profile case and got him for company. It wasnt working out there for them and we had him within an hour of seeing 'free to good home' in classifieds. Thankfully, noone from a good home got in touch, so he came to us. He is every single piece of info and advice in this vid, from looks, to seperation anxiety and clownish behaviour. Hard work. The cat bullies him, he is terrified of her but fascinated. They are a great pooch...enjoy folks!

I dearly love my Shihpoo Isaiah. He is such a blessing and the unconditional love Isaiah gives his mommy is endless. I wish I could breed him because I would love to have one of Isaiah's male puppies. Isaiah is 3 years old His colors are milk chocolate an white. Isaiah has the poodle hair But the Shihtzu markings. Isaiah has the Shihtzu gorgeous tail. An Isaiah has gorgeous eyes too. They are green in the center and brown on the outside. Isaiah is definitely a mama's boy💙💙💙💙💙

As a shihpoo owner I’ve had my little buns for 5 years and I must say, if you want a dog but do not have the space for a big dog, I REALLY DO RECOMMEND A SHIHPOO, like this video says they are very happy, cute, and clumsy at times. My friend also has this bread and they are also very friendly . Shihpoos are an excellent breed to have

My mom's shih poo is the perfect scout dog: when I was on a walk one day he went one way until I couldn't see him, the next way until I couldn't see him, and the last way until I couldn't see him. Bruiser's a good dog

Drawbacks? None, I love my shipoo, glad Rocky came to my life! You make your dog what you what it to be! Mine loves outdoors, hiking, kayaking, etc. As well as staying in bed. Shipoo is a very smart dog, pleasing and learns fast! Nope, you don't need to brush their hair everyday- never tangles because it has half fluffy curly and straight. To prevent red eye, keep their eyes clean (just cut the hair around their eyes).

Hi, I have an 8 month old and the potty training part is a bust 😩 I’ve done the every 2 hours/ 20 minutes after he eats and he doesn’t catch on. It’s currently snowing where we stay and all he does is eat the snow and play with sticks 😂 but won’t use it outside. He waits until he’s in his kennel to let it all out. Is there an easy trick? More treats? Help please 🫶🏾 i like him but this potty training is getting the best of me and my husband. We got him for our 4 year old and he adores him!

My family and I have a Shih-Poo (We say Shitza-Poo). His name’s Partner and one of my best friends.

I’m thinking of getting a shh poo after my 11 yr old pug has cancer and our other pug desperately needs a play mate. We know sadly we will lose our pug that has cancer soon sadly. I’ve decided to do some research and not just buy another pug because of the health issues with pug’s. Plus my pugs are extremely soft and I don’t want aggressive dog that could cause my pug injuries. I love pugs and how they are I just feel so sorry for them in the summer that’s why I’d like a breed like the shh poo. If anyone has any advice about the shh poo I’d be extremely grateful. I’m dreading my old pug passing but I also know my other pug will miss his play mate. I’m not sure whether to get one before my older pug gets so sick or to wait until he passes. It’s a difficult decision to make . Been truthful if it was me I’d leave it a while before getting another dog but I’m thinking of my pug who’s never been alone without a Friend to cuddle up to and play with. It’s going to be heartbreaking either way. ❤

The stubbornness definitely comes from the shih tzu side. I have a shih tzu yorkie mix, and they are extremely stubborn if you introduce a certain way of doing things or a certian food they will become used to it and it will be hard to introduce something new to them witxh can be frustrating lol
