My Nile monitor did this when he was on his leash, and they do this when small around 2’ to 3’ but stop when about 3 ‘ , and normal when looking for predators and sometimes looking for potential food around tall grass,have seen Australia monitors do same, (Merrimack )stopped during this when he was about 3’3” and he was a big 6’3” monitor When full adult and would have to be in the same room has me, and if I went into another part of the house he would start looking for me ,had him since he was a 🐣 hatchling but he was Feisty and a biter about the first year but started settling down, And by the third year he was more like a dog And would watch tv Depending on what I Was watching, and if it didn’t interest him he would lay on the couch and sleep 💤
