I haven't found any other channel that clearly explains all product codings like this one. For riders who take their bikes to the shop and get them serviced, it might be irrelevant. But for those who service or upgrade their own bikes, this information is key to understand princing levels and avoid mixing incompatible parts; it really saves time and headaches. Great job!

I replaced my cheap ass MT200 front brake with the Deore and I'm impressed with the feel, modulation and power it offers. It's been raining last couple of days and the brakes haven't squeaked either. Only thing I don't like is the clamp. Wish it was less bulky or they had an option of a normal lever mount.

I almost made the mistake of upgrading my Deore to XT as well. Other than the extra adjustments on the levers, there's no point. I've heard the best upgrade for it is getting the XT Ice Tech rotors with metallic pads on the Deore calipers. That will make a much bigger performance gain than getting XT calipers
@TheNotoriousMIC
@TheNotoriousMIC 2 жыл бұрын
The rotor won’t make much difference and if avoid ice tech rotors unless you like the looks. The biggest difference is the quality of the materials. The deore lever might look identical to the XT but the XT is made from much stiffer alloy. That’s the reason the cutouts are smaller because the cheap soft metal in deore levers aren’t strong enough to have as big of a cut out. Squeeze a deore lever and you can feel the whole thing flex you can even see it move slightly. Makes the brake feel vague and unresponsive. You don’t know if you’re moving the pistons or flexing the levers. XT and XTR levers are made to a higher standard from much better materials so when you pull the lever, you’re moving the pistons not flexing the lever blades. Gives a way more predictable feel and a better performing brake.

@@LoveMTB I needed more power in the front because I'm usually fully loaded. The heat disapation was important as well as the zero fade that I get from the 4 pistons. I have to say the saint is really rugged and can take a lot of abuse but so can the xt. I do like the on/off feel on the rear and a bit more modulation in the front. If anything I'll continue to use this set-up for awhile. I appreciate the question!

Make sure you use the correct bleed block that covers both of the pistons! Many people are reporting cracking the ceramic. I'm running the SLX 7120s. I don't know if thats what happened to mine because it looks like there is a hole inside the cup where fluid escapes, but it started leaking after I got it filled with oil. You may want to even pre-fill the caliper with oil to reduce the bleed time. I've had to order a MT520 to scavenge for calipers because there are not rebuild options for these and the alternative is a metal knockoff replacement at $25/pr (one large and one small) that have mixed reports. I also ordered the 7120s from BikeINN and neither them or Shimano has responded to my warranty inquiries. I'm not going to hold my breath waiting. I guess I should have gone through my LBS.

Old finned pads in new caliper for sure would have better cooling with that improved airflow. But it came to my mind, that for people prefering metallic, but riding on flatter trails regularly or having very varied trails, wouldn't keeping bit more heat in them pads=and so rotors prevent squeal and lower-cold performance? (I mean running fin-less purposely)

@@LoveMTB well rear always feel worse due to longer hose, but yeah I don't have that proud feeling about my 4pots. Mushy feeling instead 😂 They are stronger for sure though and large organic pads last longer, so less worries about downpours in mountains although I've been lucky with those, so... And I don't feel comfortable spending pretty much even slx 4pot money on brakes. I should spend more on trips to mountains instead of equipment swaps. I'm very guilty of that. Cheaper stuff, but too much fiddling, swapping, little upgrades that are not satisfactory long terms. Constant loophole. 😥

again my friend ,another excellent video. thank you for your efforts and time to present all of this. i also see that the deore has the bleeding valve in another position from the xt brakes. to tell you the truth i consider the deore system much more appropriate than the xt one. that is because that you can clearly see that the bleedidng valve of the deore circulates the fluid better and covering all the calipers capacity than the xt ones which only covers half of the caliper, this surely makes for a less effort bleeding procedure. Again thank you for your videos.

@elenakana5931
@elenakana5931 Жыл бұрын
@@LoveMTB it is easier cause it moves fluid in a straight line thus the fluid moves a little more quick. But the deore offers better overall fluid coverage.it trully circulates the fluid from the left point to the right, but the xt must rely to the sub pressure effect for the one side to really put out the air. Lastly, not everyone gets rid the air into the fluid with a syringe before feeling the brakes. to make the most of the bleeding , the new fluid must be put through the syringe sub pressure effect to get rid the air embedded into it. there are several videos that illustrate it.

honestly, if you want to reduce costs but keep the performance like very nearly the same, i would go for deore m6100. And if you don't mind that little weight difference :)) I have the deores in 4pot and they are awesome!

Your bikes are always so spotlessly clean. Do you ever ride them or just like to tinker on them? There are those who fall into this category believe it or not. I'm not judging...just curious.

Deore lack the modulation of the SLX and up, and they have the traditional loss of modulation when hot that older Shimano brakes are known for. SLX to XTR all have comparable stopping power, but as you get higher in the lineup the lever effort goes down as XT and XTR have more powerful master cylinders. I've ridden the entire lineup from Deore to XTR and Deore is fine for most trail riding, but I would upgrade to SLX or better if you ride park or a lot of steep trails

What's common with all the Servo-Wave Shimano Brakes is the wandering bite point (Deore, SLX, and XT). Still not fixed.

Just got a new bike with MT410's and 180mm front & rear... They feel much softer than my old M445's. Looking for more initial bite and overall power (especially for the front). Would I be better off going to a 203mm in the front, or should I look into a MT420 or MT520? If I go MT520, should I upgrade master cylinder to MT501 as well?

Slx m7120 would be my choice. Checked with my local shimano dealer and he confirmed it’s the same construction as with the xt m8120 except built with different material making a set of slx pair about 60 grams heavier. The other difference is that slx doesn’t hv the freestroke adjustment which in my experience with shimano, doesn’t make much difference. Although it only cost 50 bucks more for the xt.
