I know for myself I have some issues because of my nerve damage in my spine and modulation can be a bit tricky for me. So soon after I had installed Shimano XT trail 2013 two piston set up on my XC hard tail 29er, and certain situations I needed just a little bit more power, I swapped my 160mm rotors for 180mm and is absolutely perfect for me. Alot of people who tried my bike say the brakes are way too strong, but they work perfect for me and actually find I don't need to be holding them as long as other people do in the same sections. So for me , 2 piston with bigger rotors worked perfect instead of dumping my new 2 piston for 4 piston. Now this all happened back in 2013/ 2014 and it's worked all these years, tried and true for me. As much as I want a newer set of 4 piston, I can't justify the cost when mine work so well. Great video, cheers!

I run 4 pots at both ends, but with 203's up front and 180mm dia discs at the back. The real jedi move though is to run with asymmetric pads ie to run with one sintered high performance pad in one side of the caliper, and one soft organic pad in the other side! The soft one works when it's cold and wet and you're XCing, and the hard one when it's hot and you're DHing! Gives a massive wide operating window, and tends not to squeal (because the natural frequency of the pads is different) Swap 'em side to side to even up the wear on the discs.

Certainly is I currently have xt 8020 4 pot on the front with 203mm ice tech pads and disc and a m8000 2 pot xt on the rear with 180mm disc but use organic pads in the rear I find this the best combo for my riding style a bit random I no but I just like the feel of it I can control the rear end under heavy breaking much better.

The main difference between pot brakes is that 4 pot brakes (if you can transfer the braking power) have a bigger "pot area". This is the main difference, if you would have a big two piston brake your braking power would be as strong as a four piston brake only a bit chunkier looking (that's why they use 2 pistons in the most cars) But I agree that enduro and Downhill benefit from four pots, two pots are for xc and trail riding, for hard trailriding and allmountain why not using a four Pot in the front two in the rear.

Switching to Hydraulics (2 piston Sram Level TL) from cables was an absolute quantum leap. Going up to 4 piston Sram Guide R was a noticeable step in power & much more modulation. Worth the investment & stops my fully laden bikepacker very well! Coming from a motorcycle background where three pot monster calipers were the norm, I am blown away by the lightness & feel of 2 pot MTB hydros & it's pocket change by comparison! Oh yeah, & surely you need to do a "how we capture & edit this kind of footage" type of video? Beautifully done!
