Shinedown has the most #1 singles on Billboard rock main stream chart of 40 years, Godsmack 2nd. This song was written from a dream Brent had. The boy showed him things only his mother would recognize. He hoped that she would hear the song & know her son is ok & she needs to let him go and move on. Brent said it in a interview. Love them met the band multiple times just sweetest guys you could every meet.

I didn't even know who Shinedown was until I won 2 tickets from a radio station in early 2000's. I knew none of the songs but I liked them. And it was in a SMALL music hall. I still love their music. For me they are number 3 behind (1)Ozzy (2)Godsmack.

I saw Shinedown at a festival last year and me a grown tatted up men cried the whole way through. Shinedown is such a underated band. They have so many banger songs and their singer is one of the best male rock vocalists out there. I would recommend their cover of Simple man

Shinedown wrote this song following a letter from a fan who spoke of how her son had recently lost his battle to cancer. It is about this child’s battle and how the crow (cancer) chased the butterfly (the boy, still in his youth)

@MikeVengeace1987 is correct. Brent talked about his dream on Rockline back in the late 2000's (2008 or 2009, cant remember exactly which year). I'm sure if you take the time to poke around the internet long enough you could find that interview.

I was about to comment that he was wrong...I personally know shinedown (Zach is a tool and I'm blocked on everything he has Brent and Barry are amazing) but yea it came from a dream...the sons name was Trevor..

Oh man time to start the Shinedown wormhole! Brent is such an underrated vocalist. Some more recent stuff I'd recommend would be Monsters, Enemies, Asking for it, Daylight, Dead Don't Die, Planet Zero. You really can't go wrong with anything. They're so good and they've been killing it for over 20 years now

Yes! Amazing song! I’ve been waiting for you to do some Shinedown! Please do more! Also, check out Smith and Meyers. It’s a side project that Brent Smith and the guitarist Zack Meyers have. Their cover of Unchained Melody is amazing! It was done in one take! Definitely check it out!

Definitely listen to some of their new stuff! I would recommend first State of My Head, then (in no particular order) Monsters, Get Up, Devil, Symptom of Being Human, Daylight, Bully, Unity, Diamond Eyes, What a Shame (if you haven't heard it), Call Me, Black Soul, etc.

I believe the overarching theme is that the Crow represents death/loss and the Butterfly, unrequited life. I LOVE Brent Smith's voice! It's so pure and powerful an it just connects to your soul! I'd recommend anything from Amaryllis...45 and Fly From the Inside off of the first album... hell, pretty much any of their tunes!

Todays media will not allow music like this to be made again. Look at how horrid all music has become in the last 10 years, including all of entertainment for that matter. None of the songs are memorable and 90% sounds like rap mumblings. Rock isn't rock, country isn't country, and pop isn't pop. Its part of the agenda of those that control us I suppose. And to think songs this good were common and coming out every other week back in the mid 2000s.

Dandelions (a children’s book) lost in the summer sky, (a reference of loss) when you and I were getting high as outer space, (a referencing of the pure joy the mother and her son felt when she would read to him) I never thought you’d slip away, and you can do the rest bc it’s ya know, some deep asf, sad shit.
