So legit! I was curious how sparring worked in Judo... but similar to other disciplines, when two respectful, high level practitioners engage there's ebb and flow, give and take, and no one gets injured! Great video!

I don't know which one I should say, is it impressive from Travis to hold his own against a 6th degree black belt complete grappler like Shintaro, or it's impressive from Shintaro to hold his own against a bigger stronger high level olympian medalist like Travis !

Judo is hard work and kudos to all the judoka out there whether your a world class competitor or a judo enthusiast training for self defense and fitness.

It's like wrestling a bear lol. Shintaro put up a hell of a fight especially considering the size difference. He had to work three times harder on everything he was trying to do. Great work, guys!

That was class, two of my favourite judo educators doing what they do best.

This was a very good demonstration of the difference between what could be considered traditional defence orientated judo in Shintaro and sport orientated judo in Travis. Shintaro seemed to use any of the walls and what not around him to better his position or save himself, whilst Travis seemed to care much more about the rules and had much higher stamina. All around a great video between two great judoka.

Great video with awesome skills and attitudes on display. The most interesting thing to me is the focus on and intricacy of the grip fighting. It seems to be about 70% of the battle and only once it is won - for a fleeting moment - is a throw possible. For much of my time as a judo player (recreational level), the emphasis was the other way around. That made it hard in shiai where I'd often feel I had better judo (throws) than my opponent but couldn't get my grips. Interesting.
