At my club this week I did a slow build up, using seoi nagi to ‘French Randori’ (sort of). Ended up progressing to one or two combinations after throw for throw, switching minimally resisting opponents. This was at a club I’ve just started training at and feels a lot less competitive, great way to give you a second to think and not continuously be on the defensive. Back to the competitive randori at the end of the week though. Great sesh on this video too.

This was GREAT! I learned so much about how high-level players move on one another. So good. I couldn't stop watching this.

Great video with awesome skills and attitudes on display. The most interesting thing to me is the focus on and intricacy of the grip fighting. It seems to be about 70% of the battle and only once it is won - for a fleeting moment - is a throw possible. For much of my time as a judo player (recreational level), the emphasis was the other way around. That made it hard in shiai where I'd often feel I had better judo (throws) than my opponent but couldn't get my grips. Interesting.
