@mediocrecontent24492 жыл бұрын
Fun fact! To lighten the mood of this song, you can just imagine Major Tom is re-entering the atmosphere and this is an early test flight into space. Radio broadcasts cut out during re-entry of the planet's atmosphere. Plasma also appears whilst re-entry, so this could be why Major Tom thinks he's going to die. Or he might just boil alive idk. "Across the stratosphere a final message" means the message was transmitted in the stratosphere, however prior to this it mentions they are in orbit, meaning he's got to be re-entering the Earth's atmosphere. He's even so confident about coming home, where else would he be going?

I just saw Katherine Johnson just passed away at 101. She was depicted in the movie “Hidden Figures”. She was a “human computer” who confirmed launch trajectories who even the Astronauts trusts more then the new mechanical computers. Her math and calculations are the basis of launches today. She never physically left the earth, but her spirit soars with every launch today. RIP Katherine Johnson. You are now truly at home now in the stars.

Control is not convinced But the computer has the evidence No need to abort The countdown starts Watching in a trance, the crew is certain Nothing left to chance, all is working Trying to relax, up in the capsule "Send me up a drink", jokes Major Tom The count goes on (chorus) Second stage is cut, we're now in orbit Stabilizers up, running perfect Starting to collect, requested data What will it effect, when all is done Thinks Major Tom Back at ground control, there is a problem Go to rockets full, not responding Hello Major Tom, are you receiving Turn the thrusters on, we're standing by There's no reply (chorus) Across the stratosphere A final message, "Give my wife my love" Then nothing more Far beneath the ship, the world is mourning They don't realize, he's alive No one understands but Major Tom sees Now the light commands, this is my home I'm coming home (chorus)

If anyone is a video game fan and has played Metal Gear Solid 3. The main game designer is a huge David Bowie fan, so when The Fury kills himself after losing to you. He says "I'm coming home" before smashing himself into the ceiling.

+Moofinman Major Tom was created by David Bowie. The song Major Tom was Peter Schilling. I'm just saying Major Tom the character was created by Bowie.

This song was called the sequel to "Space Oddity" when Peter Schilling originally sang it in the 80's.

Loved this song when I heard it as a kid. When I actually read the lyrics, I actually realized what it was about... the emotion behind this really sticks to me. I never picked up on how morbid the song is.
@jewel798 жыл бұрын
+Durbs012 In the original language (German) it"s even more "morbid". The English lyrics are tame compared to it. For example the final words by Major Tom in it are "I'm starting feeling cold..." (meaning he's just dieing) No word of "Coming home" whatsoever...

One of the first cover/remixes that sounds proper. Can't beat the original, but this one comes very close. Nice job!
