Nice vid! some other things I do is check what cannon they have before starting combat and if the side facing me is long range, ill try closing until i'm within their minimum distance and then target their sails so they cant pivot anymore and are stuck at ineffective range. Also I'll point the nose at the target and brace when they shell me to make myself a small target. takes awhile but on the bigger ships sometimes it helps.

Deadfire is that game that surprised us for being a Pirate / Privateer Game. And I welcome it with open arms - cuz I'd been wishing for more pirate games after playing Sid Meier's Pirate, Port Royale, and Assassin Creed 4:Black Flag.

If you choose to board the ship instead of sinking it, it's silly that you can't put someone in charge of it and commandeer 2 ships

It would be awesome to have command of your own fleet. Or at least take over a ship that is an ipgrade to your own instead of paying out the nose for a new one.

What are the best ways to make money in this game short of console-ing up myself a wealthy inheritance? lol EDIT: Just keep playing. Once exceptional gear starts dropping, cash flow is no longer an issue

My ship tactic: small and quick with front cannons, grape em as you advance then board:D

Just finished my first play of POE1 and imported my save to POE2. I was feeling a tad burnt out by the end of POE1, but this is such a good sequel! Totally reinvigorated! POE2 pirate battles take me back to Al-Qadim: Genies Curse. You get your own ship operated by a cursed genie and get raided sometimes. Anyway, this game is like 30 years coming for me

I really enjoyed both of them as well. I really liked how you could import your character from the first one. If you are looking for another good RPG I have been enjoying Pathfinders: Wrath of the Righteous and am really excited about Baldurs Gate 3 this year

Thanks for this, not done ship combat yet. However I was surprised that the range didn't change when you were doing all the turns & Jibes. Halting and turning on the spot etc. Strange.

That would have been more realistic but maybe it was too hard to do in a turn based strategy combat like they made for the ship combat.

Quick question.. why wouldent you use grapeshot when you know they are 5/11 crew ? instead he use cannonballs vs 60/60 hull ? crew is allready under 50%, were hull is at 100%??

dude if you are having fun with Pillars of Eternity 2 then I highly recommend you pick up Baldurs Gate 3. Best RPG ever

I grew up in the 1000 islands, yes home of the salad dressing. Most learn to sail in school. When games miss use sailing terms it's like nails on a chalkboard. A jibe isn't a U-turn. It's when the back of the boat crosses the direction of the wind causing the booms to change positions very, very fast. A tac is when the front of the ship crosses the direction of the wind. Also "full sail" and "half sail" don't have anything to do with speed. It's has to do with how close to the direction of the wind you are. The closer the front of the boat is to the direction of the wind the tighter and more towards the center of the boat the sails need to be to get the most speed. If your going directly with the wind then untie all the lines and let your sails go for the most speed. Tldr:. RERRRRREEEEWEEEEEEEE

I just got into my first naval battle where I didn't board from the start and the ship was a huge one. I am level 4 and the captain of the enemy ship was level 15. I guess it goes without saying that my entire crew along with my ship got sent to Davey Jones' locker... Dude smoked my boots I only landed a few hits before being sent to the abyss

FYI you can just push the 2 key instead of trying to use the mouse, it would be much faster when trying to attack something fast like that. Seriously those numbers for chat options are there for a reason.

Also you can spacebar to pause when in range, then click attack or hit 2.

just buy double bronzers, and annihilate them

Yeah. When I bought the Junk I loaded it with 10 double bronzers and it was a quick fight.

Hey, thanks for taking the time to do this. You did a good job and it's appreciated, but the problem is your HORRIBLE subject. This battle mechanic is tedious/BORING beyond belief. I didn't buy a text adventure for my $59 and I certainly didn't get a GTX 1080ti for this kind of stuff. I think this is my last Obsidian game. When you first started you said "Ship combat" but it sounded a bit like "Sh*t combat", which would've been more appropriate, lol.

Well I am in agreement with you about the ship combat. I always close combat and combat on the deck with my party. I just made this video because I saw many people on the forums asking how to do the ship combat. I hope you are liking the rest of the game besides the text based combat scenarios. In about 9 days State of Decay 2 drops and I will be making lots of videos for that. I also have a GTX 1080ti and will making full use of it with that game.
