Ship engine room of a twin engine ultra hightech hybrid RoRo cargo ship - This is extreme!!
This high end RoRo ship has the capability of being in port with only battery power. It has a 5 MW battery package, and a roof covered with solar panels. The amount of systems in this ships engine department is impressive.
A big thank you to the welcoming and helpful crew of the ship. You are all doing a great job!!

Most impressive video! One wonders, is the crew on lunch, as they are not seen :) Damn, that's some very small charge air vessels :) Please add comments, for example by text, thereby walking us through the compartments. I was impressed by the size of the control room, and the level of detail in the battery room.

Bunker fuel mains. Pitch black and thick as molasses, “bunker” fuel is made from the dregs of the refining process. It's also loaded with sulfur - the chemical that, when burned, produces noxious gases and fine particles that can harm human health and the environment, especially along highly trafficked areas. Has to be heated to flow and inject it.

Yes you are on to something there. The bunker fuel is something called Heavy Fuel Oil (HFO). It contains up to 3,5 percent sulphur. They usually heat this to 80-110 degrees C, to become thin enough to atomize through injection nozzles in to the cylinder. It produces the gas Sulpurdioxide (SO2) when burned. This is why there are regulations that forces ships to install exhaust gas scrubbers. This captures and neutralize the SO2, to protect the airquality. And yes, it is a part of the refinery process, so if you want diesel and gasoline, you will also get HFO amongst other substances. If this in turn is not used as shipfuel, it will be sold to countries without pollution regulations, and burned in powerplants and unpurified shipengines there. The NOx gases from ships, is also starting to be regulated. So they are installing huge SCR systems that use urea (adblu), similar to the systems on dieseltrucks. Funfact: urea is artifically produced pig urine.
