@@basd2615 I'm a Stucky shipper as well, But i think Bucky's arc has been that he needs to move on where as Steve's has been he needs to do what he needs to do and then live the life he deserves, wether we like it or not the films have been leading to this for a long time. Plus Bucky has to figure out who he is outside of Steve which will likely be what his shows about.

SPOILER - I was never a Stucky shipper, but the ending did seem forced. It broke the time travel rules they set up so it was paradoxes all over the place. It was a clear way to say "This character is retired now and no sneaky cameos! Chris Evans contract is over." Clearly both Iron Man and Captain America had to retire or die - end of an era and everything - but whilst Iron Man had me crying this just seemed tacked on.

If time travel works as they explained it in the movie, Steve would have created an alternate timeline in which he is Peggy’s husband. While the original timeline with her original husband and children still exists. But that would make it impossible for Steve to show up as an old man in this original timeline, unless he traveled thru the quantum realm again. So basically they broke their own rules.

I'm a Stucky shipper but I never expected them to go there. Let's face it Cap is way too prominent to make the first LGBT character in the MCU. But the Steve ending makes no sense. Steve is all about sacrificing everything for the greater good. His whole arc is about learning to live in the future and then about saving Bucky. And the first chance he gets he leaves him behind? Because he saw Peggy once? I thought the storyline of "You can have found love and lost it and you can move on." was much more substantial. Also as I understand it old!Steve lived out a different timeline with Peggy where she never met her husband and instead married Steve. But apparently Steve kept a low profile since the original Steve was still frozen and had been Captain America before that. So he saw injustice and he knew Bucky was a captive and tortured and did nothing about it because oh that's just alternate timeline Bucky and alternate timeline people I could save. That's not Cap to me. That's not the "I could do this all day" guy who always gets back up. While Steve deserves retirement after all he has been through I don't think this was the right way. And leaving not just Bucky behind but also Sam and his other friends just doesn't seem like him. Steve barely reacted to Bucky getting unsnapped in Endgame and we got next to nothing in Infinity War. Hell Bucky even had to stand five feet away while Steve talked to Sam so it wouldn't be too gay. Of course Sam deserves that talk and deserves to get the shield but Bucky had nothing to say? You could argue Bucky knew what Steve would do because of their goodbye scene but that doesn't change the fact that it's #NotmySteve.

In my knowledge, the serum really only served to make Steve a supersoldier, not to prevent him from aging. Consider the fact that he was frozen in ice for 70ish years--which prevented him from aging. My thoughts are that the serum allowed Steve to survive that time trapped in ice, though after that, he aged pretty normally--though the serum could possibly slow down this process (the old Steve in Endgame still looked pretty energetic/healthy for his age).
@dmpbabe
@dmpbabe 3 жыл бұрын
The serum did slow aging. It would have to. The aging process is basically the breaking or wearing down of your body and systems. The serum would repair them before the could cause visible aging. Think wolverine. He still aged just really really slowly. That’s my understanding anyway.

Like he literally had a family with the avengers and still decides to just go back in time with a girl he knew whomst btw had moved on, had shown to have her own life and family and husband which she herself told him to move on and live his life in the present era... like peggy isnt a prize for steve, if steggy was suppose to be endgame from the beginning then why did the russos even bother with introducing sharon carter in civil war???? Steve just kisses sharon then goes back and marries her aunt???.. like bro... thats just pathetic its just girl, move on. I feel bad for bucky and sharon tbh.. steve really acted like he didn’t give a fuck about either of them and sharon isn’t acknowledged whatsoever despite the fact there were first drafts of endgame that showed sharon and steve living together in an apartment, which makes the ending just gross.... Ok, I don't care, I have OPINIONS and need to share them somewhere. 1) Stucky was never going to be canon and I think most of us are adult enough to admit that. HOWEVER what the movie did in general felt as if it would ignore everything we know about Steve, Bucky and Peggy. - Did they keep Steve and Bucky apart? Totally. - Steve ending up with Peggy. Would have been nice, IF that was where they had been going since 2011. It is not. They had a movie together where they have some flirting going on (a lot less than other superhero love stories, if you ask me, but shipping googles, don't ask me). After that, Peggy got an entire season about mourning Steve and slowly accepting his death, and a second where she started dating again, and Steve two plus movies where his motivation was mostly "OMG, Bucky is alive" and "I need to protect Bucky". THEY BOTH MOVED ON. This felt like a last minute "let's do something that gets Steve out of the way and will count as a happy ending". - Steve living in the past. Ok, ok, ok, this is a BIG one for me. As many others have pointed out, he is now in a time where he full well knows Bucky is being held prisoner and tortured, and it's either letting it happen or key points in history will change. He is also watching SHIELD being founded and recruiting former HYDRA agents, as consequence of which PEOPLE WILL DIE, and Steve knows that, because HE'S BEEN THERE. Is he just going to sit there and let it happen?? Also, if we are already at it: Imagine the following scenario. It is the early 50s and Steve Rogers has just returned from the future (2023, right?) to spend the rest of his days with the love of his life, Peggy. Segregation is still a thing. Residential schools are still a thing. Women don't have the same rights as men. Queer people don't have any rights, period. Disabled and mentally ill people are being constantly mistreated, part out of ableism and part out of genuine ignorance in the medical field. The US is in cold war with the Soviet Union, and both sides do stuff that are not ok, and also highly classified. Steve, having lived in the future knows about them because it's history. Should I continue? We normal people would maybe play the well-behaved time traveller and sit around waiting for history to happen, BUT NOT STEVE ROGERS. He is famous, and very influential because of his status as Captain America, and he has got a significantly smaller tolerance for bullsh*t than the other people in his time, because he has seen a world that is more accepting. He is going to try to fight everything at once. This is going to be chaos. - Finally, and I haven't seen this pointed out yet, but HOWARD. Steve just returned to a time when Howard Stark was still the Howard Stark we know from The First Avenger and Agent Carter. A little weird and egocentric and visibly ND, but all in all a nice guy. I don't even know where to start with how much chaos this is going to cause. The memory of Steve Rogers has been a driving force behind Howard's entire life. Having him actually BE there will 1) prevent him from idolising him, and 2) Steve will be able to say little things to him like "Howard, you really have got a nice son there, maybe you could spend some more time with him?". Will Tony without his abusive childhood still become Iron Man? I think so, yes. Will it still completely change who he is as a person? Also yes...? Don't even mention that Steve perfectly knows how Howard and his wife are going to die, namely assassinated by Bucky, because... (Also, remember Agent Carter season 1 when Howard openly told Peggy tat he'd been in love with Steve? Yeah, that is going to be a fun discussion when they announce their engagement. Seriously, someone should write it.) Conclusion: While I understand how the idea of Steve returning to Peggy might have sounded good on paper, the writers just didn't think it through and as a consequence, it feels rushed and as if they'd just butchered not only one, but at least three or four of our beloved characters and their story arcs. 2) My opinion about Endgame was that it was nice. But definitely not good or something I'd want to rewatch anytime soon. - It bit off more than it can chew. One movie to close off six character arcs is not enough by far. They should have made at least three. One for Steve and Tony, one for Clint and Natasha, and one for Bruce and Thor. -> Tony's character arc was the one I was almost completely happy with. Minus the Pepper wearing the suit bit, which I feel should have been a big emotional moment but instead was just kind of there and came a little out of nowhere. Steve, see above, would have needed either a different ending or a whole lot more thought in it. -> Clint becoming a pretty terrible serial killer was just somehow never dealt with?? Because THAT? That would have needed a complete movie to make sense and to give him time to actually redeem himself. Natasha... Redemption equals death. I'm not that big of a fan of that trope, especially because she already seemed to have redeemed herself at that point? She didn't need to die? Also, fine, I get why it could make sense, but killing off the one female protagonist these movies had for quite some time feels really, really... It makes me feel cheated. Given more time, they could have developed the whole arc better. ->Bruce making peace with the Hulk IS exactly what should have happened to him. HOWEVER, it all happened in that short moment when the screen was black and read "five years later". That is... Not what I'd call good character development. Again, this would have needed TIME. Give him a movie. Combine his story with that of Thor. Could have been great. -> Thor. This is the one that makes me just ANGRY, so I'm giving it it's own bullet point. Look, what happened to him completely makes sense. It also feels as if the movie hadn't taken him and his pain seriously. Like that scene in his cabin, that was totally played for laughs, and after that, they just didn't give him enough time. And I get it, there WAS NO TIME. There was just too much going on. But people, alcoholism and PTSD are SERIOUS subjects, and if you want them there, you need to commit to write them properly. Marvel can do that, as they have proven with their Demon In A Bottle storyline, Iron Man 3 or The Incredible Hulk episode Alice In Discoland. But these are all separate stories that revolve around these themes. There is no way someone could manage a nuanced and sensitive representation in an ensemble movie that also juggles at least eight other characters and aims to close off eleven years worth of movies. There is just not enough time. So what they should have done instead: Either make Endgame three movies, and give Thor and Bruce one where they can support each other while dealing with his trauma and the Hulk, or just leave out the entire arc. Thor's arc was finished in Thor: Ragnarok. He became king, learned to accept that his father had done many bad things and made peace with Loki. They should have left it there and only used him to drive the action forward instead of trying to have him evolve in any direction. (In this version, the massacre at the beginning of Infinity War shouldn't have happened. Give them some more time to arrive on Earth, and than call Thor and Bruce away to fight Thanos while Loki is benched because the Asgardians need an acting king. Thor behaves more or less the way he did in Ragnarok, goes on his quest to get the axe, and Endgame is just plain different.) - While I do enjoy a good "everything is bad AU", Endgame didn't make it work. Probably because they messed up the characters part. - Nice call backs, though. Especially the one when they redid the Star Lord dancing in the cave scene, and than cut to Rhodey and Nebula watching him looking like a complete idiot. :D I really liked that one. - Good action scenes. The end fight when all the dusted heroes came out of the portal and they were these dark silhouettes with a bright light behind their backs! Wheeeeeeeeeeee!!! Conclusion: Nice movie. Not a fan. Only half achieved what it set out to do. 3) Are you planning on doing a pure Marvel fanfic rec video?

While I do ship stucky, that is not my main issue with the ending. Firstly Steve’s personal story since the Avengers has been mainly about learning to move on from the past. He has spent 10 years creating connections to people in the present so it would have made more sense for the culmination of his arc to realize that he is no longer a man out of time and to continue to “get a life” in honor of Natasha, not try to reclaim some past fantasy. He does deserve rest, but that rest does not need to be in the past. Secondly, it feels kid of gross for Steve to get with this version of Peggy. He has witnessed HIS Peggy die of old age. He has reconnected with her and knows she has lived a full and happy life. I don’t think Steve would feel comfortable with to an extent replacing her with a young alternate version. Third, I don’t think Steve would be comfortable living in this alternate past without coming out of retirement again and changing this timeline’s future by saving Bucky before he kills Howard and Maria, and him interacting with another identical version of them, especially Bucky strikes me as extremely weird when they are not actually the version of them he knows. His Bucky will still be in another world, and I don’t see how anyone would be comfortable with just being around your best friend’s clone instead of them. I think it would have been nice if he had gone to the seventies, had his dance with Peggy and contemplate staying before realizing that they both have moved on.

While I am a Stucky shipper, I have no problem when the source material goes differently. HOWEVER. I do have a problem with how they did the whole thing: 1. The whole concept of Steve staying in the past is like taken from a fanfic and I'm not sure if that's the best trope for this kind of movie 2. The only real plot hole that this movie has is this exact scene or more specifically - Old Man Steve. Through the whole movie, they explained several times how time travel works in this universe and that was great. Old Man Steve takes their whole explanation and rules and throws it into the garbage can. So they basically contradicted world building rules for a Steggy scene. And I don't like it. 3. Yes, it was incredibly shitty of Steve to leave Bucky like that. We know from previous movies that he feels kinda alienated because there's no one he can relate to. Introduce Bucky - who is "fixed" now and shares the same memories and all. Even if we exclude the romance and treat it purely as friendship, that's still a shitty thing to do to your best friend. Now Bucky will have to watch Steve slowly die, just like Steve watched Peggy die. I need my fix-its.

@@grimtheghastly8878 He'd actually be 106, because we have a 5 year fast forward in the MCU. And yeah, if the Russos broke their own time travel rules and Steve got old in the main timeline, then he'd be around 106. The fact that he's alive by this age can be explained through the super soldier serum. But if Steve got old in an alertane timeline, then he could've returned at any moment/any age. If he did, how he appeared on the bench and not on the platform - that's the plothole.

Wow, I'm early! But yeah, Endgame with Stucky was...... not good. It was bad and I hate it. I fully understand them maybe being uncomfortable with the ship, the shippers, and the fanon. It's their right, they're in charge of all this shit. However, I still feel like what they did was entirely wrong. It seems Bucky got entirely sidelined during the whole fucking movie while Steve was doing what he needed to do. It was like they were barely friends at all, which is hilarious considering all the previous movies! Before Steve goes off to live in the past with Peggy and says his goodbyes, a Tumblr User (who I forgot their username) explained that him and Steve probably had conversations about Steve's plans off-screen and already talked about it. But is that really what you should be doing? Having important, life-changing conversations with who is SUPPOSED to be your lifelong friend OFF-SCREEN? Nah, that's a stupid decision mate I am sorry! Peggy also got me mad. I believe the last thing she wanted was to just be Steve's wife (which ended up happening in Endgame). She was a strong, independent woman who founded S.H.I.E.L.D and moved on with her life after Steve "died". It's like what she said to him in The Winter Soldier. She lived her life, she moved on, she was happy. Her only regret was that Steve didn't get to live HIS life. That was the point, to MOVE on! So, for Steven to make such a SELFISH decision goes against his character and his arc! It's a complete 180 and I'm not here for it. This isn't what Peggy would have wanted, and fuck, Steve wouldn't have done this either. Sorry for getting so heated but I'm a sucker for character arcs due to being taught by Homestuck, and it's just.... No. You're supposed to go THROUGH an arc to get better, not to go back. If you're just going to go back to your awful ways, what was the point of the arc anyway?

After Winter Soldier, Bucky is the only love interest that made sense for Captain America, but because they're both men, homophobia destroyed their century long love story. I'm also never going to forgive the writers because they're the ones who defined Steve and Bucky's relationship to be that of soulmates. For almost a decade, they've had the deepest and most comprehensive dynamic out of any dynamic in the MCU until Endgame completely disrespected it. A shame really.

I think the ending was very inconsistent with Steves character arc. I mean, aside from the fact that Peggy had a family, a husband and basically got over Steve, all of the Captain America movies are very Bucky centric. Bucky is the turning point for Steve, the guy, for with he broke with Tony and the Avengers. Also, the whole time-travel/living in the past thing melted my brain. It just doesn't make any sense.

1: “A shift in tone to deter shipping.” Nah. Homophobia from Disney, producers & folks at the top, is a much more likely explanation. 2: I didn’t expect to see Steve & Bucky kissing, but they’ve always appeared in the film as very physical; arm around shoulders, hugging an awful lot etc. In Endgame, Bucky may as well have not been there. All Steve & Bucky’s history and closeness was gone. It felt like a massive lack of respect of the characters, whether they’re seen as brothers or more. 3: Somewhat off-topic, but something I’ve seen a few people mention, and which made me feel awful watching Endgame was how they played Thor’s weight gain for laughs, even though that and his drinking was down to PTSD and grief. The other characters accept a talking raccoon, but not a fat man. The MCU has always felt more progressive than most - so playground insults and fat suits made this hurtful to me. Yes I’m fat, but I’m also into respecting people regardless of their physical traits.

As a Stucky Shipper, I didn’t like Cap’s Ending. Let me make something clear I didn’t think they would make it Canon (although I had Hope) But I thought that they would at least keep their Friendship, that made People ship them. Instead in this Movie it felt like they replaced Peggy with Bucky, making her the most important Person in Steve’s Life. Like in that scene with that « gay Cameo » (don’t get me started on that). Everyone else was talking about People they lost to the Snap, but Steve brought up Peggy like it wasn’t 70+ years ago. To me Peggy and Steve had a Perfect Conclusion in the last two Cap Movies. Peggy and Steve got to See each other again, we saw that Peggy had a good Life and that Steve was happy for her. I never shipped Steggy, but I didn’t mind them in CATFA. I know that they could of created an alternative Timeline, but for me it doesn’t change that much in my Mind. That Ending just didn’t make Sense: - it erases Bucky,s importance and Relationship with/to Steve - A lot of Quotes and storylines from the previous Movies and Comics contradict that Ending - It makes the Steve/Sharon thing more akward - Peggy is reduced to a love interest, the Life that sehe lived and chose to is being ignored - it reinvents Steve’s Character Anyway I just didn’t like and understand that Ending. P.S: Sorry for my english it’s not my native Language

I really enjoyed endgame, but Steve's conclusion was my one gripe with the film. I liked Steve getting to just experience life, but I didn't love that he achieved that by going back to the past, rather than getting to live out the life he's made for himself in the present (also they did Bucky hella dirty). I guess I feel that Steve got an ending he deserved, but in the process everyone else got short-changed.

Don't get me wrong, while Stucky is my OTP, I don't mind Steggy at all. That being said: 1 - I hate how this movie reduced Peggy to a prize to be won/a reward. She got NO lines in the movie. Even taking into account Steve having created an alternate reality by going back in time, he still diverged her timeline where she moved on, grew out of Steve's shadow, and became a successful, independent person. The entire arc of Agent Carter season 1 was her proving she wasn't just "Steve's girl" - but capable. She moved on. 2 - The narrative beat between Peggy and Steve in CATWS was Peggy telling Steve to move on. It was Steve finding a new family in the future. All of that gets abandoned in Endgame where Steve abandons his friends, a world who might need the guidance from someone who lived through a time-skip, and people like Wanda and of COURSE Bucky who need him now more than ever. 3 - I was never expecting Stucky to be canon, but that being said, Steve abandoning Bucky to go live his life SEPARATE from him - 70 years worth of it - is crushing. What ever happened to "Till the End of the Line"? Even if you don't ship it, Steve & Bucky were _best friends_ and the only two men out of time, shared life experiences. I can't believe Steve would leave him like that. This is the point that hurts me the most - and seems so contrary to their characters. Steve's narrative arc was about finding his place and moving forward - being strong and doing the right thing no matter what. This movie is placing biological family and having kids/getting the girl above found family - effectively saying lifelong friendship doesn't matter in the face of settling down and the 50s style nuclear family. 4- I know they needed a write-out for Chris Evans, but there were a multitude of ways they could have done that WITHOUT breaking his character. (Deseruming him maybe in the final battle?) 5 - Even if he goes back in time and rescues Bucky from Hydra, that would be a different Bucky. (And in theory, a different Steve also exists in that timeline that may get rescued from the ice. So ... what? Steve just went back and stole Peggy from that universe's Steve? Also shitty.

@mediumdrip5
@mediumdrip5 5 жыл бұрын
Okay i'm probably going to repeat what other people have said (and waay more eloquently than i could ever) but i need to vent so forgive me. 1. I get it, steve will always love peggy, that's very nice and cute, but she actively told him to get over her and move on with his life. He had i don't know how many years (but a lot, ever since peggy's death we'll say) to mourn her and them and the relationship they never got to have. I understand why he'd initially want to have a chance at that life, but it completely undermines her character and what she has done since his 'death' onwards. She remarried and had kids and even grandkids and all that just goes away because they wanted Steve to have his "perfect ending". 2. While we're on the subject of that cuestionable decision, let's talk about Bucky. I wanna get this out of the way: i do ship stucky, but i was never under the illusion that they were going to make it canon, that was just not gonna to happen and it's okay. But to go from that to erasing/sidelining their entire friendship for a "picture perfect ending" for Steve is a really low blow. Not only was Bucky pretty much irrelevant the whole movie (something we can't blame Steve for, they had only so much time to show a lot of characters. Though i'd argue that it would have been better if they just left out the first attempt to get the stones bc it was pure garbaggio but that's not relevant now) but the only time he does appear and could have a significant conversation, he is left behind in a future he barely understand with people he doesn't really know and not anyone who he can relate to. They took his only friend and anchor and left him alone. If steve going back and marrying peggy doesn't create any problems for their timeline whatsoever (which, as many people pointed out, would be wrong because as steve just appears there on the log, it's apparent that he went back to the main timeline and not an alternative one but whatever), then why would he not take Buck with him? Does he not deserve a happy ending and a chance to re do his life without any brainwashing and torture? He has literally nothing left in the future for him. Yeah he's kind of friends (i'd say acquaintances at best) with sam, and he must have formed some kind of relationship with the wakandans (although as he lived alone on a goat farm i really doubt it's strength). But for the most part he is all alone in a future he has no reason to be in, not when he can simply go back like his best friend and have the life he deserves. Are you honestly going to tell me that Steve Rogers, who started a civil war for this man, would just leave him behind like that? Yes their goodbye was very nice and yes Bucky probably knew Steve was not coming back, but why not take bucky with him? It makes no sense. (Unless of course you are Marvel and want a new series to keep milking the money-cow that is Bucky Barnes because you know not a lot of people would watch a series with only Falcon on it although they should because he is an amazing character and i love Sam Wilson so so so much but more on that later) 3. The shield. I don't know why people complain that he gave it to Sam. He's literally the perfect choice. I don't think Bucky should have gotten it instead, although i do wish that Steve had said something along the lines of "now you have another stubborn asshole to worry about". Bucky had already said that he didn't follow Captain America to the jaws of Death, it was a sick kid from Brooklyn who was to dumb to stand down form a fight. So why should he follow Sam? they're not really friends after all, just have a best friend in common. I don't think however that Marvel is going to let him retire and just chill for the rest of his life, because as i said earlier, they are greedy af. They had to go and put his name in the title of the new series (and not even his, but that of the brainwashed assassin they made him be against his will and that only Steve could break him out of). I do love the dynamics between Sam and Bucky, i think Anthony Mackie and Seb Stan have an incredible chemistry and i'm not gonna complain about more sambucky content. I do however dislike how it came to be. I honestly thought the only way it was going to happen was that Steve was going to die and then they'd help each other through the grief and decide to honor him taking up the shield but no, they had to fuck it up. I've rambled on for long enough, so tldr: i did not like the ending at all, it was inconsistent with the story they've been telling for years and their own explanations of time travel. They fucked everyone over and i'm supposed to be happy bc steve finally got his dance with peggy? No way. I expected more from them.

I'm not a Stucky shipper by any stretch of the imagination, but I just generally didn't like Steve Rogers'...epilogue I guess I could call it? While him going back and living a life with Peggy initially seems like a nice concept, the timeline implications are enormous; he would have had to just let everything play out as it should, considering he turned up in the main timeline, and I feel like that inactivity is so unreasonable to expect from him. It also seems really disrespectful to Peggy herself, and her life as it should have been without his interference. It wasn't like she spent the rest of her life after he crashed that plane alone, never to love again - she moved on, had a family, children, iirc grandchildren, a nice life by all accounts. And now none of that will have happened. I just......ugh. Did not like.

I think it's very unfair how people would have been 100% ok with Sam Wilson not getting a goodbye with Steve Rogers. I understand that Steve/Bucky is an OTP for many people but Sam deserves some love for being such a loyal friend for all those years. Sam was someone who understood what it was like to come back from war, and took Steve and Natasha in when people were actively coming after them. He also offered to help Steve find Bucky and stayed by his bedside when Steve was hurt. In Age of Ultron even in his minor scene in the beginning he was still looking for Bucky. In Civil War it is easy to obsess over the fact that Steve threw away his country for Bucky but did Sam not also throw away his country for Steve. Sam supported Steve during Peggy's funeral and even when Steve gave him an out Sam stayed by his side. Sam became a wanted criminal for years! Sam had two iconic scenes in Endgame the "on your left" call back and the passing of the shield and I think it is really unfair that people are complaining about Endgame downplaying Bucky/ Steve while simultaneously downplaying the friendship between Sam and Steve. I'm proud to call myself a Stucky shipper, even through I'm not that deep in the fandom anymore. I started with the MCU because my Friends made me watch Winter soldier and I was immediately hooked on Stucky, because through everything the found each other again. After watching The first avenger I also liked Steggy so the end of endgame wasn't that much of a disappointment for me (Peggy is the only woman for Steve). I'm glad he got the dance they both deserved, but even my friends (a Stony shipper and someone not in any fandom) couldn't make sense of Steve's arc and that's saying a lot. I get why people in the fandom see the ending as forced heteronormativity, because through 3 movies Steve fought only for one person and that was Bucky, so him leaving the one person who has everything he was looking for since he woke up, who could give him stability and share memories with, is pretty dumb. The movie was really good, but the stucky relationship came short again.

I feel like they just forgot that Chris Evans' contract is ending and had to figure out a quick way to remove him from the series. It is not the feeling i should have when watching a movie that ends an era like this, especially with a character this important. They also just dismissed the strong friendship that Bucky and Steve had. Their friendship was a huge thing, childhood best friends who got torn apart but who found eachother again. It was beautiful really, but it got completely dismissed like they were just found book club buds, not borderline brothers who went through war together.

Peggy didn't die in the snap, and this fight is not about bringing her back. So why looking at her photo for motivation? He hasn't done it since he met old Peggy and moved on. So in my headcanon Steve was looking at Bucky's photo at that moment. In fact I feel Marvel has been uncomfortable with the Stucky ship since Civil War. While I adored Endgame Steve's ending felt off to me. The lack of a moment between Steve and Bucky was jarring. Maybe I got my hopes up but they didn't even talk. I wasn't expecting cannon Stucky but a single conversation between the two would have been nice to see on screen. But I'm not too mad at Endgame for this. There are dozens of fix-its out there exploring the dynamics unaddressed in the film and with all the shipping fodder provided (all of the Stony moments were appreciated) there's a lot I'm excited to see worked through in the fandom.

Emotions aside it makes sense as to why they ended the Steve Rogers Captain America arc this way. Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. did not want to renew their contract and while I think that it was always the intention to kill off Iron Man they could not do the same with Captain America because they needed to pass on the shield. Steve/ Bucky could have not been Endgame because that would have completely demolished Team Cap. Black Widow is dead and if Steve and Bucky retired off to some farm that would have left Sam Wilson Captain America all alone (Also it would mean that Sebastian Stan/Bucky would technically be written off as well). Having a Falcon and the Winter Soldier tv Spin off is actually quite smart in a business stand point because while people who look at their interviews know that Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan has chemistry they never had the chance to show it off. It also gives them the chance to see if they could survive a solo movie. As to Falcon getting the shield instead of Winter Soldier in the MCU why would you want someone as controversial as a former brainwashed assassin to take the mantel. They even framed the scene so that Bucky is the one to tell Sam to talk to Steve first and when Sam looks at Bucky before accepting the shield Bucky nods to say 'Yes it's yours' but people are still complaining. One moment people comment that Bucky needs a rest but when Sam is given the shield they are up in arms declaring that Bucky deserves the shield more Thank you for listening to Part 2 of my Ted Talk

Bucky does take up the mantle at some point in the comics. I think it might be interesting to see it down the line when he is better (because I don't think he's completely cured in AIW) but we've got places to go with his character once brainwashing is gone

They did Bucky so dirty. He barely had any lines or screentime, and now his character is left to fend for himself in a world where he barely knows anyone, a world that would hate him if they knew what he did, and a world that he doesn't know how to really live in. I'm a Stucky shipper, but it's not like I thought they were going to declare their undying love for each other in Endgame. I knew it wasn't going to happen and I was fine with that. _HOWEVER_ That ending was complete bullshit. They barely talked to each other throughout the whole movie, Steve had way more of a relatioship with Sam, which makes no sense especially now that Bucky has all of his memories back, and it just went against everything that we know and were showed about their characters. And don't even get me started on what staying in the past meant for Steve's character arc, because that's a regression if I ever saw one. Instead of him working on how to move on from the past and learning to adapt to the future like he did throughout his arc, they show his inability to "get a life" in the new world, with his new friends and what he himself defined his new family. Which also strips his relationships with all the other characters of all their value. I am not happy, no sir.

I'm definitely a stucky shipper, but I feel like my expectations were pretty realistic. I like Infinity War, obviously I would have liked more Bucky, but it made sense that he didn't have a ton of screen time. The hug when they saw each other again was great and it didn't really need to be any more than that. But Endgame... it was just strange to me how abruptly Cap's motivations shifted from saving Bucky in the present to morning his romance with Peggy. I really enjoyed Endgame but Steve's ending just didn't make a lot of sense to me. What did he do with Thor's hammer? What happened to Peggy's family? I guess we can say that her husband is ret-coned to be actually Steve, but how did he marry the director of Shield with no one noticing he was Captain America? Are we now in an alternate timeline? I get what they were trying to do: Steve lost a lot over the years and by the end of Endgame he pretty much just had Falcon and Bucky left and was clearly suffering from pretty bad depression, PTSD, and etc. They were trying to give him a happy ending and obviously it was something he and Bucky had talked about and it would make sense for his best friend to want that for him but... in addition to it over-complicating the timeline (which the MCU had miraculously avoided doing for so long) it all just kinda seems very... "Make America Great Again." I get that Steve grew up in the 40s, but he spent at least decade (including the 5 years during Endgame) in the 21st century. I grew up in the 90s and still have a hard time re-watching comedies from even the early 00s without wincing a bit at the casual racism and homophobia. But I'm supposed to believe that Steve I-hate-bullies Rogers is just gonna go back to the 50s and lives in his middle-class suburban bubble, pretending the Civil Rights movement isn't going on? Really? I know I'm writing a novel, and I really did like Endgame and I respect the happy ending they were trying to give Steve and it's not anyone's fault that I never really connected to the Steve/Peggy love story, I'm sure there are many people who did. I just felt kinda disappointed, that after so much thought went into the movie, and it was so well done, the big uplifting beat at the very end, the thing that brings it all to a close is... this idealization of a time period when women couldn't take out a loan without a male co-signer and lynch mobs were still a regular thing. GREAT. The straight white guy goes back to a time period that literally ONLY a straight white guy would ever want to go back to.

The shipping aside, they did Steve's and Bucky's friendship dirty. Those are guys who would die for each other, who went to war together (and that creates a bond like no other), declared multiple times that they would be there for one another no matter what, Steve was literally the only one that could snap Bucky out of his brainwashing, he went begging behind enemy lines to save him even when everyone claimed that Bucky was dead and that's the ending to their friendship? Steve leaving to live in the past, coming back as an old man when Bucky is still young and will have to watch Steve slowly die? And then Bucky will be the man out of time just as Steve was before he found him. And Bucky knew Steve will stay in the past because he said he'll miss him even though Steve was supposed to be there for 5 seconds only. They barely interacted for people who are supposed to be best friends, even brothers. That ending rubs me the wrong way.
@deviousclass5499
@deviousclass5499 5 жыл бұрын
It struck me too. Like since Infinity War, their interactions are like Sharon and Steve's ones were minus the love interest part. It drives me crazy because, sure, I ship them ; but I didn't expect them to snog off on camera, just... more than generic lines, 2 seconds hugs et a hand on a shoulder. I would have been fine just with them reasserting their undying friendship for each other or a moment of comradery. Was that too greedy ? The Russo's work on Captain America The Winter Soldier is what cemented my love for those character so I feel quite disapointed here... But I bet the Stony shippers are on could 9. At least some are happy u.u XD

I’m not a huge Stucky shipper (although I totally get it) but the final scene felt off as far as their relationship (friendship or more) goes. Not Cap staying in the past growing old, essentially choosing to leave Bucky... but giving Sam the shield and uniform... and we don’t even really get a nice Cap/Bucky final moment.

I agree with most ppl that Steve going back and living with peggy permanently was not right. Go see her yes but he can't stay. I'm pretty sure that part of the real reason is because Chris Evens is finished with his contract and currently has no plans to returns. Therefore they have to do something final with him..... however with time travel discovered they can use it to pluck Steve Roger's out of time whenever they need him. So if Chris decides to come back they can do it.

Whether you ship them as a couple or not, we all acknowledge the friendship/brotherhood between Steve and Bucky. I just don't buy this ending. Winter Soldier and Civil War were all about Steve giving everything up for Bucky (His Shield, his team, his 'good guy' persona, etc.) After that final battle, the fight is over, Bucky's head is all whole and healed, and they can finally just chill and be bros. And you expect me to believe that Steve would just peace out and leave Bucky all alone in 2023 while he lives it up with Peggy? Nah.

it is interesting I liked it because Cap finally took something for himself! I was never a stucky shipper as I always thought that it was fairly laid out that cap was longing for Peggy and the past that he could never return to. Bucky Barnes was important because he was not only Steve's best friend but the only link he had at the time to the past.

I remember when watching that some people were going to be salty or annoyed by how Steve's arc ended up going. Didn't expect just how badly it would end up being taken though. I mean I can see where at least some of the arguments are coming from but I got a completely different read. I was happy with it, even the whole part about the shield. Bucky's been through enough, that's a responsibility he shouldn't have to shoulder now that he can maybe finally find rest. So I get it. Also Bucky hasn't been left entirely alone, he has started to form some other connections. Not to the same level but a start. I honestly think he would have wanted Steve to have this. There was an understanding there in their parting and i thought that was very meaningful and in character. But that's just me. Maybe it's because I never shipped them. At the end of the day I don't think there was anything malicious here, just a difference in vision between the fans and creators. Overall I loved this movie. I had issues here and there but not with the handling of Bucky and Steve. Most of it had more to do with the handling of Thor.

Gaxxy i understand why some people are disappointed. In previous movies they made such a big deal about Stuckys relationship. For example in winter soldier and civil war. It was very emotional etc. Whereas in endgame they didn’t even get the chance to exchange more than a sentence.. but as the same time they didn’t have enough time during the movie to create dialogues with every characters so I understand that they can’t satisfy everyone

I was waiting for Steve and Bucky to have an emotional reunion, even if it was just platonic. They got one hug and a few lines of dialogue. And then he was literally just in the background when they thought he'd been lost in time. I didn't understand why there was such a sudden emphasis on Sam and Peggy when Bucky was the person they kept advertising as his fallen one. Peggy had already died two or three movies before and he'd been slowly moving on since, and it just sort of goes against what Steve was telling the people he was counseling.

The conversation between Steve and Bucky just before Steve goes to the past to me sounded like Bucky already knew the plan and was in on it. I can imagine that they’d already talked it through and maybe Steve offered to take Bucky with him or find him and save past him. I also can’t see Bucky excepting these offers he has coped better than Steve in a lot of ways and I think would find it stranger to go back than to keep moving forward. Their proper good bye could have been really moving to watch but my imagination is happy enough to fill in the spaces and enjoy the little looks and words shared.

as a Steggy and Stucky fan I can say that, in a way, I'm happy that Steve got his happy ending and his dance with Peggy. I really am, but not to the point where Bucky was cast aside like that, like an afterthought where you didn't even see their chemistry and friendship they were recognized for. We can't have everything, but it broke my heart to see so little of Bucky and his storyline. Hopefully they might do something about that. My brother kept saying that in his opinion, Bucky somehow knew what Steve was going to do. He was to calm and not at all surprised like Sam when Steve was quietly waiting on that park bench. Maybe there is more to the story then we expect. Oh well, there's always fanfiction...

Wether you saw Steve and Bucky's relationship as romantic or platonic, there was no doubt that their relationship was the heart of the Captain America trilogy. Because of this, Endgame's handling of this kinship was a slap to the face for fans because it was essentially only given 30 seconds at the end of the film. Other characters and relationships were given time and closure. Steve and Bucky were not.

I actually liked the ending. It's obvious that they needed to end Steve's role for good but choose to not kill him. But still, there was no way for him to stay as himself in the present and retire in peace : just like Tony, people would always come back to him and ask him to fight again. I mean, Tony tried to quit at the end of Iron Man 3 and couldn't stop because he couldn't just stay back when he knew he could do something. Steve is the same, he would never be able to "get a life" here, not when people see him more as Captain America, the symbol than they see him as Steve Roger, the person. I don't know if Steve went in the past knowing he would not come back, but Bucky clearly knew. Their goodbye before Steve got into the portal was a real goodbye: they hugged, made a call back to Captain America 1 ("don't do anything stupid while I'm gone/How could I? You're taking all the stupid with you") and Bucky told Steve he was going to miss him. He knew. He looked more surprised to see Steve again than when he didn't see Steve coming back out of that portal. He knew Steve would stay and he was fine with it. Now, the way I see it, Steve went back in time, met Peggy again, they probably talked because Steve would never do something like that if Peggy was not aware of the consequences (it would be OOC and would not make sense, he can't come back and not explain how he did it) and they both choose that. Sure, Peggy moved on in the original time line, but she made her choice based on what she had. She had another option here, a chance to have a life with Steve and she made that choice. They had a life and then, instead of dying in his new timeline (that he might have changed, we don't know, because to quote the movie "changing the past doesn't change the future", even if Steve saved Bucky and stopped Hydra in the past, we can't know because it's a different timeline), he came back in his original time line (using the suit instead of the portal, which is possible since Tony and Steve did the except same thing when they went from 2012 to 1970), where he gave his shield to Sam. And it didn't feel OOC for Steve to do that. He spends his entire life putting others people before himself, he always sacrifices himself for the greater good, always fights other's people wars and always do what he feels is right (even if it's not right for him). He fought WW2, died but not really for it, woke up in another century and fought again, he literally just saved the universe (with help, I'm not saying he did that on his own obviously). He did enough, he fought enough. He deserved to do what he felt was the best for himself for once and if he felt that it was trying to have the life he never had a chance to get with Peggy, than it's fine with me. It felt right: after putting the world before himself for so many years, he finally puts himself first and found happiness.

1. The way they explained the timeline is weird. In essence, there is a timeline where Steve never goes back to the future and stayed with Peggy. 2. However in the timeline we've seen in all the movies, there is a theory it was implied that Steve would be her husband. In her family photos, you never see her husband and he was only mentioned by Peggy. If you take that into account, then Steve would have to hide, since he should be in the ice. Does that make sense. 3. BUT it should also be known, that them returning the stones means what we have seen in the last 10 years, takes place. They literally made an AU where Steve stays in the past. They have a AU where Loki gets away in 2012, and never goes back to the dungeons in Asgard 4. Also I think in a way this was Buckys rest. With Sam taking up the Captain Mantale(like the comics). Bucky is now free to be Bucky and just live. Unless Disney + decides to make him White wolf 5. I know it's not Stucky but can we talk for a second about the Fat phobia of Thor. I know its supposed to be a joke but it just made me uncomfortable. Like the man lost EVERYTHING and got depressed and started to drink to numb the pain. And they used it as a joke. I've been in that boat before and I understood what he was feeling. It was made as a joke but you could tell Thor had feeling about his body image and clear PTSD. I dunno it just rubbed me the wrong way. Fat Thor is valid too and is STILL a bad ass

All other things aside ... I was really confused by how that even worked. Wouldn't Steve going back create an alternate timeline where he ended up with Peggy, but it didn't, it has to have been the same timeline or he would not have been able to meet up with them again as an old man. Was he just on the side line watching all the shit going down, knowing it would app happen and doing nothing? How did it even manage to not create an alternate timeline? We know that Peggy lived a long life and while she didn't have kids as far as we know, she did have a husband. Did this change matter so little in Peggy's life that it had no impact what so ever? And also no one ever recognised Steve Rogers? He just kept his identity secret until his death? Was he then her husband this whole time and he never went searching for his best friend whom he knew was being tortured and used to kill innocent people. People Steve knew and saw as friends? Howard Stark who never stopped searching for him? I am used to not getting what I want or even expecting it, I have been in fandoms since the 90's so for me, the fact that we are sometimes getting the bare minimum rather than nothing, is huge in my world. The fact that Stucky didn't happen ... I had not even in my wildest dreams expected it to happen ... But I still felt that Steve staying in the past was odd. I bought most of the back and fourth in time thing, but this one ... I am just really confused.

I have...complicated feelings about Endgame. I've been a Stucky shipper since The First Avenger game out in 2011 and whilst I obviously wanted canon Stucky, I never actually expected it to happen. That being said, whilst I wasn't expecting some mushy, happy ending where they end up together, I assumed, since there are two whole movies dedicated to Steve's devotion to Bucky that they'd at least communicate more in Steve's final two movies. I found it quite jarring that the old version of Steve didn't even talk to Bucky when he came back. I personally feel that it was a bit of an insult to the story that they'd built up over The First Avenger, The Winter Soldier and Civil War, it felt wrong. I wouldn't say I hate that he went back to be with Peggy, in fact I think even "dislike" is too strong of a word for how I feel about it, but it definitely wasn't satisfying to me. Don't get me wrong, I adore Peggy Carter and I'm glad that Steve got his well-deserved happy ending, I just think it was a little out of place. Personally, yeah it did feel like a little "fuck you" to Stucky shippers and whilst I don't think it was intended as such it still had that effect. If you build up a relationship over three movies then you've gotta have at least some closure to the relationship, it really felt like Bucky barely existed in Infinity War and Endgame and I gotta admit I'm upset about it. "End of the line" my ass Russo brothers. I think my MAIN problems with it actually don't have much to do with Bucky if I'm honest. For one, I don't like how they just rewrote Peggy's life, like what about her husband and kids? Like sheesh was none of that important? And let's be real, Steve is way too self sacrificing to go back and fuck up Peggy's life and family, it felt out of character. Secondly, are we all forgetting that thing with Sharon Carter? Am I the only one who is really weirded out by the whole thing? Like, it's one thing to get with the niece of your past love interest AFTER getting over them and moving on (though still creepy imo) it's another to then go back and be with the original love interest...Third of all, I have a hard time believing that he'd go through all that he did in Endgame to get everyone back and then split shortly after. It all just felt like the ending to a previously written version of Endgame, like they'd written it like this earlier on but scrapped it and then came back to it, it didn't feel right.

I had to go deep so that I wouldnt scream. I had a massive headache the whole time. I noticed two things with the ending. 1.) They used the ONE song stucky shippers used as proof to analyse the Stucky relationship...Its Been A Long Time. 2. Unless you know it, there was a scene in the comics where Steve found out about the possibility to time travel. He got really excited and started telling Tony the he would go back in time and save Bucky and they would live out life as train hobos not doing anything to affect the timeline. His words. Tony talked him down but that was his plan. With those two things together It feels like they knew all the right answers and deliberatly chose all the wrong ones. No offense to Peggy. That Dance was wonderful, and I believe Steve would have done it, but not stay that long. OH and he would have been older but not THAT old. Again all to seperate the two. It came off like a big grease stain and Im sure they know that. I took my Stucky goggles off for this and everything. Not Im putting them back on. Disney I see you.....Now that its over They need to release all the scriptes and footage that Steve and Bucky related for all the pain and suffering that ending has caused me lol.
