Impressive work! I'm a sort of dude who like to do things in garden so I can tell how good the blade you have. Usually, chopping banana trees that size with same sized blade as yours are exhausting, largely because they are very lightweight and we know how shock absorbant banana tree stem are. Instead, you easly slices trough with a fraction of power every swing I usually had to.

Thing is, despite the size, to me those banana trees seems soft, if compared to bamboo etc so ain't sure if this may be a good test for functional swords. Just my two cents :-)

I've cut with mat, bamboo, and banana tree. To me, they are all good and fun to cut. Yes, the banana tree is soft, but if your hands are not steady, you can bend the blade easily.

you do realize that the Shirasaya was ONLY a way to present the blade to the new owner as a temporary way to protect the blade and nakago and not really meant to use.

Yes, I do realize that. But since it came from China and the glue used there is better that a rice glue, so the handle is quite strong here.

This is a T10 clay tempered katana. No one really do sword fight anymore. Most use sword for cutting practice only.

Jovan Kodo plenty of things can be used in a way that is not their intended purpose. and if these guys cared for "safety" they wouldnt be swing a sword to chop whatever it is theyre chopping nor would they wear tshirts and shorts, no eyewear, or anything like that. they are just "playing around".
