Shirley MacLaine had a mad crush on Dean Martin. She said she even went to his house once, was brought inside, all his kids were there and Dean just shooed them out and sat down to talk to her, but she didn't have much to say, felt stupid. Dean was extremely attractive, had an effect on a lot of women, but he was very much a family man. His kids said he was home for dinner every night

@@beachgirl48 Was it Deana Martin’s bio? I might try reading it. Did she write about partying with Charles Manson at Dennis Wilson’s house and testifying at one of the Manson Family murder trials? Ironically her father starred in a film, “The Wrecking Crew,” with Sharon Tate, her last film released before her death which was also featured in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.

Except Anthony Hopkins, who was an alcoholic AND admittedly fueled by his own anger, was the only outspoken actor about Shirley Maclaine being "difficult" to work with. Yet at the time they worked together he was still a recovering alcoholic. So who was much more likely to be difficult to work with? For my money, all signs point to Hopkins, not Maclaine.

I used to think very highly of Shirley MacLaine until I attended an event where she spoke to an audience and then had a book signing. Many people bought her book and stood in line for her to sign it, including me. She never once even looked at, or commented to any of the people who had just bought a ticket to hear her talk and had just bought her over-priced book. That's an old feminist myth. Male actors don't get tarred for being difficult??? Guess you've never heard of Marlon Brando, Christian Bale, Edward Norton, Russell Crowe, Kirk Douglas, Dustin Hoffman, Orson Welles, and quite a few others. I recall in my corporate career so many women saying "If a woman acts a certain way, she's called a "bitch" but that doesn't hold for a man!". I think everyone has the right to keep their personal life private and that includes celebrities. Shirley has opened up to the public many of her beliefs, likes and dislikes. I think at the age of 90+ years old or whatever age a person is it should be allowed to keep an illness or disability private for as long as they want. She’s entertained us for many years and after the skepticism she received from people like Letterman, I would tend to be quiet too. He’s not the type to be quiet about it.

I too was a tomboy growing up, and played baseball with the boys instead of dolls, but as I aged I got more in touch with my feminine side. No, we all have characteristics, such as perceptions, interests, feelings, etc. that are categorized as masculine or feminine, but we are all either male or female, not both, save for those rare few who are genetically intersexed. Shirley may have been a good actress, but she seems to have a lot of character flaws that have little to do with simply being self assured. ThundermansThunder Thinking you may be assuming what I may be feeling. There is no doubt in my mind that transgenders exist, and if you believe in God, they too were created and should be loved and accepted as they were made to feel. I certainly believe that if a child believes they are the opposite of the sex they were born they should be heard, I can't imagine how painful and traumatic it must be to not understand why you have a biological body that is the opposite of who you believe you are. We are Spiritual beings having a human experience, we need to stop listening to others who judge, and instead imagine what it would be like to be them. These are sweet souls, who just want to be accepted the way God made them, I've personally met several, and I know this to be true. I can maybe answer that! Clint stayed at the hotel where I was a clerk , while filming the unforgiven and his then girlfriend was with him! Many women think that he is an ass, but trust me, he is so down to earth, and never asked for anything including room service !! But he is very very serious as both an actor and director, and expected all the actors he brought to our little town, he wanted them to work as hard as he did,not to get drunk, and he can’t stand rudeness! Maybe these women tried to make Clint more than a director / actor ? I’ve been in love with him since I was 16 years old! I was terrified to meet him, and I shook all over and fumbled with my words! But I could have just relaxed! Not one of us had anything negative to say about him! What he does with his private life and loves, is his business ! He invited us all in for drinks in the lounge before they left!! Top class! And I can tell you some of the other big names in that movie stayed there as well, and they could learn a thing or two as to how to behave when you are a guest! He’s not fancy at all, ate the very mediocre meals they made in that hotel, only asked for towels and one time, to have someone bring up some food!

I have always admirer the acting abilities of Ms Ms Maclaine. Having stayed this, I shall also note, she has always stayed true to herself, as most people should. She may have disliked the noted actor, Clint Eastwood, she perhaps, never really used the term "hated" to describe their relationship. I prefer to believe with her upbringing, the word "HATE" was never allowed. I do wish her continued success in overcoming any future maladies that might befall her . Finally, I give her my heartfull thanks for the many years of entertainment she provided to us, as devoted fans. She was a bright light that illuminated both stage and screen. May she remain as one of Hollywood's most remembered talented actresses. She has earned our accolades and praise for a life, (although not over), but DEFINITELY...... well lived!

The people in line next to her just averted their eyes and just looked at the floor except for one tall gentleman who loudly blurted out "What an asshole' than the rest of the people gave him their applause. An actor can be talented and exceptional but like anyone else on the planet. There are exceptional people in Every profession. Plus, in a highly charged atmosphere on a film, there are times when creative tempers may flare. There are also professional people in every profession who expect a high level of commitment and professionalism to a project. When people simply become prickly and narsty as a result, not so much. You can be nice, courteous and forthright without treating others like rubbish. Everyone puts their pants on one leg at a time. Rudeness and entitlement are not acceptable. How many current A-list stars are really likeable and kind and considerate toward others from the lowliest in the production company to the director and your co-stars? Many. No one has the right to be arrogant in our current society. Success in your profession does not entitle you to belittle others or to claim power over them. Just rude and inconsiderate and lacking in empathy.

I imagine she was just bored with people bugging her about her past lives claims and took it out on Dave who really wasn't prepared for the interview and in regular Dave fashion he wouldn't drop it, much like what he did to Paris Hilton when she came on. To blame her for not doing a pre-interview is a bit lame, afterall, she has had an amazing career and there is many things he could have chosen to speak about.

I was living in Philadelphia while they were shooting the movie, "In Her Shoes". Her movie stand-in (who was a local actress) for the film, came into a store that I was managing at the time and said that Shirley was icy cold and treated her as if she was a threat. Shirley seemed extremely competitive with other women. Which surprise her because she was merely her stand-in.

@@veannegilchrist9925 She was an understudy in a Broadway musical and went on for Carol Haney in The Pajama Game. That was her supposed "big break." But an understudy in a stage production (sometimes called a stand-by if it's a major star the person is understudying) is not the same as a stand-in for a movie. A stand-in in a movie literally *stands in* for the actor while the crew fix the lights and cameras. When the crew is done with the technical aspects and the scene is ready to be filmed, the stand -in leaves, and the actor does the scene.

Unless a person has committed horrible acts of immoral crime I don’t find it hard to separate an artist’s personality from their talent. The talent is the thing. Shirley MacLaine’s art form unfortunately exposes her private life to the public a great deal. If she was famous for her paintings or photography no one would give a crap that she was rude. Great talent comes from hard, hard work but the performance isn’t enough for some people. They want to believe this person could be their friend and you know what? A performer gets paid for what art they produce not for fulfilling your fantasies. Accept the art and move on.

I worked as a flight attendant for about 18 years, back in the day. Must have had about 100 -200 major celebrities on flights throughout those years--everyone from Meat Loaf to Marlon Brando. ALL were very kind except one. Never could figure out what her problem was on the day she flew with us. No, it wasn't SM. However, you gotta just respect their privacy. If EVERYWHERE you went in you life you were studied and EVERYTHING you said was scrutinized you might get a bit testy too. I do remember a night flight from Las Vegas to L.A. I'd had with Phyllis Diller who'd accidently dropped a ring up in the first-class area. We spent the major part of the short flight crawling around the floor of the first class cabin with Phyllis cackeling thrughout. All the folks in the back of the plane knew exactly who was up front. She made us all have a fun trip. Yes, we finally found the ring..
