This upload is intended to be a public service to the millions of punjabi poetry lovers all round the world who have come to adore the Poetry of Shiv Kumar Batalvi.
This extract is a live interview with the genius, and gives a glimpse of the mindset that created all the work we have come to love.
In my view, his own rendition carries far more feeling & emotion than experienced from other singers.

Also he kept Putting in Shiv's mouth that he became shaaer from getting hurt(which they like to fool and mind wash all young ppl abt esp punjabis, because they want them to hurt themselves to become one, but in REALITy once you are hurt you STOP singing, u cant sing OBVIOUSLY, if someone is still mindwashed abt it, look at the legend Bhupinder Singh Ghazal gaaek- they killed his only son so that he stops singing, thats HOW much they r jealous of Sikh, jealous of Punjabis!! They killed Jaspal Bhatti, they dont let any Punjabi especially Sikh become too famous, THEY only "make" South Indians, Bangalis shine, thats the politics AGAINST Punjabis esp Sikh its only Pro South Indian and Bangali, now Gujrati, mraathi, rajasthani as well.)

Amazing Person. His poetry was sung by Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan as well. He was born in Pakistani city Narowal in Shakargarh District. It was only district of Gurdaspur given to Pakistan at the time of Independence. We Pakistani and Indians have many things in common like Shiv Kumar Batalvi then why we always fight and argue? We should have to just and give each other their rights. PEACE LOVE TO ALL INDIANS :) .

I do not think any sane person can criticise this great man. This man is the greatest poet ever born on earth. I have read many English poets. No one can match shiv . He is beyond words. I find god in him

Though I am a great fan of Shiv Kumar Batalvi, His ever saddest songs heart touching which seems to be ever green sung by prominent Urdu and Punjabi singers...I could not stop feeling the pain in his songs...Salute to the GREAT PUNJABI POET !

I just finished watching this video and i am speachless. This video made my eyes wet. Mere geet we look sunende ne, Nale kafer aakh sadende ne. Main dard nu kaba keh baitha, Rab naa rakh baitha peera da. Main we oh rukh(tree) chandra, Jisnu kha gyean osdean chawan(Shadow). Ohh Shiv.... Thanks ssdhanjal.

Anyone will fall in love with him. Age and gender make no difference. Yes , I am a woman, but Shiv ji is old enough to be my grandfather. The way I love him, I initially thought was romantic but I realise its much more... it's like 1 soul who deeply understands and feels for the other. I'm sure if we met, he would understand me too and what I went through with my social anxiety and stuff.

I am very happy to see this video, he is my favorite poet for last 50 years and i have read many of his poems ( again and again)in last 50 years and i don't have words to explain how i am feeling after listening his voice, his poetry in his own voice, although i can see and feel pain in his eyes ,anyway thanks a ton to the person who uploaded it

एक कलाकार का कद इतना ऊंचा होता है कि वो अपनी कला की बदौलत दुनिया के दूसरे कोने में बैठे इंसान को, जो उसकी जुबान से वाकिफ भी नहीं है, अपना मुरीद बना सकता है। उदाहरण के तौर पर बटालवी साहब किस को भी मंत्रमुग्ध कर पंजाबी साहित्य और कलाकार को जानने के लिए भूख पैदा कर सकते हैं। खुद कितने मासूम दिखते है जैसे कोई मासूम बच्चा, अल्फाज बड़ी नजाकत के साथ परोसते हैं और उनका लिखा तो जैसे फूलों की बारिश।💐😊

So handsome he was... and what makes him attractive is his strong command of Punjabi language and the way his poems just flow out of his soft and tender heart. So gentle he was... how I wish to meet him when I go to heaven and give him a hug

His every word is pain, people write he was drunk, but look at his eyes, the tears are there as always, I have started reading punjabi poetry after listening to his somgs, every time you hear every line, you are amazed at thedepths he manages to achieve, people like Shiv Kumar Batalvi, are custodians of a culture, even despite having so much bhangra, cheap poetry, people like us come back to listen to him, to thank him and to pay our tribute to a legend.

I agree we need to be sensitive to his family. True Punjabi culture is to be sensitive to feelings of all. Big lesson for me is to focus less on the gossip surrounding SKB's life & just enjoy his work & mindset (surt in Punjabi) Let us ask what lesssons we can take from his work that give us enjoyment & improve our quality of life. Listening to his interview, I pick out the inequalities in society & the rituals that create pain. Let us see if we can do our little bit to change these.
