What's up, people! I'm back with another Lucky Dip reaction from friend and champion of the channel Nigel, who has recently shared this and numerous Tori Amos albums .... and George Michael's solo stuff, and Visage! In the meantime, let's listen to this incredible and beautiful tune, which features a sax part like I've never heard. Cheers!
Also I set up a Patreon a little while back, so anyone interested in supporting what we do on this channel through donation (and getting a little bonus/behind-the-scenes content) can go here. / shnootz
And those who'd like to support the channel with a one-time donation can do so via PayPal, at billshattner@yahoo.com. Thanks!

It's spine tingling! The song has extra sentimentality for me as it was my first slow dance at a school disco. Amazing then, and even better now.

This was a classic in the UK. The best saxophone since "Baker Street" by Gerry Rafferty and a similar feel to "Stay Till Dawn" by Judy Tzuke... if you're not familiar with those I'm sure Adam or Phil may have copies , worth a look if you are not familiar, but I digress, this is a beautiful track from her movie "Breaking Glass".

She has a some great songs in her repertoire. Drama was a main ingredient in many of them. Top tune.

This wonderful song takes me back to my childhood, its such a mature and kitchen sink love song. I felt I was growing up listening to this type of music, along with songs Echo beach, games without frontiers, and nightgames, it holds a special meaning for a boy turning into a teenager.

Great to see this awesome song reacted to, my father used to play this all the time when I was a child. Agree with izzyworld8068, Judy Tzuke with Stay With Me Till Dawn should be on your playlist. Another talented British artist who never broke in the US

Loved this very much as a child! A real gem! I wonder, why you didn't know it, as half of that song is the sax solo, and you know, how much you like sax!

Believe it or not Hazel O'Connor worked briefly as a belly dancer in a Beirut nightclub in the mid seventies before her fame and when Beirut was called the Paris of the Middle East.

Glad you liked the song Matt, I was sure you would. The song, as I explained is from her movie 'Breaking Glass' and it reached the top 10 in the UK (should have hit the top spot) and the chap playing the saxophone is called Wesley Magoogan. One of my all time lyric verses comes from this song, it is just beautiful: Take off your eyes, Bare your soul, Gather me to you and make me whole, Tell me your secrets, Sing me the song, Sing it to me in the silent tongue Glorious song and happy to see a reaction to it, thank you

Such a great song! Hazel O'Connor is quite a cool artist, she uses saxophone in a lot of her songs. The entire album this comes from, Breaking Glass, is a masterpiece.

She was popular in the very early 80s for a year or two, then seemed to vanish. I don't think I have ever seen anyone react to her on KZfaq before.

Duran Duran first tour was as a support act for Hazel O'Connor, who had a punk following, so they didn’t go down well initially but i think their music won some of them over. They joined Hazel on stage for a cover of Bowie's "Suffragette City" and in a documentary on DD's early years she said her band would watch DD backstage and became fans.

@@mattsnider2667 I was at one of Hazel's concerts when Duran Duran were the supporting act. It must've been early 1980's but I can't remember exactly. It was a great night all round.

Wesley went on to play with the beat. Or the English beat as they were called in the states. Not sure if he played on any albums with them, but know he played with them live in the early 80s.

Terrific track and great sax solos as you say. She puts so much feeling into this song. It really gets a hold of you. I don't know too much of her music but I do know another track called Eighth Day which is certainly worth tracking down. I'm aware she is an actress and starred in the film Breaking Glass. The other interesting factoid is that Duran Duran supported her on the tour that got them signed to EMI in 1980. How cool is that? Nice vid Matt.

From the 80s essevtial postpunk new wave movie Breaking Glass. One of the best tracks. In your icehouse dive youll come to i dont believe anymore great sax there too. But for some of the best post punk sax you should dive into Romeo Void, Benjamin Bossi is amazing and unique.not so much a solo but a second voice.
