Elvis was so blown away when he heard Tom Jones on the radio that he called the station and asked for the song to be played repeatedly. He and Tom ended up becoming great friends.

he checks all the boxes as a singer. he has the texture, the clarity, the control, the emotion, the soul and the POWER. Its hard to think of any better male vocalist with that kinda range. He has an opera singers vocal range but can do a variety of music genres.

Saw him maybe a decade ago at the Paramount in Oakland and he had Tower of Power open for him-TOWER…OF…POWER-who, not surprisingly, blew the frigging ROOF off the joint and made me go "Dear Lord, who can follow THAT?” Tom did. No problem. What more need be said?

Hearing you say you hadn't heard Tom do a "heartbreak song" - don't forget "I'll Never Fall In Love Again". The song title you couldn't recall was "Delilah".

I remember when Tom Jones first hit came out, “It’s Not Unusual”. We had never heard of him and had not seen him yet so when we got our first glimpse of him we were all shocked because everyone thought he was black. That voice can sing anything. I have heard him sing on The Voice UK and at 82 he is still incredible.

J & Amber, you'll love his "Its Not Unusual" and "What's New Pussycat" !!! Big hits of his. edit - I Who Have Nothing written by Jerry Leiber, Mike Stoller, Mogol, Carlo Donida. Jerry Leiber/Mike Stoller have co-written over 70 chart hits for many big artists of the 50's/60s including Elvis Presley, The Drifters and The Coasters.

Great song by Tom. What’s amazing is that he is not even out of breath. Not bad for a man who had TB as a kid and spent 2 years in bed (between 12 and 14 yrs)recovering. I remember him giving an interview about and saying that he would look out of his window and think that if he could ever walk down to the lamppost down the street and back , he would never complain again.

More used to hearing Dame Shirley Bassey - also Welsh - sing this. Sir Tom Jones has done a cracking turn before some Welsh rugby matches. All the fans joined in.

He's a judge on The Voice (UK) and belted out one of his new songs recently. That powerhouse is STILL amazing even in his 80's. Like others I recommend Shirley Bassey for female friday, (another Welsh powerehouse)... 👏🥰

Love how expressive Tom is... not just vocally, but what you can read in his face and the way he dramatically emphasizes certain lyrics with descriptive motions of his hands... so evident in the incredible passion displayed in this song. Note the way Tom makes his fingers ripple at the words "sparkle-y diamonds"... how he turns his hand in a sweeping motion as he sings "go dancing by"... and how his hand clenches along with the lyric "wrapped in his arms." I especially love the assertively quick wrench of his lip just before he gives that final power belt declaring his love. Tom is, hands down, my favorite singer... for the timbre and power of his voice; his control; his phrasing; his knowledge of just how to deliver a song, whether it's with utter class, incredible passion, or natural soul. I always love when he rocks out, and delight in seeing again those performances where he danced with abandon, and also when he showed his playful side. Who can deny his attractive masculinity, as well? Tom Jones to this day is a class act... convivial, respectful, and glad working with other artists... a consummate professional, and a performer with a clear mastery of music, and a true love of singing and pleasing his audience. You really should react to the really fun song "Flip, Flop, and Fly" Tom did in 1969 on his show. He teases the audience, and... well, you have to see it. The song had been on YT long ago and then disappeared, and I recently found that someone uploaded it again. You should watch it before it disappears again! It is great! ...But then, Tom is ALWAYS great. You know the ladies love him... and the performance he gives with that song shows just one of the reasons why!

Although being Australian I have been fortunate enough to hear him sing. There is something about his voice that affects my nervous system. Sent shivers up my spine and hit every nerve on the way up. This was first sung by Shirley Bassey. I don't think you have covered her.

I feel so vindicated! I was a little kid when Tom Jones was this huge star you are reacting to. I always wanted to see him perform live, but then as time went by he was considered yesterday's news and out of fashion. People would laugh at me when I said in the 80's and 90's that I wanted to go see him! Then he became cool again, everything old is new again I guess! So glad to see younger generations appreciating Tom! By the way, Tom did not write his songs. It was standard for singers to sing songs written by songwriters until the 1970's when you started to see people like James Taylor, Carole King, Jackson Browne, Carly Simon, John Denver, many others, start the new phenomenon of "the singer/songwriter."

This song was first recorded in Italy by Joe Sentieri in 1961. Ben E King got a hold of it in 1963 with the lyrics Tom sings here. Shirley was fast on his heels, and Tom picked up the baton in 1970. It's one of those songs that sure shows off power and range and emotive ability. One for the shower! It's up there with I Will Never Fall in Love Again, one you already listened to. Molto Bene! As you asked for more Tom suggestions...Thunderball is a James bond classic, and Daughter of Darkness was a massive hit for Tom.

Tom is amazing, lucky enough to have met him a few times. I saw him in concert last month again. Hearing this song reminds me of Shirley Bassey as she did a version of this song. Most famous for her bond themes. Diamonds Are Forever & Goldfinger are probably the most well known two. You should give her a listen too. She's basically the female version of Tom. Both Welsh and both complete power Houses! She would be perfect for a female Friday! She recently rocked up at the 2022 BAFTA awards at 85 and sang diamonds are forever celebrating 60 years of James Bond. Blew the audience away and got a standing ovation. She's only got better with age like Tom.

I saw Sir Tom every time he came to Memphis. He was appearing at Mud Island where the audience is sitting outside, the stage has a slight cover. It was raining, we were wet waiting for the show to start. He started the sow singing this song, he was off stage, I kid you not the moment he started singing it stopped raining. It was mesmerizing, he always is.

If you want Tom performing a heartbreak song, you’ve got to seek out “ I’ll Never Fall in Love Again” it’ll blow your socks off. It’s a recording from the Dusty Springfield TV show in 1967. There are at least 30 reactions on KZfaq that I have seen, so you have a bit of catching up to do.

Have you watched Tom as a judge on The Voice UK? The son of a singer/songwriter Lonnie Donegan auditions and his father had previously written a song for Tom titled "I'll never fall in love again". Tom asks if he knows the song and he answers yes and they do a duet. It's amazing.

Powerful, iconic voice. He can hit a powerful note right at the start without having to build up to it. His voice sounds like no other. When he does duets, he has so much comraderie with the other person. Very charismatic

Tom Jones is viewed as one of the most popular Welsh singers to have become a star in the US. I am surprised, therefore, that while you've reviewed several of his big hits, his female counterpart you've ignored. Sir Tom is of an age with Dame Shirley Bassey, a Welsh songstress of a similar age, who has more hits in the US even than the boy who grew up just 20 miles from her. You would love her as much as you do Tom.

I remember when I was a little kid and my mom and older sister would be mesmerized by Tom on TV. Jordan Sparks did a beautiful version of this song on American Idol.

Tom has such a strong voice. I'll Never Fall in Love Again, was massive. Tom sang with the kind of power rarely seen today.Thanks again for this memory.

There has not been another power voice since Tom Jones and that voice has gotten better with age. Watch the Voice UK he occasionally sings and hits it out of the park.

I've been a big fan since the start of his career. I got to see him in concert in Las Vegas a few years ago and he was simply amazing. He sounded just as great as ever, sang hits from every decade, and even did a rap that was very very good. He really can sing anything.

This was also done by Dame Shirley Bassey, the sixth and youngest child of the family in Tiger Bay, Cardiff. Being born In Tiger Bay is a good enough reason to react to her version in the future. Go Bengals. 🐯🐯🐯

Wow ... it got pretty operating there at the end with that high note. Something that he could pull off which also shows his ability. The song is really the english rendition of Carlo Donida's "Uno dei Tanti". Tom Jones' cover was the most popular English rendition.
