@@ValConB Lazy editing doesn't change the basic math of EV's. ALL EV's have a larger LIFETIME carbon footprint than ICE vehicles. ...Half of ANY vehicles carbon footprint occurs in production. ...If not in an accident EV's are scrapped when the batteries are no longer efficient at about 150,000 miles, ICE vehicles are scrapped at twice that. ...In other words to drive 300,000 miles a person will have to own 2 EV's or one ICEV.....and half the carbon footprint is baked in during production of any car. ...LIFETIME vehicle carbon footprint is what you look at. Building twice as many vehicles is never going to reduce carbon emissions ...Finally every single gram of an ICEV is recycled. EVERY GRAM! The ton of batteries in an EV must be processed for disposal...and that process is very energy intensive. ...Like everything else he speaks of Elon Musk lied about EV's to enrich himself. EV's are actually brown and getting browner. Do you really believe the Cyber Truck is anything other than an Elon ego trip? It's sure as hell not environmentally friendly. The production of stainless steel is extremely energy intensive so the Cyber Trucks stainless steel body gives it TWICE the carbon footprint at production of any other pickup truck. ...Elon doesn't care about anything other than Elon. Not even his own 12 children he never sees.

For an explosion or fierce fire to happen, we need fuel, oxygen, proper mixing of those, and finally an ignition source. Diesel will only properly mix with air when heated or misted. Gasoline will mix with air and only needs an ignition source. These fuels can harmlessly disperse if no ignition source is present. The Li-ion cell has all of it built-in: electrical energy will provide the ignition source and also the oxygen is built-in.

An EV is a silly stupid concept that should not have passed the envelope stage of discussion. My old airbag boss INVENTED the modern PWM (pulse width Modulated) EV and guess what? They forgot to do the thermal calculations and had they done their homework and not assumed wrong conclusions, we would not have EV now. 50% of load is used for cooling and heating on cold/hot days. This is a silly joke. They also forgot to do the fire calculations, which should have shown EVs are invalid as a concept. First 5 minutes of engineering overview shows EVs are a JOKE.

Those figures are from the Society of Automotive Engineers(SAE). Now the question everybody should be asking: When these vehicles are put to work, hauling people(> one) or cargo, how do those respective vehicles handle that chore. The clear winner is the Diesel, then Petrol a little ways back & bringing up the rear is the overheating EV, depending on the load. That whole 'ICE vehicles catch fire just as often' argument really boils my piss, not only is it blatantly untrue, even if it was true they never look at all the figures? For starters, there are many more ICE vehicles currently on the road, instead of just quoting figures how about quoting them as a percentage of the number of that particular type on the road (eg. 5% of EVs spontaneously combust compared to 0.001% of ICE cars (numbers used for example, not factual)). What is the average age of these vehicles that catch fire? You can guarantee that ICE car fires happen to vehicles that are a lot older than average age of EV destruction.

Add the fact that China hasnt released any new fire stats since 2022,, kinda skews the global figures. And heres the thing: ICE fires usually happen to ICE cars that are how old? Very old cars… usually more than 10 years old. N the fire usually starts from electrical issues anway, due to frayed or rotted wire looms that short each other out. How old is the oldest tesla model S otr? 11 years old? And those older teslas had batteries supplied by panasonic if im not mistaken. Yup, trust a japanese to make reliable products, even batteries. These new generation of mass market BEVs… most of them source their batteries from CATL, right? Theyre barely 5 years old. No decent car should have ANY issue in the first 5 years of its life.

Having witnessed a fatality where occupants were incinerated and since then suffering ongoing nightmares and sleep disorders as a result, there really is no horror that can come close. Electric vehicles (EVs) are significantly less likely to catch fire compared to internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles. Here are the key statistics: According to one analysis of U.S. government data, there were 25.1 fires per 100,000 EVs sold, compared to 1,529 fires per 100,000 ICE vehicles sold . This means ICE vehicles are about 61 times more likely to catch fire than EVs. A study by AutoInsuranceEZ found similar results: EVs: 25 fires per 100,000 vehicles sold ICE vehicles: 1,530 fires per 100,000 vehicles sold Hybrid vehicles: 3,475 fires per 100,000 vehicles sold Data from Norway showed that ICE vehicles produced four to five times as many fires as EVs . A Swedish study for 2022 found 68 fires per 100,000 vehicles for all fuel types combined, compared to 3.8 fires per 100,000 EVs . An Australian study concluded that there was a 0.0012% chance of an EV battery catching fire, compared to a 0.1% chance for ICE cars . These statistics consistently show that EVs are less likely to catch fire than ICE vehicles, with the ratio ranging from about 1:60 to 1:83 (EV fires : ICE fires). However, it's important to note that when EV fires do occur, they can be more challenging to extinguish and may require different firefighting techniques

My concern is what is going to be the outcome when one of the cars decides it’s time for a ‘’melt down’’ thermal runaway. I prefer the technology Meltdown.

Even if fire WASN’T an issue, they’re hard to charge, they have to be totaled in a crash, they’re prone to electronic glitches, they give people range anxiety, they’re too quiet so people don’t hear them when they move, they’re still too expensive for most people, there’s not enough charging stations to accommodate them, (need I go on?) they die in hot or cold environment extremes, insurance is reluctant to cover them, it takes a SHITLOAD of mining to make their Li-Ion batteries, there’s so few trained EV repair tech people that there may as well be none, and so forth and so on etc. etc. 😤

With an average of 5,000 cells in an EV's battery, a single defect or problem in one of them is enough for the car to explode. In 1,000,000 EVs on the road, we have 5,000,000,000 cells that need to work perfectly or else there are 5 billion possible causes of fire. A non-electric car has a much lower chance of catching fire, and simple maintenance is all it takes.

What a bunch of oil-industry propaganda. This video should be labeled as anti-EV hysteria, and nothing more than that. According to the most recent (2024) data on Autoweek, hybrid vehicles had the most fires per 100,000 sales at 3474.5. There were 1529.9 fires per 100k for gas vehicles and just 25.1 fires per 100k sales for electric vehicles. I wouldn't use anything from China as an example. I lost my son in an auto accident, and know that driving is dangerous, EV or ICE. I'll continue driving my Ford Mach-e, thank you. As much as you and Herr Trumpenstuffen try to disparage EV's, their adoption will continue to grow.

But when was the last time you heard of a gas car spontaneously catching fire just sitting in a driveway? You're comparing apples to oranges. Here's the difference though. @@GreenCarBuzz Actually I was a Republican until Herr Trumpenstuffen dumbed down the party. I am definitely not a liberal. But, as for "freedom" of choice, you are free to buy an ICE. They talk about how many more ICE vehicles catch fire than an EV, but EV's are only about 10% of the vehicles on the road. So you might think 90% of cars might catch fire more often, but the ICE fires are nothing like the EV battery fires. A small fire extinguisher can generally put out the ICE fire, and an EV fire can take thousands of gallons of water to put them out, and they frequently restart, maybe several times. They will actually burn when completely submerged in water.

@@GreenCarBuzz Car, no, lawnmower, yes. It burned down his entire barn. You might Google this to find out more from the NTSB. That's where I got it from. But 25 out of 100,000 is a pretty insignificant number. You made it seem like they were all about to go. They used the same batteries as cell phones which were also having the same problem. The chemistry has been changed, and it's unlikely in either case. But I will try to find out more about the NTSB data.
