The unfortunate part is this, on the cessationist, they really believe that their objections against charismatics is based on discernment. In other words they think that their criticism is based on discernment. And once they have that mindset that they’re willing to die on instead of asking themselves “is my discernment wrong,” it’s going to take a spiritual awakening in their hearts to make them realize that they were wrong. Because trust me, I was like this to. That wasn’t until God show me full video tapes of the Brownsville Revival and woke me up and realized I was wrong.

My journey of following Jesus has started by listening to the kings cessationism , it’s brought me no joy ,no compassion, no personal relationship with Jesus but instead a legalistic , judgmental spirit of misery. This theology has been very damaging to me personally and it’s something that I’m having to unlearn which is hard to do. Gifts have not ceased, God is still using people in a powerful way to this day ! 🙏

The same here🙈 but God is good. He baptised me with His Holy Ghost and gave the gift of tongues, however I was going to a baptist church that time with zero teaching on gifts🤭

Isn't it interesting that on one hand they dismiss that people were practicing the gifts in church history until the early 1900s, but will also bring up the Montanists and Anababptists when it suits their argument.

I was driving today and the holy spirit said your front right Tyre is about to blowout. I took it to the Tyre shop and the guy working there said he doubted it would last 24 hrs before something dangerous could happen driving with that tyre.

I grew up Lutheran (Wisconsin Synod) and I appreciate the focus on the Word of God. I attended Lutheran grade school, high school, and college. However, two things grieve me. I consider myself "sola scriptura" but I believe the entire Word of God. That includes the concept of being born again, and the coming of the Holy Spirit, and Lutherans deny the teaching of being born again. (I was never taught the book of John as a Lutheran.) Secondly, I didn't find out about Luther's rabid anti-semitism until I was an adult. To me, that is deceptive.

Loved your exegesis, Daniel ! In fact its poor exegesis to superficially attribute the word Jesus responded with, to generic signs and miracles. Makes total sense that he referred to the resurrection ( Even called it sign of Jonah ). Just too many voices online wanting to discount revival and miracles because it doesn’t fit their position. We need sane, sound voices of reason. And you’re one them!

I pray with expectation for healings. I'n not praying for a sign of God's existence, will or capability. I'm doing my job as a believer and calling for a healing. It's not a signt to me. It's a sign for any unbelieving wintesses present, but again, I'm not looking for a sign. I'm looking for a manifestation of that to which the sign points.

Luther called for the death of the peasants, Calvin had people beheaded and burnt at the stake, and Augustine was a Catholic monk. Those Calvinists who denounce Catholicism are actually their children.

Daniel, I am a charismatic and I think your fight with Luther isn't a good example. When Martin Luther referred to "peasants being straw," he was addressing the Peasants' Revolt of 1524-1525 in Germany. Luther's exact words were, "Peasants are no better than straw; they will not hear the word and they are without sense; therefore they must be compelled to hear the crack of the whip and the whiz of bullets and it is only what they deserve." This statement reflected his disdain for the rebellion and his support for the ruling authorities. He believed that the revolt was a threat to the social order and that the rebels should be suppressed by force if necessary. Which he wasn't completely wrong as the revolt escalated into violence and bloodshed as the peasants began attacking monasteries, church members and ministers. It's important to keep that context in mind as Luther became fed up with the unnecessary bloodshed against the church. Granted that wasn't the case with all peasants and it varied from location to location. In Luther's immediate location it just happened to be the case and knowing what he knew it was rather reasonable. However, history shows that the authorities were ruthless in exchange much later. That's not good either.... I'm just saying, attacking Luther isn't a strong position to take.

Cessationists contradict themselves by valuing evangelism; as evangelism is a gift of the Spirit. They will face significant trouble when they confront the Lord Jesus Christ for rejecting and detracting from the word of God. Now hath God set the members every one of them in the body, as it hath pleased him. The eye cannot say unto the hand, I have no need of thee: nor again the head to the feet, I have no need of you - 1 Corinthians 12.

Splitting the holy Scriptures in half to suit our preferences is to make the Holy Ghost a liar, the one who authored it; and the consequences can only be imagined. The foundation of the Bible, particularly the New Testament, lies in the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Denying one gift necessitates denying all gifts, including the gift of evangelism. Currently, the gifts do not function flawlessly (1 Corinthians 13:9), not due to any deficiency in the gifts themselves, but because spiritual treasures are housed in fragile vessels - 2 Corinthians 4:7; 1 Corinthians 3:13; so that your faith may rest not on human wisdom but on the power of God. Therefore, the Holy Spirit prompts us to scrutinize the prophesies and retain only what is in harmony with the truth - 1 Thessalonians 5:20,21. Though I have been deeply affected by false prophets, it does not justify creating a personal religion that rejects certain sections of the Bible. Exploring passages like Matthew 13 and other synoptic gospels reveals the complexity of Christianity - a mixture of good and bad elements. Jesus advised allowing both the good and the bad to coexist for now. It should not surprise us to encounter falsehoods within the Christian community, as even Satan can masquerade as an angel of light and a minister of Christ - - 2 Corinthians 11:141,5; to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect - Mark 13:22. This serves as a divine judgment on the disobedient - 1 Peter 2:8/ 2 Thessalonians 2:11. Heresies are necessary to distinguish the true believers among us - 1 Corinthians 11:19. Therefore, altering or subtracting from the Scriptures is a grave offense, tantamount to contending against God.

According to them, only Protestants are saved. So, suggesting that not believing in cessationism disqualifies one as a Protestant implies that cessationism is essential for salvation, undermining the sufficiency of faith in Jesus Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. Which contradicts "sola scriptura" and core gospel teachings. What a dangerous and heretical distortion of the gospel message

Luther was a False Prophet: God would not leave His Church in alleged darkness for around 1000 years to then send someone like Luther to "reform" His Church. As Tolkien noted, the Protestant revolution was primarily to deny the Eucharistic Sacrifice. Hope Prot friends come back home to Rome one day, as Rome is the True Apostolic Church, the Catholic Church.

The "Your not a real protestant if you disagree with cessationism" argument disregards the fact that many protestants at that time would have disagreed with many modern day protestants about baptism in Jesus name for example, the ana baptists invoked the name of Jesus and made a big deal about invoking the name unlike like catholics which only invoke the titles of the Godhead, yet many modern day protestants don't invoke the name of Jesus out loud at baptism, so are they not protestant anymore because they don't follow the pattern of early protestants? The logic doesn't hold up.

More disgruntled calvinist theologians mouthing off about things they do not understand. Sola Scripture while possibly well intentioned is a non-functional theology. You cannot have the Bible alone. It is meaningless. No one has "scripture alone". As soon as you open the Bible to read it, you don' t have "scripture alone" you have your mind and you bring your understandings. You probably bring the understandings of the pastors or teachers you listen to, but you certainly don't have "scripture alone". The Bible requires interpretation so it is NEVER "scripture alone". Even in terms of claiming the scriptures are the sole source for christian doctrine, just look at the mess of lack of understanding the cessationists are in. They prove by their theological understandings that "scripture alone" is inadequate. Get real and acknowledge that there has to be hermenutics, exegesis etc and hey while we are at it, let's acknowledge the need for the author to enlighten our understanding and then we are closer to following the Jesus of the Bible but much further away from claiming some kind of special and exalted place for the Bible which it doesn't even claim for itself.
