I was a sergeant in the Royal Marines, on leave, and I got arrested for defending myself against a black man who was a drug addict, with convictions for assault with a deadly weapon, abh,gbh, attempted murder and rape, been in and out of prison since he was 15. I was at a petrol station just stopped to get bread and milk on my way home after dropping my girlfriend off. Returning to my car this guy came up to me and rather rudely demanded money. I told him I don't have much as I just spent what I had, but I pulled out the change and offered it to him, about 60p. He then got hysterical and pulled a knife and screaming if I didn't give all my money he would cut my throat. I just laughed and told him to think very carefully about what he said and informed him that I can't stop him doing anything, but I will defend myself and told him that I am in the armed forces, he tried to stab me and I disarmed him and restrained him, had him face down on the ground in an arm lock. I told him that I am going to let him go if he calmed down and he calmed down, as soon as I helped him up he punched me, so I decked him. The guy in the petrol station shop had already called the police, they showed up saw me me with a cut lip and saw the guy on the ground with no physical harm as I hit him in the stomach, not even hard, he was winded,but the police arrested me and handcuffed me. When being questioned at the police station I was told I was arrested for a race attack and if I stopped lying and confessed to the crime then they would go easy on me. Insisted that I was lying about my name, I have an Indian first name and English surname, so I was told its clearly a false name because no white English man would have a name like that. I laughed saying that I am not a white English man I am however Anglo-Indian and I can prove my identity if they give me my wallet. So with a few racist remarks the detective got my wallet and I showed him my military id. He was rubbing his hands together and told me that he was going to add use of lethal force to the charge sheet. I just laughed at him and said I think you will need some evidence of that and there isn't any because all I did was stop the guy from killing me. They even had cctv footage which clearly showed that I was the victim of assault and the witness statement from the guy who worked at petrol station. After about 7 hours I was finally given a phone call so I called my C.O, 10 minutes later a very angry senior police officer came in and ordered the detective to apologise for being an arse and release me immediately. This was 1986, I was asked if I wanted to press charges against the detective for his racist remarks and the way I had been treated. I refused to press charges, but I did say that perhaps the best thing would be to put him back in uniform until he grows a brain and teach him to speak English properly, but definitely keep an eye on his drinking habits as he was stinking of alcohol. He was busted down to uniform and spent the rest of his career on the beat. Back then racism was everywhere, I have grown up with racism and being beaten up at school for being a paki, it wasn't nice, but at least you knew where you stood, these days it's worse, the police officers seem to make it up as they go along. We are supposed to be a more tolerant and accepting society these days but I think it's worse now than it was back then at least the police did actually do their job and got the criminals, unless of course they were on the take. However they don't have ignorance as an excuse these days, they just blatantly pick on British people for nothing more than exercising their right to free speech.

My mate is a copper in the met. He has done 25 years and he is now sick to death of all this bollox and these new woke officers. He says you cannot trust any of them to have your back in any situation! So for that reason he is getting out, just like all the other decent cops that we had.

One ex copper on TV yesterday explained just how bad the met plod have become. After an inspection it was astounded to find 10% of that force could NOT read or write English. Thats criminal, and who ever recruited these people should be locked up.
