First off beautiful truck! (both). I don't know about your numbers though, I did a mileage test in my 19 F350 CC (with 6.7L) and I was averaging 18.5-19.ish on the high way doing 65ish mph. My in town driving has gone way down but that's with a 1100lb plow hanging off the front, Fisher Poly Caster salt spreader in the bed and usually in tow/haul mode but still getting around 10mpg plowing and around 11-12mpg just driving.

ITSALLGOOD 74 I have an ‘09 V10 gasser, and when I put 35s on it, I lost less than 1mpg, nothing to that extent. These trucks weigh so much, the difference in tire weight is less than putting one of your buddies in the passenger seat. I went from stock 275-60r20’s (~34”) to 35-12.50r20’s and the weight difference was less than 10#/tire, so added less than 40# total. I agree with you that re-gen mode probably had something to do with it. If My ‘19 F-450 is not in re-gen, I get 15.5-16mpg highway @65mph (flat roads here in Hellinois), and have gotten as much as 16.7mpg @60mph. Keep in mind that’s with a DRW and 4.30 gears. It can drop several mpg when it’s in re-gen...
@SeaPro360
@SeaPro360 4 жыл бұрын
Wait. If you remove big tires from 2019, add 1.5 mpg. Add big tires to 2020 subtract 1.5 mpg...grand total 3mpg difference (at least). Swap tires/wheels between trucks and retest. THEN you will have good data. Great videos! Keep up the good work.

One thing, what is the status of the 2019? Overall mileage and maintenance? Recent oil change or no? New air filter? High mileage i.e worn? That might introduce some issues because, of course, the 2020 doesn't have those. But if it's in reasonable shape and had maintenance done on it recently then that is a huge difference. Thanks!

Just got my 2020 F350 Platinum Wednesday Jan 15 after having a 2019 F350 Platinum (had 24,000 kms). The radio program control screens are different on 2020 which is nice since now the presets can have AM or FM or Satellite all the same screen without having to change "Source". The heated steering wheel button is NOT on the climate screen anymore but I can see it at the top beside the clock on the home screen. Having only driven the 2020 for 2 days now, it does seem to ride smoother even though this particular truck came with the heavy service front suspension which I really did not want or need. The steering wheel feels easier to turn to me on the 2020. I love that the mirrors now "Auto Fold" as soon as I lock the truck. The headlights also seem to be brighter as I am constantly being flashed for having High Beams on when I am Low Beam. One thing I noticed is that as soon I unlock the 2020, I can hear an electrical humming sound coming from under the hood on the front driver's side. The sound does turn off after a few minutes if I don't start the truck. Just not sure why it makes this sound. Possibly the LED lights coming on from being unlocked? If anyone knows, please let me know. The 2020 short box also came with 3 inch hitch receiver instead of the 2 1/2 inch that I had on the 2019 short box. The nice thing about the 3 inch receiver hitch is that the holes are bigger & my trailer safety hooks can now fit in the holes. I had to add 3/4 shackles on my 2019 to accept the safety chain hooks. I still have a few 2 inch drawbars so I had to go get a 2 1/2 inch to 2 inch reducing sleeve. My 2020 came with 3 inch to 2 1/2 inch reducing sleeve. I popped into Ford in Calgary & they GAVE me a CURT 45408 Receiver Reducer sleeves for FREE so I can use all 3 sizes of drawbars now. Keep the videos coming as they are quite informative. I am in Canada, You are in Canada. it would be nice if you could also give us litres/100 km figures instead of just MPG & MPH figures. Thanks.

@kevinlauzon7665
@kevinlauzon7665 4 жыл бұрын
@@workplaytv Thanks! Yes, there is a setting for Auto-folding mirrors. The Mirrors must be OUT when you start the process. The exterior mirrors will automatically fold in toward the glass after you place the transmission in Park (P), switch off the vehicle, OPEN & CLOSE the driver’s side door and LOCK the vehicle by pressing “Lock" on fob or on door buttons. As you probably already know, pressing both bottom buttons on the door key pad locks any Ford vehicle. The exterior mirrors automatically unfold & return to their driving position after you unlock the vehicle. You can switch this feature “on" and “off” through the information display (See page 118 of Owner’s manual.) In the information cluster above the steering (Not the center display where radio, nav is), navigate as follows: Setting Advanced Settings Vehicle Mirrors Place check mark in front of "Auto Folding” Note: If you use the power-folding control to fold the mirrors on demand and the auto fold feature is switched on through information display, you must use the power-folding control again to unfold them (See page 99 of Owner’s manual.) Yes, I had to read the manual cause i couldn't get it to work even when "Mirrors Autofold" was set to on. The Mirrors must be OUT when you start the process.

@@workplaytv There are a few other things I am noticing as I drive the 2020 more & more. One other thing I noticed right away is the wireless phone charger on 2020 which my 2019 did not have. Not really a big deal with iPhone 11 Pro Max cause my battery has never dropped below 40% after a FULL day of phone use but it's nice that I won't have to worry about the phone charging cord anymore which is USB C on new iPhones. 2019 did not have USB C receptacle.

If you get BFG KO'2s or Goodyear Duratracs you're good. They are the lightest aggressive tire you can find, the 35x12.50r20 duratrac weighs 63 lbs and the bfg ko2 weighs 66 lbs in the same size so at worst you might lose 2 mpg. A lot of people run Toyo MT's in that size they weigh 79lbs and nitto trail grapplers weigh 76 lbs in that size so you would lose around 3-4 mpg with those tires due to the extra weight and tread difference.

I’m a diesel fanatic and love the power and mpg potential. However, I just finished a long drive (300+ mi one way) out of town. I drove my supercharged ‘12 Tundra with both pulleys, a tune, 4:88 posi (2wd) 6spd, 32” tall tires (275/55/20), empty bed & weighs about 5,500 lbs. I drove between 60mph and 85 mph with a few spurts to 90 through flat and hilly highway roads. My truck averaged 17.3 mpg on the 22 gallon tank. Around town I get about 13 mpg. It’s very fast and if I beat on it, the mpg will get as low as 11.5 - 12 mpg. IMO if you have a 6 or 10 spd combined with a low rear gear like a 3:73 - 4:88, you can get up to speed more quickly and you won’t lose much mpg overall as the OD helps out on hwy driving. My 6th gear is .54:1 and at 65mph I’m just at or under 2k rpm. Consider a few mods to the big Ford like a free flowing exhaust and a tune and you could see a bump in mpg and slightly better acceleration. The enormous weight of the 3/4 ton diesels (over 8k lbs) really hamstrings the Powerstroke from achieving more mileage.

I just drove from Las Vegas to Phoenix, 300 miles with my 2018 Lariat, Michelin stock tires, around 25,000 miles on odometer. The adaptive cruise control was set up at 80 mph. 17.4 mpg was the average when reaching destination. We all agree, that driving over 65 and 70 mph, it is a game changer when comes to gas/diesel consumption. So based on my experience and the test results you had, I am not convinced that the new 10 speed transmission it’s very impressive for mpg. I am wondering what will be the mpg driving back to Las Vegas, with the adaptive cruise on 70 or 65 mph? Thank you for taking on my invitation on doing the test comparing 6 speed vs 10 speed.

I have tested the trans temp on the 2021 6.7L 10 speed 4X4 F-350. The trans temp went to 210 deg on a hard pull but it did not recover on the down hill side of the hill. I let the engine idle for about 20 minutes and the trans temp was still at 210 DEG. I also tested the new 2020 7.3Lgas 10 speed. The results were even worse on the gas 7.3L. Empty the trans temp went to 220 DEG and the recovery time was way to long. I can get the 7.3L trans temp to 240 DEG easy. When it is at 240 DEG the TCM lockes the converter clutch at a low speed giving the pickup a luggie feel caused by the TCC locked up. I think Ford needs to improve the trans cooling system on the 10 speed units. The theory behind locking the TCC down at a lower speed causes the converter temp not to increase.

I’m experiencing the same, an increase of 3-4 mpg, wife and I went outta town yesterday and traveled 110 miles, mostly highway, 20.8 avg, hand calculated. 68mph. Have noticed much lower rpm’s, which leads me to one of my previous stated concerns, in order to keep the DPF clean and properly regenerated, you need heat. The 6 speed kept rpm’s higher thus producing more heat, the passive regeneration was flawless, with lower rpm’s I foresee this being an issue. I was lugging at 11-1200 rpm’s, in town I’m down to 1k rpm, I see the regens being either more often or needing more drive to clean messages in the future around 7-10k miles. Unless Ford is injecting more fuel to keep the heat up, idk, I’m not an engineer, but lugging at 1k rpm’s is a lot like idling, not good, only time will tell, anyway I’m loving the new truck, so far they’ve hit a home run.

How many litres did your 2019 take to go 86.7 km? Your 2020 took 10.79 litres which turns out to be 22.7 Imperial mpg. Not bad. I am from the Island so I relate to litres. Just the same, your '19 is hard on fuel. Hard to believe there is that much difference especially since the '20 is not broken in yet. Hope the 10 speed is reliable for you.

i wonder if it's the tires. i looked them both up there's about a 10 pound difference. the general grabbers are 68lbs each vs stock that are 55 ish. but they are also wider which kills fuel and you said you run them a little lower than ford tire pressure right. that's prob about 2 mpg. then they new 10 speed prob bought 2 mpg. but it does seem that your 350 does not get good mileage

Great test, but one thing you did not mention was the aerodynamics of the 2 trucks. The 2019 has an open box and headache rack and rails (the rack is higher than the cab with 2 lights on it) and your 2020 has the tonneau cover and no racks. This might account for 1 or maybe 1.5 mpg. Still a very fair and unbiased test. Thx

I'm a daily driver and MPG fan. My dash gauge is on mpg screen all the time and its like a contest for me to see what I can get. The white average mpg line & blue bar. If the blue is above the line, you are gaining mpg. Below and its dropping mpg. Like when going up or down a hill. When it drops way down its doing a regen. My 17 owners manual states along with driving habits, for max fuel mileage use a tonneau cover. My truck is a 17 6.7 3:31 rear and stock. So in the last 2 years and 30k miles I have gotten to know my fuel mileage. The last 2 years we have tripped from central Fl to west texas panhandle (3400 miles) round trip. 16 to 19mpg hand calculated. Last month we went to went to west texas (3000 round) and had a new tonneau cover. Leaving FL we had a stiff headwind and got 17.8 and 18.6 on the first 2 stops. I dont know know if it was the more flat route of I-10, head or tail wind or bed cover or whatever, but we had solid 19's with a best ever 21.1mpg. Hand calculated. Why? BTW the computer is high .3 to .7 high, and sometimes on long distances spot on.

PS: above. Doing the speed limit 70-75mph. Intresting that we rerouted our way home to I-10 and the hills west of San Antonio where the limit was 80mph. I thought the mpg would crash, but it was actually climbing. Maybe the engine going from 1700 to 1900rpm put it in the sweet spot?

Those aggressive tires on the 2019 will have a negative effect on MPG v. the highway tires on the 2020. Once you put larger and more aggressive tires on the 2020, don't expect to see those mileage numbers.

My 2019 F350 6.7 runs low 10's to mid 11's litres per kilometers on the hwy running between 100 and 120 kmphr. Towing I'm between 19 and 21 l/100km depending on terrain and speed. The 19 f350 has comparable milage to my 17 f150, until you compare towing mileage. Then the diesel shines.

I'm interested in mpg differences in gas models. The 6.2 vs the outgoing 6.8, and the new 7.3, unloaded and loaded to payload capacity, or with a trailer. I think the 6.2 and 6.8 would do worse than the 7.3, the 6.2 having to work harder being a smaller, less powerful engine. Same with the 6.8 to a lesser extent, and the fact that the V10 has always drank gas like a big block. All 3 are good engines, but I mainly want to see just how much better the 7.3 is than the others.
