I'm curious, would you still love it when all the free/cheap/reduced incentives disappear as they are and will continue to do so? Early adopters are quick to shout about benifits when they are available but don't consider the reality of cost when they are taxed and charged full fee. Wondering what your thoughts are on this?

Try driving it here in Chicago, in our last cold snap they were dying everywhere on the road. Then you didn't see any of them on the road because they were all being told or left in the house.. And go ahead and try to sell your Tesla after it's 10 years old, you're done. Hearts had to get rid of all their Teslas because you have two expensive to maintain and ensure. The author of this video he's coming up with absolutely 100% difference than Hertz figured out.. I had to cancel my order for the Cyber truck, they were getting 200 mi with good weather. Don't get me wrong I cannot wait for electric cars to get these problems fixed. Unfortunately, I think you guys are living in a dream world.

Except it’s mostly not savings, it’s subsidies paid by petrol car drivers given road tax would be £180 pa at least and patrol is taxed at roughly 100% compared with 5% for domestic electricity. Those subsidies will go. The EV purchase price is around £10k higher for a basic car e.g. Vauxhall Mokka and depreciation is much higher. For fast charging, there is also the cost of a charger at around £ 1000. The cost also increases hugely once you have to use public chargers at up to 85p/kWh. I am happy that you are pleased with your purchase but the economics are not favourable to electric cars in the future.

EV prices continue to go down when ICE going up. As we speak, new EV cost about 2-3k more vs hybrid for Toyota and Honda. Tesla new now cost on par with ICE premium equivalents.
@TeslaJigsaw
@TeslaJigsaw 6 ай бұрын
Electric cars will continue to get far cheaper as economies of scale kick in. Only 20 moving parts in a EV drivetrain, compared 2000 in ICE cars. ICE cars have reached peak minimum costs. EV’s are just getting started. People can fuel their EVs at home from solar… you will never be able to make your own petrol for free. EV charging costs at Tesla supercharger are average 52p kWh, but of course most people charge overnight in their driveways for a lot less, as I do. The economics are absolutely in favour of EVs for the future. They will become cheaper to buy (already close to price parity) way cheaper to maintain thanks to fewer parts, and cheaper to fuel using an off peak tariffs or solar.

Had a model 3 long range,white on white. Perfect for what my wife and I needed. 2 months of owning it she was hit going through an intersection at 50mph. She made a left into my wife and hit the front corner of the car. My wife’s coffee stayed put,it took most of the shock off my wife and kid in the car. Just a scar from the airbag that burned her. 3 months later bought a model y performance and happy with that. The Tesla insurance has only been 142 a month. The only thing I don't get is they still dont support vehicle to grid, I know they might eventually budge on this issue, as I think there Cybertruck offers it. I know it only a small feature for most EV car owners, but specially now you can get electric deals that give you better rates off peak, then during the peak time you could power your house, or if there a power cut or going camping, it a really hand feature that i just wish they support. It even more crazy when I think lower cost EV like the Leaf and MG4 support it.

The front motor developed a fault, but Tesla replaced it under the 8 year unlimited mile warranty at 175k, so I got lucky there. Also the battery seals perished to the point were water got into the HV fuse box which created a fault. Luckily this was just one month before it turned 8, so was still under warranty! Other than that a couple of suspension components have been replaced due to wear and tear and that’s about it. I have saved over $2000 US on 12K miles driven in year one. Electric Utility pricing is $0.06 / kWh. What I didn’t count on is over $800 in mileage credit, utility rebates, and free charging. Only $1300 of that is from fuel savings as do (2) 3000 mile round trips per year supercharging. But I have made a killing off of work travel where we get paid $0.65 / mile from the IRS, but I am only paying like $0.04 / mile to drive those miles. Pretty soon that loophole will be closed as there is not an EV specific IRS travel credit, so I am making a pretty nice profit on work travel. Location is everything. Here in California, the electricity costs of running a Tesla are the same as the fuel costs for a Toyota Hybrid. Throw in that the Tesla is almost worthless after the 8 year drive train warranty expires (Tesla will give you 12% of the original cost but only for a trade in) whereas the Toyota will go on running for years without any huge repair costs, and you see that Tesla's are not economically viable in the place where they started.

Not sure how you can calculate something different than Hertz rental )dumped most of their Teslas). Hurts proved that that car is one of the most expensive cars out there to rent, because of the cost of insurance and the cost of repairs. And that is not even to mention when that battery goes and it will go it's not if it's when that battery goes. The car is totaled. So after 10 years if that car if it's still running and IF the battery works, it'll be ready for the junkyard you will be forced to just drive it till it dies. And let's not talk about, how in Chicago when we hit the cold snap they were being told everywhere because they could not handle the cold. You did not see one Tesla on the expressway, they're all locked in their houses or towed. Unfortunately electric vehicles have to solve this problem, and they have to solve the problem of the expense of the battery. I was purchasing a Cyber truck, canceled my order. When I seen people are getting less than 200 miles on a brand new cybertruck I was done. Add in The cold weather literally you'll be lucky to get a hundred miles. Hate to say it but I'm going out and buying an old ice engine I just can't wait for them to get these cars up to par with ice engines. I'm hoping, they can come up with a battery that you can charge up in 10 minutes and a battery that'll last the lifetime of the car.

In no particular order: Teslas are engaging but incredibly easy to drive, they are clearly among the safest if you are unfortunate enough to crash, they are pretty well thought through in terms of design of systems, there’s amazing technology hidden away to keep them efficient and in the long term should prove great value. But I have come to Tesla without being a Tesla Fan. I had 20 months in a range of other EVs before alighting on a Tesla (cheapest LFP Model 3 because I am a non-home-charging type and expect to use and abuse the LFP pack). All EVs are some sort of compromise, but after nearly 14,000 miles in six months (yup, just checked, had to pay for it again today, another £400 and I would have been paying more than that in fuel if I still had my last ICE car) I’m paying about 8-10p per mile when I Supercharge (at least 80% of my juice) although maybe 15p on more premium yet convenient Volt’n’Bolts with the likes of FastNed, Osprey, Connected Kerb or whatever…. Today, in that beautiful 10 degrees and dry roads, I’ve done 100+ miles since a charge and am over 5 miles per kWh (last year I drove 3,000 miles in a week in a Renault Migraine, which was great but only gave 3 miles per kWh) and I still had fun and comfort in equal measures. Yup - don’t have to be a Fanboi, but can still like and appreciate this amazing bit of kit. Not the least sorry I didn’t wait for the refresh and planning on at least 5 years and, hopefully, another 100,000 miles.

The depreciation is a shock, that’s very good! Totally agree about Octopus.

Thanks for you comment. I have to mention EV fires. Global data of EVs shows that they are 80 TIMES less likely to catch fire compared to a normal engine. It’s just when they do, it’s global news. There are roughly 320 car fires per day in the US, which of course don’t make the news. Whilst I didn’t ‘buy it to Save the planet’ exactly, I did want to give my money to support the company that is doing the most to shift the world to a sustainable, cleaner electric future. No other car company was doing that, let alone producing anything near as fun as a Tesla 👍

The max range (running it it to 0% from 100%) of the CyberrTuck is ~ 254 miles without hauling anything in the back or behind it. That's abysmal. EV Trucks needed to be made in the late 2020s. Such a misstep by Tesla who enouraged other companies to make trucks and beat them to it. The pricing and range are not worth buying a Tesla; It doesn't do truck things very well. Model 3/Y on the other hand is a marvels that have changed the world. The Model 2 will continue that trend if they focus.

I have an 11 kilowatt solar array. Charging an EV from it, however, is not free. The power generated by the array is fed back into the grid, in my case, for 0.07cents per kilowatt hour. So my minimum cost to charge an EV is that "feed-in tariff". If you don't get a "feed-in tariff" in your area, then ignore what I am saying.

@@TeslaJigsaw Numbers don't add up for me. One Tesla powerwall can hold about 10 KWH, and costs, in Australia, around $10,000 AUD. During summer, in Australia, you can usually count on getting 10 hours sunlight every day, so I get around 100 KWH a day from the panels. Note, about 1 hour to charge one Powerwall, or all day to charge ten Powerwalls. It makes a lot more sense to use what I can (avoiding grid charges) in A/C and charging an EV. A better use of the juice than charging a very expensive Powerwall. Consider that 10 Powerwalls would cost me the same as a Cybertruck, which stores more charge than the ten Powerwalls.

@@TeslaJigsaw having EVs is one of the reasons we got Powerwalls. And since we can pull solar or stored power into the car without having it metered, the only thing we lose is decreasing the credits on the power bill. Another reason for Powerwalls is that we have peak electrical rate times. We set the Powerwalls to automatically pick up the house load during these times. So we never buy electricity from the power company at peak rates. The final reason is during an outage we could go for several days to many weeks without using the grid. We only tested this for running the house for 10 days or so, but that convinced us we would be fine in the zombie apocalypse.

@@BobbieGWhiz the way the charging stats part of the app works is it shows how many kWh added multiplied by the cost per kWh. I guess maybe it isn’t underestimating. I think what I was trying to say is that I pay .11 per kWh and my model 3 battery is 75 kWh so it costs $8 to fully charge. How many miles I get from those $8 varies depending on how much I drive at once vs charge once a week or so. If I drive 21 miles per day and only charge to 80% once per week I will probably get about 160 miles for $8. If I drive almost the entirety of the battery for say 275 miles in one day I’m getting 275 miles for $8. Does that make sense? The “loss” or added expense would be reduced if I just replenished to 80% charge every day.

I am all for using more efficient methods to use energy, however it is not as much as a no brainer as you make it out to be. No doubt teslas are great cars in many respects, but if what you are going for is to be in the lower end of operation cost, each person has to do their own calculations and tolerance in their budgets for those numbers to change. You are gonna be spending in the range of 320-420 pounds / month (electricity 5-10, depreciation 294-330, ~25-30 maintenance, insurance 40-50) over the life of the car. Now, keep in mind that what makes this competitive for you at the moment will only tend to increase. More demand on electricity from EV's will only increase your rate, increased production and sale of EV's and better EV's will increase depreciation, taxes will not be eternally exempt for EV's and more likely than not will return in a few years. The huge initial cost differential from the cheapest EV to the cheapest comparable ICE vehicle is still too high to make the change a no brainer, thanks though for being the first few to support the development of the electric vehicle market (sincerely, I am not trying to be sarcastic. Long term, I think EV's will become a no brainer, not yet though).

@@JBoy340a I completely agree. I actually said that in my first comment. In the video he references the expected savings and the"Tesla stretch" to purchase one. I have friends that were considering paying more for a Model 3 about 5 years ago when Super Charging was free and electricity costs were pennies. They were driving a Honda Accord and the logic was they could have a premium Model 3 and over time it would be a similar cost. After talking with me and other friends they opted not to and are so happy they did not with all the depreciation and rising costs with EVs. So I make the comparison to a Corolla if the goal is looking for a similar sized car that would have much less cost of ownership.
