I have always thought that slight color value differences denote time, wear, and love... life itself. Perhaps I live too much in the past.

Now it's time to practice mirror shine as one cannot use leather shoes outside with all that snow and pouring rain. BTW pouring rain great would be a presentation about rain gear like trenchcoat, galoshes and of course James Smith & Sons umbrellas (or the like for folks on a budget) . Cheers

Great video. The quality of a mirror shine seems contingent on the quality of the leather on the toe. Cheaper leather is not as smooth, for starters, though I can get close to a mirror shine and enough to evoke comments. I find that the colder the water on the cotton (I use cotton balls), the better. Helps harden the wax.

Hi Guys, i have applied the Saphir cream and then rather too eagerly applied wax polish over the top before the cream is completely dry. This causes the wax to form a granular consistency and is very difficult to polish to a shine. Don't make my mistake and let your layers cure before applying the next product. Sorted it out now but took a lot of elbow grease. Great Vid Ash. These products are great, just let 'em dry!

An absolutely pleasure to watch. And a job done 👍🏻 I’ve not tried to build up the mirror shine quite like you have shoved, but I will. I use a nylon stocking to complete the last finish. It gives ‘off’ a powerful friction and create a very high gloss. Thank you for this new input, I can certainly use it I my routine 🙏🏻 Have a lovely weekend - Cheers from Denmark 🇩🇰

I tend to use white spirit instead of renomat, but it needs a bit longer for the leather to dry before I start conditioning the shoe. Great post.

Great video again! I recently picked up a pair of Cheaney Harrington black cap toe oxfords with Danite sole. I was leaning towards the Alfreds, but I got the Harringtons on sale and with a discount code for 1/2 the price of the Alfreds so the savings was beneficial to the pocket book. I was also considering the Loake Aldwych or sourcing something of quality on eBay and polishing up with some Saphir products, but for 159 pounds, a new Cheaney shoe made good sense to me. Your advice and recommendations from this channel were very helpful in the decision. Thank you!

Cheaney are a great choice and first class shoe, especially with the practicality of that Dainite sole. Let us know how you get on with them.

Thanks for an interesting and informative video. Very impressed with simple technique for mirror gloss toes, although my preference is to only polish my black dress Oxfords this way, as I think brown brogues look better with an even overall finish.

Very good tips on the color of polish. I’ve bought some Allen Edmonds in the past year and have just used clear Safir products because I wasn’t sure which color to use and they’re pretty expensive to just experiment with color. I’m curious about the soles. They look to have many years left and you said you’ve worn them regularly for 3-4 years. I love the idea of lasting soles.
@TheChapsGuide
@TheChapsGuide 3 жыл бұрын
The Dainite sole will typically outlast the leather equivalent at a ratio of about 3:1 on average. I prefer Dainite for the longevity, but also the water resistance in my damp country. I rarely buy leather sole shoes these days, unless it is for the most formal of situations.
