As an inherently lazy individual, I generally resent every moment completing mundane tasks (ironing being top of that list). Strangely enough, and as you say, I also find shoe polishing quite enjoyable and cathartic. I can easily spend a good 5-6 hours polishing a pair of new DMS Oxfords to No. 1 standard, with surprisingly little resentment. The best thing about polishing shoes is, with the right technique, you can see the rewards for your efforts as you go along. It’s quite compelling!

I always give up after a while, I get it shined, and work towards a mirror shine with the next few polishings. I just accept it wont be perfect straight away. I don't give up through boredom though, usually through interruption.

Nice job, I think they turned out very nice. I am a heel and outside lower part of the shoe guy myself. I really like the way that presents the shoe with a shine from toe to heel. I agree that it is pretty simple to maintain the mirror shine as to getting to it lol. Cool channel.

Very good. As I am a former Sgt Major, I used to water bull at the end, to get the best shine and no smudges.

Wow, amazing! Ash, what do you recommend to use to treat the heels that suffer scuffs and marks? Do Saphir offer something? Thanks

I personally simply apply Pommadier cream polish to the heels, but knowing Saphir they most likely have a special product that does the same thing ( at a high price). Stick to the cream polish and you won't go far wrong.

I was wondering whether the sole leather had also been starved of oils having been in attic storage for so long. Are there things we need to do with leather shoe soles? Guess I’m thinking sole leather cracking and whether this happens…

I do know there are products to feed the sole so to speak and also protect them too. I haven't gotten to that point as I am still building my shoe collection, I live in a rainy state so protecting the leather soles is important to me.

No sir. Those things are not beneficial to your shoes and the shine does not last. Wax polish is king!

Hoping to get some advice here... I have a few pairs of Alden Shell Cordova No. 8... for the mirror gloss.. should I get Saphir Mirror gloss 02 Neutral or 08 Burgundy?? Thank you!

The dealer I buy my leather shoes from says you should leave leather shoes on the shoe tree for 48 hours after wearing them. Leather shoes absorb sweat from your feet while you wear them and release it within 48 hours. Without shoe trees, the shoes can deform and can get damaged. Maybe you can make a Video how you tread you shoes after you wore them.

Many synthetic options out there, as well as boar hair. But I would aim for a synthetic brush if I were faced with your concerns

yep, technique might make it a bit faster but end of the day it's all about the layers. Interesting that leather didn't dry out in 23 years.

I know the mirror shine is the rave but I’m not a fan. I do enjoy a good shine and care for all my shoes as best as possible.

Horses for courses - I only apply a mirror shine to half my shoes, the more formal pieces. The rest are brush polished only.

Being a silly Canadian using Kiwi polish I'm a touch out ... well out of touch, with whats going on here,. I adore a well polished shoe or boot mind you. 5:50 Conditioning Cream 9:20 Cream polish 13:10 Wax polish 16:00 Mirror shine polish 25:08

I enjoyed spit polishing my work boots for the sake of it but then some dork stepped on the toe for some reason like he couldn't believe he could see his face in them... what a prick. Anyway always enjoy a good polished shoe or boot.
