Happy for a video, and good to “see” you. Beautiful mule, too. Question, not really related to this video, more of a general question: are there regional differences in shoeing horse and mules? For example, I also watch a channel that highlights Friesian horses in the Netherlands. She filmed an episode where the farrier came to shoe one of her horses (he did toe clips). So, do most farriers worldwide speak the same “language” and use the same techniques? Or is there a variation in farrier “styles” around the US and world? Thanks again for taking the time to film, edit, and post!
@beckylynn9640
@beckylynn9640 3 жыл бұрын
Good question, I'd be interested to hear his perspective. I live in Kentucky and my farrier uses similar techniques to this channel but also some variations and some of the guys on his crew are South African so it seems like at least on a basic level they're working from the same foundation with I'm sure lots of nuances depending. And if you're talking about the Friesian Horses channel with Yvonne, they are awesome too, I love watching them 😃

Just found your channel and I’m now obsessed. We didn’t learn anything super in-depth about hoof care in vet tech school so this is super fun to watch. I love watching/learning from someone who loves what they do! And you should feel proud of yourself for putting yourself out there. I know that feeling myself and it can be intimidating but you should be proud of yourself for doing it! You’ve got love from CT!

Does the horseshoe nailing hurt the horses/mules...etc.?
@m0sshroom

No they don't have any feeling in it. It's kinda like when you cut your own nails, you can't feel anything in your actual finger nail until you get to the part where skin is connected. I think hooves are sort of like really thick fingernails but if you were to cut too far they woukd start feeling it. Also if they were in pain they'd be kicking and showing that they don't like it

@@m0sshroom Hooves are indeed very thick fingernails. A horse's leg is basically one long hyper-specialized finger.

The other day I saw a video of a horse having some weird shews fitted, they were like normal shews but they had big studs at the back. Is this an actual shew or is it a mitchmach of some other shews I’ll put the link in the comment of this comment so you can see it for your self.

*shoes I'm not a farrier or S&S, but Google types of horse shoes or special purpose horse shoes. People have come up with a lot of different kinds of shoes for different work and different hoof problems

@@dizbish377 I looked at your video and looked it up, they're using shoes with "studs" on them. Internet says they're for increasing traction, especially for working in grassy or slippery situations.

I've learned so much about horse hooves, how to care for them, farriers, and horseshoes in the last few months. So happy i got this random recommendation.
