Kerckhaert has a number of shoes that have design features to aid in ease of movement or "breakover". Mike Wildenstein, CJF FWCF (hons) applies the Kerckhaert SX-Roller on the front feet of a horse that he felt would be more comfortable as a result. You can find more details on these types of shoes as well as videos and articles by visiting www.farrierproducts.com

Why don't you use clipped shoes, makes life so much easier when fitting and holds them on better when nailed.

@michael konstantinovich bordwell what does that have to do with clipped shoes?

@michael konstantinovich bordwell I don’t know what country you are in but in this country the only shoes fitted without clips are aluminium race plates! I have never fitted a shoe in 42 years without a clip except for a rolled toe shoe.. in those 42 years I have never come across any sort of infection because of a clip and have only had a handful of cases of the horse treading on a clip from a twisted or lost shoe. If you want to make life difficult for yourself that’s upto you, I have found this job tough enough without hamstringing myself! As for the horses I shoe, it’s not upto me if they are shod or not, that is the clients choice for which I am employed.

@michael konstantinovich bordwell so I suppose you glue all your shoes on do you? If the like likelihood of a clip going into the foot frightens you what does the possibility of six nails going into the foot if it comes off do for you? You really are an arse if you think not using clips is so wonderful! Clips have been used for centuries with no ill effects you can’t justify your reasoning if you still nail them on, as I said, idiot! As a side note, the majority of those “hairy horses in mud” that you see in my videos are old horses that have already served a lifetime of work but have been kindly donated to our local grammar school pony club enabling children who would otherwise never be able to afford to have anything to do with horses to learn how to care for them, learn to ride and even compete at local shows in the summer. They may not be expensive competition animals but in my opinion serve a much more worthy cause!

that stuff matters only when the horse has the exact same feet left to right..and no horse does

Apparently he's using 3 different sizes of nails... Interesting. City Head 5, then says Race Nail 5, and the banner said Sim Blade 5...

THAT HORSE HAS A STRETCHED WHITE LINE!!! You need to take the toe back!! Shoeing to the stretched sole instead of correcting will eventually cause long toe low heel! You'd think a farrier would know this!!!
