When Pedro spoke in the end of the video, Shohei was deeply moved. A very rare moment you see him like this. 🇯🇵

And as much as I love Ippei that part was so much better without any translation, just direct, heart to heart from one legend to another. Shohei understood everything, not just because his English is that good, but because those words Pedro spoke were so pure and transcendent that it cut across any linguistic barriers.
@surfwriter84619 ай бұрын
I agree. That was a strong expression by Pedro Martinez, and he did definitely speak for the baseball world and those associated with it when he offered that tribute to Ohtani. We all need to appreciate what a very special player and person Shohei Ohtani is and what he has meant to the sport, even beyond the sport itself. I don't think it's too much to ask the Hall of Fame to set aside a room for Ohtani. He's already more than earned it.

At the end, Pedro gave his utmost compliments in a way that Shohei could understand without Ippei. I was almost brought to tears by Pedro's passionate words just like Shohei

Damn, when Pedro thanked Shohei at the end, it seemed that Shohei was trying to hold back crying. Pedro's words may have meant a lot to Shohei.

Absolutely. Growing up seeing him play, Ohtani always looks up to and admires him.

Warmed my heart seeing Pedro thank shohei at the end and shohei’s reaction. All time greats across generations acknowledging each other

This translator is brilliant! He is great at reading between the lines and adding some words to make sure that there is no misunderstanding, which comes from the difference of both languages.

That's Ippei. He's not only Ohtani's translator but he's his best friend too.

Yes! It was awesome when he quickly translated the word cape into “Superman” to make it more clear for shohei
@chanrek Жыл бұрын
@@thafamilyjules He doesn’t actually translate cape to Superman. He says mantle (mantooru) for cape. The second part is “Superman no you ni” which is “like Superman”, because the verb “tobu” both means to jump and to fly. So as to make sure the translation is accurate, he uses the Superman metaphor.

@@chanrek ahhh I see! thank you for filling me in, I thought it was a direct translation. That's super cool!

To see shohei emotional just goes to show much he loves playing the game of baseball. You can tell he gave it his all with no regrets. The man is an exceptional talent and we’re so blessed to have such a humble yet inspiring athlete. Thank you shohei for making me and my family fans of baseball. Also super proud of team USA.

Awards are great but the respect and acknowledgement of your peers is something special, only people in your field can understand and appreciate how much work and dedication was involved in your achievements and when They say you're special, it hits on a different level.

What the people in the states don't understand about Shohei is that his life is all baseball. You'll all be freaked out on how much baseball notes was on his wall and in his diary during his high school days. Ichiro was another genius who's childhood diary had precise goals on how to become a pro but my god is Shohei a baseball savant in a sense that that's all he cares about.
@koningklootzak7788 Жыл бұрын
Ichiro is John the Baptist, ohtani is Jesus. Without John, Jesus wasn't baptized. Ohtani learned and copied a lot from the approach to baseball from Ichiro.

Ohtani gave a solid interview here. The questions are more specific, he’s not as rushed, but his answers are more detailed and less rehearsed than in his Japanese interviews. Excellent work MLB Network!

Pedro Martinez is one of the best pitchers to ever do it, so to hear these words come out of his mouth had to mean a lot to Ohtani. Thank you Ohtani, Trout, Japan national and USA national teams gave us a great game, as Americans, we can't wait to take the champion back and see round 2 Ohtani vs Trout in 2026
@victoranthony9037 Жыл бұрын
I wish Trout hadn’t been slumping going into that at bat. Ohtani is from another planet. I was so impressed.
@kochan1111 Жыл бұрын
After seeing Shohei battling Trout by throwing 100miles+ heaters and got Trout swinging strikes and count became full, the outcome didn’t matter for me either Trout gets struck out or hits a bomb to tie the game. Intensity of that AB and entire set up was something magical and can’t wait to see round 2 battle between two of the greatest!

Ohtani is an Athlete freak - in a good way. 6’4” and prob 240 lbs. runs like a deer, throws +100MPH, hit 500ft 💣, deadlift 600lbs, vertical 38” and according to former team-mates(J Upton, Dexter Fowler, Michael Young) he’s stronger than Trout and strongest hand grip on Angels!! FREAK! Top 5 athlete in the world.

This year's WBC has become the best final that will remain in history and continue to be talked about. For some reason, it's America vs Japan, and the last one is the same teammate's MVP confrontation Trout and Ohtani. No more showdowns. The opponent in the final was the United States. Whether you win or lose, you will feel refreshed. This is because if Korea is the opponent, the media will make a big fuss with various excuses and criticism of Japan if they lose.
In other sports, both teams shake hands or greet each other at the end of the game. But they don't do that in baseball. Why is that? Great showdown yesterday.
