Dodgers will make up the $700 Million to Ohtani on jersey sales in the first year alone. Dude is a national treasure in Japan. Genius move.
@Kevon420
@Kevon420 6 ай бұрын
that's a bit of a stretch, I've heard quite a few times that jerseys sales, even for global superstars like LeBron or Cristiano Ronaldo really don't make a fortune that you might think. Regardless Ohtani will definitely sell a shitload of jerseys and be nothing less than a superstar and probably reach even greater heights at the Dodgers.
@lahellight4337

not only jersey sales or even merch sales- TV contracts, japanese company endorsements - those japanese ads you see in the ball parks PAY BANK, pple fly from all over the world to see Ohtani play - more seats filled in Dodger stadium. Even if Ohtani is injured and doesnt play for a full year, the dodgers will have those endorsements and ad revenue . 700 million isnt much at all. the Dodgers make MORE for just having him in the roster - Ohtani is worth well over 1 billion dollars.
@cynicalexpat
@cynicalexpat 6 ай бұрын
Not sure if the money will be recouped that quickly but it will be recouped in relatively short order. Just Ohtani alone means increased broadcast right sales (more fans in Japan tune into his regular season games then in the US), home ticket sales 📈 IF he helps to get them there, there are the Championship/world series monetary payouts for teams. This, on top of the jersey sales/merchandising will mean the Dodgers will profit from this monster deal. The Dodgers are playing a game in Seoul next year, pretty sure its sold out already and the crowd will be half (if not more) Japanese and I would not be surprised if a one day stop in Tokyo is arranged prior or after the game - If Ohtani is there, the national interest, and subsequent fees generated, would be astronomical! Edit: the Seoul game is the Dodgers opening home games for 2024 so they will be Ohtani's debut in the regular season for the Dodgers the interest/media interest will be mind blowing.

I recall that I definitely heard you say that Shohei would never be the “face of baseball”. honestly I love it when Stephen A talks about the Dodgers. I always google too see if he says anything about them. I always like to see his take on the dodgers or the players on the team.

To be honest it's just too much money for one player...not hating on Ohtani...but for any player... because they can get hurt at any time...and imagine not playing for half the season every other season...

If your the Angels you better move Mike Trout before the season starts you could only be a good soldier for so long and the Angels organization did a terrible job because at the trade deadline they could’ve got something for him now there left with nothing and on top of that you let him go across town he doesn’t even have to move from his home
