Elvis is saying that HE IS THE BRIDGE. He will LAY DOWN like a bridge... over troubled waters to protect and support his friend. He will take on the rough waters ... the bad weather and inspire his friend to sail on. Its HER TIME TO SHINE!! VERY VERY POWERFUL lyrics that Simon & Garfunkle first made famous but ONLY ELVIS could take this song to the NEXT LEVEL. Cant noone do it better than EP.

When God created my friend Elvis he was just showing off. I can't tell you how much i love and miss him, there is not a day that goes by that i don't think of him and all the memories we made in 10 short years, his death knocked the wind out of me i have never been the same since, Elvis was the big brother i never had. He is also my guardian angel. Graceland is my go to place when it get's to hard to live w/o my friend i go there and walk around and remember Elvis and all the beautiful times we had together. He was the only person in my life that understood me and cared about my feelings and opinions. What it comes down to is we both needed a true friend and we were that for each other. Awesome reaction. Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel who wrote the song (their's is the original version) said, after hearing Elvis sing this song, that Elvis' version fit the song the best and he couldn't top Elvis' version. You can't get a better complement than that.

This was one of my Mom's favorite songs, she always told us that it meant that when we have obstacles in our lives that we can't seem to get pass, that we shouldn't worry because like a bridge over trouble waters, God will help us overcome them. I would love to see your reaction to Crying in the Chapel by Elvis.

if you watch Thats The Way It Is - you will see Elvis in rehersals with his backing singers practising this and you will see him telling them how he wants it to sound!

Elvis greatest voice ever to sing.. Elvis never wrote songs but what he did do was sing everyone else's songs and arrange them to sound better then original.. Elvis would have everyone back int he day wanting him to sing their songs for instance Dolly Parton song'' I will always love you'' that was later on made famous by Whitney Houston that song Dolly said '' i made that song so Elvis would sing it but Elvis's manager wanted her to give up all rights to song and she couldnt do that so she cried her eyes out '' Elvis never got a chance to record that song

"I will lay me down" means when the other person's life is fraught with a sea of troubles, he will be there, physically and/or emotionally, for the other person to help them cross over those "troubled waters" and get to the other side where things will be better. The bridge is a metaphor for his willingness to be of assistance to the troubled friend, lover, relative or who ever it may be. The song was written and originally recorded by the duo, Simon and Garfunkel.

It means he will lay down like a bridge and hold on to both ends so you can walk across on his back. Serious stuff. When I was a kid my mom hung a picture above my bed of two small children trying to cross a rickety bridge over roiling water in a storm, behind them a big beautiful powerful angel was spreading it's wings and arms around them, and guiding them, though they didn't know it. This song reminds me of that. A protector, a supporter and a guide.

What a fun reaction but mostly, man I knew you would enjoy that along with so many other people obviously. But I'm so happy that you checked it out. Man not only does it mean a lot of things and it shows you how incredible his band and backing vocalist are, and he arranged all that by the way, every bit of that he arranged it and there are behind the scenes footage of them working on it in practice. But at any rate, his vocal performance on that just blows me away every time. And I always believed there are just a bit of Tears mixed in with the sweat on these kinds of performances.

Paul Simon wrote the song, he had a big hit with it with his partner Art Garfunkel and when Paul Simon heard Elvis perform his song the comment that Paul Simon made was " How the Hell can I compete with that! " he also said " it was unbelievable " many song writers were amazed at what Elvis could do with their songs! that is why many allowed Elvis to have half of the Publishing rights because it was a good chance it would be a hit! Elvis made many song writers rich!

Hey Shon, I'd like to introduce you to another legendary artist that ran with a group of entertainers; known as the "Rat Pack" in the 1950's and early 60's. "Sammy Davis jr. - I've Got You Under My Skin/ Girl From Ipanema (Live In Germany 1985)" other artists in that group you may have heard their names mentioned, are Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin but also along with some you wouldn't have heard of before. They're style of singing was similar to Elvis Presley. They also performed in Reno Nevada and Los Angeles in night clubs just like Elvis did. If you enjoy the "Crooner" style of singing, which is the style/genre of singing Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin performed.

Just came across by searching Elvis reaction and like your reactions! I recendly find out that Whitney Huston song" I have nothing" lyrics was written for ELVIS by his ex girfliend Linda Tomson, and as i always liked that song, now that i know that just tooked it to the next level! You can consider to put it at ELVIS list and also antother great song "Black Velvet" by Alannah Myles that lyrics are about ELVIS (the writer inspired this song after traveling in a bus full of Elvis fans that were going to 10th Elvis memorial at Memhis) and react whenever you can.

My Mom was a HUGE Elvis fan. I sang this to her when she was dying. She passed 2022. The funeral home put Elvis on for her. I say she's in heaven with my Dad on one arm and Elvis on the other arm. Mom was my best friend for 43 yrs. If I could've taken her place, I would have in a heart beat. I would've been her bridge if I could have.

This was very much the way Elvis looked at life, he wanted to help and bring people together. He was executive producer of his music and put the Elvis spin on every song he did. And like you said he wasn't crying, baby he was sweating and passionate. Nobody ever put as much as Elvis did in every performance. That is why his gospel is so popular. He has sold more gospel music than any single performer in the World. In some countries Elvis is only known as a gospel singer. He sang and believed what he felt. Stay cool man. Thanks.

"I will Lay me down" refers religiously to the ability to rest now in the Lord's hands/bosom now that one has crossed over the troubled waters. Resting on the lord is the bridge over troubled waters.

This performance in my opinion is one of Elvis’ best. I get drawn in every single time I watch it. Bridge Over Troubled Water, carrying your friend and supporting them across the storm to better times 💙 Hi from the UK. Been watching your Elvis reactions from the start. Love how young you are and appreciate this man almost 50 years after he passed 🥰 Elvis just does something to your soul when you watch him. Captivating and mesmerising. You can watch the rehearsal of this and see how Elvis puts the song together how he wants it played 💙

What he means when he says I will lay me down? My take: Troubled waters represents the struggles the person is going through, and a bridge represents a structure that will take you across those troubled waters to a better place but if the bridge collapses from these raging waters, I will Lay Me Down and act like a new bridge so you can cross to a better life.

Good reaction! I appreciate your reactions and your enthusiasm for Elvis' songs and your interpretations of them. Just one thing though -- I really wish you would try to stop and comment at the end of a sentence in the lyrics, and not in the middle of a phrase where it ruins the full flow of the thought. Let the whole thought or sentence play out, then stop and comment. Just my suggestion. Thank you!
