Elvis bought homes and cars for many many many people, even strangers, also paid their medical bills, bought equipment for the disabled, played countless charity concerts with all the funds going to charity throughout his whole life and career. OK I researched the story about the “shine my shoes” accusation. It never happened. The "racist" rumor was started by a white owned music magazine named SEPIA written for the Black community that had an agenda. The goal: To tear Elvis' reputation to shreds before he got any more popular and spread black music around the country, through the suburbs and countryside, aka white America. JET magazine did an investigation and found the rumor to be a complete fabrication. Those words went against Elvis entire being. Elvis was like Eminem but on a much deeper grass roots platform. Elvis opened up doors that noone else could have opened, nor wanted to open at that time. He shook the world. Bottom line. None of the black folks that hung around Elvis ever believed that accusation. It didn’t make any sense. He donated far too much of his time and money for black owned businesses and causes. He worked with and hired Black people and black musicians to all types of positions. He paid for Jackie Wilson’s medical expenses. He raised money for poor black children that were starving. He played with and sung gospel with black children during his entire youth, and 10 years in black churches around the south. It just simply doesn’t make sense. That wasn’t Elvis Presley and everybody around him knew it.

Elvis's manager had him performing so much that he had a doctor prescribing uppers so he could keep up with the rigorous schedule. The drugs eventually did Elvis in. Most think Elvis was terribly mismanaged. If you can watch the new Elvis movie as it goes into it.

In Texas once Elvis was told his back up singers the inspirations need to be there and Elvis told them if his girls didn’t come and get the same treatment he gets then he would not be there. They went and were given the same treatment as Elvis and I admired that about him because he thought every one should be treated the same no matter their color or race and that was exactly who Elvis was and why he was loved by so many. ...on his 'sound' you have to remember, he was SOUTHERN, so, he had a 'southern' accent, couple that with s soulful cadence, and yes, probably hard for many people(especially in the north)to distinguish black southern accent from white southern accent. now, once you're living down south(as I was, coming from the north)it is much easier to seperate the voices.

And they would always sneak in the movies together and Elvis would climb over the barrier that was supposed to separate blacks and whites so he and Sam could always be together. While as an adult, his best friend was the awesome singer Jackie Wilson; also a black gentleman. In fact, when Jackie had his career ending heart attack, Elvis not only paid the hospital bill, but the nursing home bill for the rest of his life. Before Elvis was famous, and 18, he also helped Johnnie Bragg of the Prisonaires (a group formed in prison) record their top hit 'Walkin' in the Rain.' Johnnie had a bad stutter and Elvis a very slight one, so he understood, so he mouthed the words to Johnny when he cut the hit song after they had practiced together for about an hour. He'd also visit the group in prison to offer help with legal expenses, etc., when few whites would do such things. Elvis also recorded 'Crying in the Chapel' in 1960 and the black singer Carol Fran had a hit with it in 1964. Unbeknownst to Elvis, however, they released his version of 'Crying in the Chapel' from 1960, in 1965, and it became a huge hit and knocked Fran off the charts. So, when she later saw him she kiddingly said something about him knocking her off the charts, and he really didn't get it and was confused and also felt bad. So, he gave her a $10,000 check to apologize. Elvis was also best friends with Muhammad Ali, and when they playfully squared off in Elvis' suite, Elvis leg swept Ali knocking him to the floor, but everyone laughed as they were such good friends. That is the time, too, Elvis gave Ali a new boxing robe worth thousands that said the "People's Choice." There are so many cool stories! And, a lot of them are in newspapers so you know they are basically legit. Such as the time in the 60s when a white worker came to Elvis' house complaining that Elvis had replaced him with a black worker. With Elvis trying to patiently explain that the black gentleman had the job first and the white guy was only hired to fill in for him until the black gentleman returned. However, this didn't sit well with the white jack ass and he eventually started cursing Elvis and even used the 'N' word, something you never did around Elvis. So, Elvis dropped the guy like a bad habit and the cops came and took him away. lol I think Elvis was just about the greatest singer, too, as he could sing every genre, really awesome, which few if any can do. But aside from the singing, the stories - like above about him - made him like a modern-day superman. Such as the time he bought 30 Cadillacs for family, friends and even strangers all at one time. While he also regularly gave away jewelry, giving Sammy Davis Jr. a $50,000 ring and Red Fox something very similar. And, of course, for his maids, Elvis bought all of them several cars and even homes. He would also read the paper each morning and look for people to help and he one time read a story of a woman who could not walk and actually had carboard on her elbows and knees to get around. So, he found out where she lived and took her the best electric wheelchair money could be; showed her how to use it and also stuffed some cash in her pocket. Then, after walking out the front door, his bodyguard, Sonny West said, "You know, I don't even think that woman knew who you were." To which Elvis replied, "It doesn't matter; all that matters is that she now knows someone cares." He was just off the chain, dope, and I highly doubt we'll ever see anyone better. And, of course, it really doesn't matter, but it's for all these reasons and that incredible voice which makes him the greatest selling artist in history, with a lead that is so huge, he can't possibly be caught. It turned out that Elvis was not at this place and never said things like that. Turn out the writer had something against Elvis. The writer was told by the head of the magazine to apologize to Elvis. This happened in the late 60's. So all the Elvis haters just want to believe it. So Elvis had to carry this false accusations through his life among among other things. James Brown and Elvis were good friends. When Elvis pass James Brown was devastated . He had a private viewing with Elvis talking to him and crying. After so long he didn't want to leave. Brown body guards had to help him to leave.Elvis was a big fan of singer Jackie Wilson. They also were good friends. When Elvis heard Jackie collapse and was in the hospital in a coma Elvis paid all his medical bills. you can check this out on google. There is also a video of Jackie son talking about it. As musicians mostly perform at night, these could be a problem for them, because after concerts, they would obviously be hyped up, & then it would take several hours before they were relaxed enough to sleep. But Elvis had a problem going to sleep, & he also, unbelievably suffered from anxiety before performing, & he would often be doing two concerts a day for 5 weeks at a time, to sold out audiences. So he was taking prescription meds to help him sleep, & then meds to help with his anxiety. Elvis was actually a shy, introvert & he once said in an interview, that the image was one thing, & the human being was another, & it was hard to live up to the image. So he would take prescription medication to sleep (downers) & prescription medication to deal with his anxiety & to give him the energy to get through those two performances a day (uppers), & then after staying up all night, he would then need prescription meds to help him sleep (downers) so it was a vicious circle, & one that many big name performers have problems with. Those narcotic meds are highly addictive, which is why many performers end up addicted to them, & that happened to Elvis.

Yes, Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich! Make it buttered on the outside and grill it like a Grilled Cheese. They're SO good! Elvis did not do drugs, he took prescription medications due to real health issues that many people didn’t know about -Sally Hodel a journalist did a ton of research about his health history and found out he had an autoimmune disorder, as well as insomnia, hypertension, glaucoma, arthritis, liver and heart issues-at that time they didn’t have a lot of choices as to what to treat these conditions with and some of them were powerful medications. He did end up taking too many medication but it was in an effort to continue being Elvis.

But he was always under a lot of pressure; so many people were reliant on him for a living. And that wasn't just those who hung around with him. I had sisters who made sure they had the latest teen fan magazines. You could bet that ELVIS was on the front magazine cover. I inherited many of those being the baby of the family. I recall pictures along with the story that ELVIS had to stop riding horses near the public roads, because he would cause vehicle accidents when people recognized that it was him.

The "story" of what Elvis supposedly said has been proved a lie. A magazine article claimed he said it on a certain date at a concert in Boston, HOWEVER on that date Elvis was on the other side of the country and he never performed in Boston. It was later discovered the owner of the magazine was trying to destroy the popularity of Elvis in the black community and he partly succeeded since so many younger people believe the lie. The lie has also been repeated a lot by a particular black music producer who wanted the fame of conducting Elvis' band and was turned down since Elvis did that job himself. Jealously breeds ugly lies...
