Wonderful presentation with a great educational value for those who are learning, whether it be for those trying to improve their band practice or make their career out of live sound. These guys have golden ears for sure. Great camera work and great engineering work. A good way to put the frequencies into layman's terms. 10/10, guys! Rock on, Shootie School!

Thanks for the helpful video. How many Equalisers did you use in this video? Do the monitors have their own equaliser devices? Thanks.
@ShootieSchool

(2) Stereo GEQ's or you could look at it like (4) mono GEQs. One for each main speaker and one for each of the two monitor zones.

Should the tone be set on the strip or set at the graph, or is the graph only used to get rid of feedback?
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool 6 жыл бұрын
I would say the graph is not creative at all, it's just to adjust your rig to the room your in.

+Shootie School I'm thinking about buying that EQ. Is there any reason why you didn't use the 'Feedback Detection' Feature? I can't find a video of anyone using this feature to reduce feedback! Maybe it's just a gimmick?
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool 8 жыл бұрын
+NebulousWeb It's a great feature for the small price you pay for it. It couldn't work remotely as fast or accurate as good ears. We didn't use it because that would defeat the purpose of telling people to learn their frequencies. I think I got one of those for under $100 used. It doesn't reduce feedback for you, the frequencies with the most gain light up, that's all. So only obvious feedback, not necessarily "tuning a room", would be easy to spot.

+Shootie School Thanks. I'm thinking of buying the Behringer to replace a failed DBX 1231. It's for a school gymnasium (terrible acoustics) which is also used for concerts, and I'm interested in encouraging other teachers to learn how to set-up the sound equipment rather than relying on me to do it for them. If the fader LEDs glow quite obviously during feedback when setting the initial gain on the mics, then that could help someone who doesn't know about sound reinforcement to attenuate at least the main feedback frequencies (but I don't understand why I can't find a video of anyone using it for this purpose - even the official Behringer videos don't show it being used). I'm also thinking of buying a DBX 231 instead, just because DBX generally seems to be better build and sound quality than the Behringer equipment.

+NebulousWeb I think it will be helpful, especially for an inexperienced user. Watch this vid... kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ac-FgK2oqpixY4k.html The gainful parts of the song light up the graph. If it was feedback, the feedback frequencies would light up really bright and stay lit, so you'd know the area to bring down. You probably get the idea, but incase you didn't.
@NebulousWeb
@NebulousWeb 8 жыл бұрын
+Shootie School Thanks. Yeah, I saw that video and that's mainly what made it look a bit gimmicky. However, I could imagine that when setting up the mics, with one voice/instrument (and feedback) going through it at a time, the LEDs could be more useful. Since this feature is on a lot of Behringer EQs as standard I'm mystified why they themselves don't have a video showing someone using it to set up gain-before-feedback - it's another thing that made it seem like a gimmick. Thanks for the advice though - the Behringer is still on the short list!

Nice video! Is the GEQ applied in the system in "Insert mode" or "In-line mode"? which method is good for FOH purpose and which one is good for ringing out monitor? Thanks a lot.
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool 8 жыл бұрын
+Apache Cai That's case sensitive. For this rehearsal room and for the two smaller venues I've worked at, In-Line was the workflow. Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. Is there a noticable conference between the two? In what scenario will you prefer insert methods?
@ShootieSchool
@ShootieSchool 8 жыл бұрын
+Apache Cai I can't speak for Scott nor Chad. I simply don't use inserts for Mains or Aux channels. For me with small venues, never have so far and don't plan on it unless someone teaches me the benefit. Thanks.
@matheusmoraesm
@matheusmoraesm 7 жыл бұрын
I'd rather use it after the console, because we can keep the signal balanced...
@TempoDrift1480
@TempoDrift1480 4 жыл бұрын
The difference is that when its in the insert, the device is active regardless of what the board is doing (besides the channel fader and gain). When you use it inline you will notice that the character and effectiveness of the eq is decreased as the signal from the main fader is decreased. The higher the main fader is slid up the more "active" the EQ will be. Most professional setups run a mains EQ in the insert so that its operation is consistent regardless of the output signal going to the amplifiers. Either way is suitable though, just those slight differences.

+Bloodbath and Beyond We do want to encourage young engineers that want to go pro to learn and know their frequencies without these tools though. With that said, I agree. I use an RTA on my iPad often and always have an analyzer to see in post production.
