This was the first rounds through this new gun. We were using Berger 168 gr Classic Hunter ammo. The scope was a Leupold Mark 5 in seekins rings. We zeroed the gun at 100 yards and set the zero stop. Then we went to 521 yards where we were getting impacts on steel pretty quick. At the end of the range time we ran the plate rack at 474 yards. The targets go in decending order 8", 6", 4", 3". Overall we are very happy with the setup and would highly recommend it. #tikka #tikkawideland #leupold #longrangeshooting

I really appreciate it. I enjoy playing with the filming. If I could get over the feeling like I need to talk clearly(proper) and be myself it would be a little easier. Alot of work goes into lugging cameras around and editing. That comment makes it worth it. Only reason I do itis because I cant find enough of it on the tube. If I feel that way im sure there are others that feel the same way. Thanks for watching

Hey guys, great shooting! Glad you have your dad to do it with, that’s definitely quality time! I’m trying the same setup but with a viper pst 6-24 x 50. Would those seekins low rings you used work with a 50mm? I think the mark 5 was a 45mm if I remember correctly.
@outdoorsandmoreland343
@outdoorsandmoreland343 3 жыл бұрын
The mark 5 is a 44mm objective. I have not measured it but it think it would clear but might be close. Call vortex and tell tgem what you are doing and they should be able to tell you what will clear. We have alot of fun carrying on with each other. Thanks for comment.

Just got a t3x lite in 6.5 prc, do you think the mark5 in 3.5-18 is overkill for that or should I go with a vx6 series 3-18? Stuck between what scope to put on it hunting deer out here in the west

Even with that muzzle brake still looks like it kicks pretty good for a 308? Did you consider the 6.5 CM? Did you shoot it more than a few times in a row? Read some forums about the shots opening up kind of quick due to the barrel heating.
@outdoorsandmoreland343

It the pepper brake I believe is what its called. It is the one that has holes drilled all the way around. If we start shooting it alot I will talk him into a suppressor or better MB. It is tolerable but not something I personally would want to put 100 rounds a day through. I mentioned the 6.5 creedmoor which I am a fan of. I have ran alot of rounds through a creedmoor and already have dies and loads for it but he wanted the 308. It does shoot very well and he is very happy with it. We shot the barrel pretty hot at distance and it was still shooting pretty consistent but were not shooting groups. I didnt notice any flyers but we were not running 10 shot 90 second strings.

@@311hitwall I am a big suppressor fan but the mirage and length henders my match rifles. I run brakes on match rifles and suppressors on hunting rifles that are threaded. These are 20 lbs 6mms and they have zero recoil with brake. Took a while to get use to brake but doesnt bother me now. There is a major difference in recoil reduction from a good brake and a cheap brake.
@311hitwall
@311hitwall 3 жыл бұрын
@@outdoorsandmoreland343 So since you have experience with this Tikka would you get a different brake for it? Isn't it fairly difficult and lengthy to get a suppressor? Do you have any other rifle brands you recommend for hunting? I have looked at Bergara and Weatherby along with Tikka and Browning. I have seen quite a bit of bad info on Bergara and Browning. Springfield is coming out with a bolt-action rifle, but seems like their quality/design have been questionable, too.

@@311hitwall if I were going to shoot it with brake. I would buy an apa. The suppressor thing depends on if you want to buy suppressor which is a form 4 or do a form 1 and build one( buy parts and put together). I believe most ppl are efile form 1 and getting tax stamp in 30 day or so. I believe the form 4 is around a year but haven't done one in few years. There is a video of a guy that show and tells you step by step what to do.

@outdoorsandmoreland343
@outdoorsandmoreland343 3 жыл бұрын
No I use to. But after talking to and hearing some of the best gunsmiths say just shoot it. I gave up on the tedious process. I do clean it first few times i bring it home. On a new gun I generally foul the barrel until I start to see consistency in groups and mv. Then sight in and check accuracy.

@outdoorsandmoreland343
@outdoorsandmoreland343 2 жыл бұрын
I have not shot steel cases ammo through a bolt gun and the logical answer I should give is ask the manufacturer. That being said looking at it logically only thing different would be the case and it should be fine. Normally steel cased ammo is loaded pretty cheap so accuracy will prolly not be great.

@@grantdavies4282 I do not know much about bears. I would assume if you are close to them then any of the above would be great. I generally like different calibers for each gun due to reloading. I dont want to be swapping dies back and fourth. If I was shooting factory ammo then I would want same caliber and find ammo that both guns liked. That way i could stock up on ammo. Also what ammo is available in your area plays a big part. Obviously if your are shooting longer distances I would go 300 win mag or 7mm mag. If not 308 should work fine. That being said I have no clue about bears or how hard it is to kill them. Thats my opinion and thought process for buying guns.
