i love the 32 moa circle for fast target acquisition. so when you first start using a red dot, getting that thing from holster to eye level and on the right line of sight takes a lot of muscle memory. You dont always find it right away and it takes some shifting to find the dot, with the 32 circle you will almost always have a portion of the ring in view and that will indicate how to adjust to the center much faster as you have a reference point

I got that same model holosun a while back. Was about to take it off and try to sell it to recover some of the money I felt like I wasted buying the sight to start with. I was struggling hitting anything , I was doing much better with the irons. I’m strictly something probably below amateur and I struggle to find practice time with my work and all. After watching this video , even though I considered 6 yards way to close for practicing, I made a copy of your target and set it up 6 yards away and quickly discovered my problem was the way I was gripping the weapon. I know the video wasn’t about grip, it was about using the circle only, but you kept blaming less than perfect shots on your grip. Practicing this way substantially improved my overall performance at 15 and 25 yards. I read in the comments you have abandoned the circle only method. I’m thinking it’s part of what helped me , removing the dot seemed to help me focus on the target rather than the dot, something else I realized I was doing , I believe it had something to do with being so close to the paper. Even though you decided circle only wasn’t for you, I just wanted to tell you it helped me and the stuff about the way I grip the weapon is what helped more than anything. Thank you for this content, I will sub your channel. I’ll bet you are a top notch instructor. Thank you again for the content.

It's pretty intuitive to pick a location within the circle that correlates with point of impact. Having minor astigmatism the 32 MOA circle Works better for me than the dot or the circle/dot. This holds true for both red and green reticle but I like the green more.

I have one too, didn't realize till I got an amazon red dot for my AR. I think i'm going to go with the 507c over the 407k due to the bigger MOA 'dot'. 407c is 6 MOA so not tiny but I figure bigger will be better

I shoot bowling pins 50 yard’s out with my 9mm compact’s using the 32 moa circle with no dot. For some reason it’s just easier for me to see through the circle and hover it right in the center of the target without a dot obstructing the view. I do use a 2 moa dot to zero the optic though.

@@davek3139 25 yards is my sweet spot for all my handguns with red dot. 15 yard zero works ok but you can be slightly off at further distances. Zero at 25 yards if you can.

At 20 yards the 32moa will completely surround the three inch circle. I shoot pretty much 100%. If I want to stay inside the 1" circle then the 2moa dot is more specific. At 10 yards with 32 moa I get to see me pulling slightly to the right inside the one inch circle. Which tells me to adjust trigger pull and tighten up on grip. I love it.

I like the circle dot. The circle covers my pistol tree target at 25 and the dot is center of the target. I turn brightness down so i can see through the reticle, but still see it. So in daylight i can still see the target through the reticle, but in shade or indoors it isnt too bright. Just the circle is good if you cowitness the irons. You can get pretty fast treating the circle as the rear sight and post as front because they are both in the same place and not noticeably inches apart.

For some reason I feel the 32 MOA makes more sense even for CCW, you have that big ole' thing to place on top of a target and for pistol distances, I assume you'll be hitting most of the times
@defenders-usa

That makes total sense. I ended up going back to just the dot but do like the 32 MOA circle application as you stated. It just didn’t work for me so back to the dot I went.

Hi there and welcome! The astigmatism and that circle might flare a bit in your vision and cause more visual obstruction but it sure is worth trying out to see how it works for your vision.

Tips for sighting in if range ammo isnt the same grain as training ammo? What firearm was used here? What standard distance do you sight in and whats the furthest you’d trust yourself in a important shot placement against a non-expecting aggressor ?
@defenders-usa
@defenders-usa 2 жыл бұрын
The firearm here is an H&K VP9 with Jerkman Custom Grips. I sight in at 10 yards with 115 grain range ammo but then refine it with my carry ammo (Speer Gold Dots G2’s). Then, the tiny bit of compensation is something I have to keep in mind when on the range vs when carrying during daily life. I regularly shoot out to 100 to 115 yards on a 12”x12” plate (generally chest size) and I’d trust myself to make that shot…this need to make such a shot was something I realized after several of my fellow Officer partners where in a longer distance gunfight so I’ve made it a practice to understand trajectory and point of aim vs point of impact at such distances.

I just bought a Beretta A300 ultima patrol. I've never mounted a red dot on a shotty before. I'm looking at 2 Holosun models. A 509t and a 509 comp. The comp is more expensive and a tiny bit bigger. That one has the option to choose between a 8/20/32 circle. The 509t is just a 32. Is the comp worth a 100 bucks more to get different options for the circle? I'm just shooting for fun so nothing serious like competitions

You know, I've never played with their optics on a shotgun before so not really sure which I would use but if that extra hundred isn't insurmountable, I'd go with the one with more options. I really like options that help towards higher precision in today's litigious America so that's what I'd choose. Curious what you end up with and would love to get your thoughts of it all.

@@defenders-usaI have to make sure I find the correct mount for the comp. I'm hearing it's the same foot print as the rmr. I've emailed a couple of companies to make sure. If I can find one I'll go with that. I know for sure there's several for the 509t. Tomorrow I'll go out and do some shooting on the iron sights and see how I like it. I haven't fired it yet. My CC is open sights and my plinking 9 is also open but I might mount a dot on that. I'm hoping to find the same red dot I can mount on the 9 and the 12 gauge for similarity. Then again I wonder if I should just practice more with open sights? I'm sure most guys with experience with red dots would recommend being proficient with them.
