I don't often get out on early morning hunts but was glad I did this morning!! He certainly took some stopping with the 223 but the right shot placement certainly does the trick.

Good one to start the day. Sounds like you're getting a bit spoilt there hey. Having to use normal glass and not your thermal. Well done.

Thanks mate. Haha I sure am. Once you get right into using all the thermal gear it’s very hard to go back. It’s like going back to using an old button phone after having a smartphone. It still does the job and has its advantages but the smartphone has a lot more features and makes your work a lot easier.

Shot placement is always important, if we could all get the perfect shot on the first round we would. Sometimes you just have to finish what you started as Josh did here. Good boar, nice video.

That’s exactly right mate. You just do your best to make your kills as quickly and humanely as possible. Very hard sometimes especially with pigs on the run.

I'll shoot them on what people would consider a low percentage shot but I never intend to leave a wounded animal to die. 90% of my culling is on moving targets, once a round lands I'll see it through to the end.@@intothenight1993

Great video mate. Had to pause it to see if it was my heart beat or yours i could hear with headphones on 😂. I use a tikka 223 and my mate has the ruger. Both on point every time. Big boars are so tough. Have a thermal vid shooting a big boar and even with the last head shot, he was still going, shot gun sorted himout. Look forward to the next video.

Haha yes. I have my wireless mic attached to my shirt near my heart and it does pick up the sound when my adrenaline gets going when I’m excited. 🤣

That’s a bloody big boar. 223’s never cease to amaze me . Just replaced my Howa 223 with a tikka lite, 223. Can’t believe the difference. Hopefully this one won’t wear out as fast as the Howa. Cheers Lionel

I’ve probably put over 5000 rounds through the first of my two Ruger 223s and it still shoots as well as the day I bought it. 👌

I put 1500 , maybe 2000 thru the Howa using 22 gns ar2206h and 55gn sierra projectile’s, not what I would consider a hot load and couldn’t get less than a 50ml group at 100m . Put a bore scope down the barrel

Continuing my reply, after putting the bore scope down the barrel discovered a real mess. Contacted Howa and they want me to send the gun back for inspection. Don’t know what will happen after that. Cheers Lionel

I have tried it but after weeks of training them to get used to the trap I still only ever managed to trap 3 and I could have shot a lot more than that in less time so I haven't worried about it since.

The only cameras I use currently are my GoPro Hero 10 with media mod running my DJI wireless mic, my iPhone 13 and for zoomed in shots I run a Sony AX53 camcorder. I’ve been thinking of getting a mirror less Sony APS C camera but not sure if I’m ready to go down that rabbit hole yet. Just in the research stage atm.

@@richom23 cool mate. Hope the hero 11 goes well for you. The only reason I really use the media mod for mine is to I can put the mic receiver on and record good quality audio straight into the video. And use the light mod sometimes when I need it. But now most of my talking head stuff I use my iPhone 13 as it does a much better job in low light than the GoPro.

Good boar mate 👍 You could try 300 Blackout in the RARR platform. I used to carry 223 on the farm for decades but switched over to 300BLK in 2015 and haven't looked back for pigs and dogs. It will do everything the 223 does out to 200m, with heaps more punch, and is effective out to 300m with some practice for bullet drop. I do reload, but have found the factory Hornady 110gn Vmax to be a great performer 💪

I was thinking about it a while ago but my research told me that the 223 has just as much if not more punch than the 300BLK as it’s going a lot faster and flatter. And it is way cheaper to reload. So I’ll stick with the 223 and if I need something bigger I’ll use my 308.

Because that’s the rifle I carry every day and I love it. Yes a 308 would be more effective but my particular 308 isn’t as fast to cycle the bolt as my 223 and the pigs scatter so fast I need to be able to cycle quick to maximise my kills. The 223 is faster to shoot and if you have good shot placement it is very effective before they scatter too far. I should invest in a better 308 one day.

Sure. I use 55gr soft points from Hornady. I buy the box of 6000. It’s the cheapest way to buy them and they shoot as well as hollow points.

I have a subscription license to Soundstripe and just choose music off there. But I could work out who the artists are and give them a mention if you want.
