I'd definitely go with 304. Aluminum can leave black markings on wood if its not anodized. You may even notice the black oxide on your hands after handling it. I really like the overall design of the one in the video, and the logo must stay! Thats my two cents; I'm excited for the product!

I have the Rockler sled and it came with a stop. It's 3.5" tall. I would vote for the skeleton aluminum version with a flat finish. It would be the easiest to grab when I need to flip it out of the way.

as a machinist myself i would definatley recommend 304. stay with the rigid design. will cut down on cost due to less jet time. I would buy one here in the US

A plastic washer between the brass lock nut and the stainless would enable you to tension it by tightening it but still having it movable. Would also prevent the unlikely possibility of corrosion. Nice design. Really like the round stock in to t-track idea

I think that the stainless is the best material for it and your logo is a must. My sled fence is 3" but that was because it was what I had great idea!

My vote would be stainless. I would absolutely keep the logo! It's a great logo that compliments the stop design. Plus, don't discount the value of branding, especially when starting up a new product line.

Great design! The "cylinder" is very clever. I'd vote for the steel version. After building a few flip stops for my crosscut sled, I found that I got a lot less deflection at the end of a relatively thin flip stop design after I "thickened up" just the base area of the "finger" where it pivots against the block that secures to the T-track. It may not be necessary w/ your design, but it may improve any deflection issues with the 1/4 thick stop, if you double up the thickness just at the base of the finger where it mounts to & pivots against the "t-track cylinder". And you may also find that incorporating Nylon or UHMW washers will help the flip stop be able to pivot smoother & still be secured nice & tight to the t-track cylinder.

I like the aluminum to keep the cost down. A nice addition to it would be for some type of hairline cursor designed into it.

Nice design Ryan. A nice feature would be to knock the bottom corner off so no build up of sawdust occurs. Any sawdust will go under the the chamber and not cause a misalignment on repetitive cuts.

My vote is for stainless, I feel it will be a bit more rigid. I like the logo being included for sure. The round stock is ingenious. The nice thing about your design is that the t-bolt can be mounted on either side of the flip stop, so you truly can maximize your crosscut length to the width of your sled (minus the width of the Stop). I mentioned on IG that you might consider rounding over the leading edge for those that want to use it on a miter gauge to reduce the chance of it catching on the table saw surface. I'm definitely in for one when they roll out!

Stainless! Heavy feel, imagine the 'kerchunk-kerchunk' of knocking that think down then up!

I love the stop. I would go with the aluminum first due to cost. The stainless steel would be my second choice, but it is a very close second. Look forward to seeing you develop this.

Good idea, I hope this is successful! I use the Kreg flip stop and production stop, the flip stop is convenient but tends to move a bit when you slide a board against it, the production stop is stable but inconvenient to use. So I vote for SS no cutouts, has to feel rock solid with no play. And I like knurled brass screws, maybe combined with a black logo. Definitely have to keep the logo.

Very cool, like the design, the nut is a good idea.

I tapped a through hole in the bottom of the one I got from Rockler so I could run a screw through it as a fine adjustment. If you do something like that it's important that it be able to be flush with with the rest of the stop so you can stack multiple parts. The one I got from Rockler the stop wasn't square to the track which was really annoying to have to fix, so you can definitely put out a higher quality unit than what they are doing.

Stainless for sure. I like the two size options. Maybe a locking nut so you don't have constantly loosen or tighten the knob when you want to move it. It's either gonna be up or down.

Looks great! I wouldn't bother cutting the material out of the body; the fewer operations needed to produce the part, the cheaper you can sell it while staying profitable. In the same vein, for a finish if you anodize you can do a big batch at one time rather than hours and hours of polishing. If you include a spring washer on the tension knob it will be easier to get a setting you like. One thought on the stop itself - if you chamfer the edge where the stop hits the sled, you won't get sawdust building up there and throwing off your accuracy. Excited to see the final product!

I like the solid version better than a cutout version. It will keep waterjet time down and I think it looks nicer. I also like your logo on it. I'll be keeping an eye out for this and will probably buy one.

Anodized aluminum all the way Ryan! I'd steer clear of 304 SS unless you change other components to it also. Dissimilar metals will cause corrosion. I'll definitely be buying on of these .

Great idea & design Ryan! As others here have suggested, I'd go with both Aluminum & SS versions. You may also want to consider making one out of heavy duty Plastic as well (which should bring down the cost). For sure, keep the logo. Ditch the brass locking nut at the top for a better & quicker way to lock it in place. Finally, count me in for a purchase when you make them available. Keep it going, you are on a roll........... when I shop I look at 1) price 2) looks (I like the form of it, and the one with the hollowing.) 3) functionality, because nearly everything on the market will work. the logo is cool, but it would be hard to do with the hollowed out one. Both sizes would fit where I would need them to. I'm really excited to buy this stuff, no matter what you do.

Looks great. I would lean toward aluminum just to keep the costs down. Maybe you could have special runs of the stainless to make it more "special". Would be great to offer a kit with the t-track and plans for sleds and fences. Just riffing for different package deals. Not a fan of the brass knob. Would rather it match the silvery metal, but that is really just a coloring preference on my part. Anyway - great idea and thanks for all the great videos. Good luck. Cheers!

I like where you're going with this. A couple of suggestions though. First thing would be to add a plastic washer between the body and the stop to prevent wear and make the stop a little slower to drop. Another thing would be to shrink the knob. I have the Kreg stop track kit and the know is too big to use on my miter saw station. The smaller the knob, the better it can fit in tight places.

I think using stainless steel and blueing the metal and then adding the logo would make an amazing look.

I love the polish. You can thin lacquer and just dip them for a super smooth finish. I think hollowing it would make it too weak/flexible? Also the logo engraved looks awesome. If you are making a product you really should put the logo. Brand recognition! For the pivot you could use a locking nut and one of those convex washers to put just enough pressure on the flip to have a nice resistance. I really don't get the who brass and alum/steel thing. I have bronze planes with steel blades and they don't corrode. It is not like I am using my tools in the ocean. I take care of them and keep them oiled and such. I think the brass knob really looks nice! Cant wait to see the finished product, It is on my wish list for sure!

Maybe adding a spring in between the body and knurled nut would keep some tension on the flip so it doesn't have to be either locked or loose, it would have a little drag.. Dunno. Great design, hope it sells well.

My only thought would be to have a taller 'toe' on the end of the stop. That way, you can square up your first end of the board by sliding it under the stop, then flip the board over and cut it to final length. It would make it quick to slide the board under the stop so that you didn't have to manually lift it up. Or maybe an optional attachment for it? Just a thought..... Nice work! I'd pay for the stainless steel one for sure! Can't wait to see more- keep it up man!

I like the design, materials and functionality. I have some ideas that I will share and to be fair I have not read any of the comments so far so they may have already been mentioned. Make them out of all three materials at 3 price points. For those that want the brass look they can pay the premium and those wanting the most economical solution can pay for the aluminum and so on. Instead of a star knob have a cam lock, like on a bicycle rim. adjustable and quickly locked or unlocked for faster position changes and consistent "lock down tightness" This is purely cometic but paint the stop ( with your logo engraved ) then polish it up so the engrave part is contrasting with what ever color and pops out more...so "shopbuilt" will be what ever color you choose and pop out from the polished or matted metal surface. I think that would look very cool and help the marketability of the product. Best of luck to you. I really hope this takes off for you. Be sure to let us know when we can get our hands on one. I like the design... to choose the material is interesting... I think Aluminum would be your best bet as it doesnt need to be as hard as steel. Brass would look really cool, but for the shop I would think aluminum.

Looks cool...I like the shape, and the logo in it is a nice touch. I think aluminum is just fine, and I actually prefer that it not be mirror polished. My fence is 4" on my crosscut sled, probably because I have large hands.

Like the design. I think you should tap the bottom of the stop as well so you can micro adjust stock placement with a simple bolt.

Hi Ryan, to keep the cost down, think about vibratory grinding (I guess that's the right translation) after the water cut. Saves you a lot of work. what looks cool is a coloured eloxid finish and the engraving afterwards.....a red stop with you name in silver letters. Regards, Dennis

Would be cool to incorporate a small ball detent on the end of your cylinder base and the inside of the swing stop arm. Swing down and clicks in place. Swings up and clicks in place. No need for knob. Just a thought! Love the design man! Great work!

I really like the idea of you manufacturing and marketing this tool in your shop . I personally like the he combination of stainless and brass. That combination just says high equality. You may want to use a knob on it that is somewhat larger. Those of us how have been woodworking for a long time often have arthritis in our hands and small knobs can be difficult for us. I really like the concept. If using aluminum, powder coat it? One other design feature I would suggest is a through slot on the bottom so the dust and chips have a place to go and they're not interfearing.

I am new to wood working but I am a machinist by trade and I think the aluminum would be fine but the machinist in me says 304 all the way especially if cut with a water jet. great design and a clean look! don't skeletonize it keep it solid

I'm generally not the type person to buy something like this over building it, but depending on the cost I might, if not to just to help out a fellow entrepreneur.

It's definitely a cool idea. Polishing with a buffer I think would be kind of a waste of time and labor. It's a tool, it doesn't need to look like a piece of jewelry. Maybe for ease and volume a tumbler would be good. Multiple pieces could be done at once and it would also round off some of the sharp edges. The hollow cut outs are also over doing it and wasting material(metal) and more labor for the waterjet that you are already paying for. Remember to keep it simple, labor cost down, and waste to a minimum

I would powder coat the stop keeping it aluminum and the body leaving it steel. Maybe a mini lathe to get your body blanks with square faces. Once powder coated they will match perfectly and you can have a range of different colors. Keep the logo you should represent your brand. Goodluck!

This looks great!! I was just looking for a solution to the Kreg track and stop combo for a miter saw stand. I'd go aluminum with the flat finish, and I like the logo. Now hurry and start selling theses, cause I'm in.

Ryan I like the stainless. I didn't see it in the video but you might want to leave a small gap in the blade of the stop and the fence so sawdust can clear. It really will come down to price point. Can you afford to do it and make it a reasonable cost point. If this is just another high priced tool like Woodpecker makes I don't need that. I really like your channel

The Incra telescoping flip stop is already good enough but I wish you well with your endeavour.As for DIY woodworkers ,most of them are happy making their own ..BTW the Incra one is micro adjustable after the coarse 30 thou setup.

I prefer the steel version, and the only feature I would consider adding would be a threaded hole at the bottom for adding a bolt to micro adjustability.

I think you are right going with stainless, some of the stops I have seen incorporate a micro adjust feature and a pointer for when it is used with a measure system. But in the end it is a stop and should be made with the (keep it simple stupid) moto that is always the best ideas.
