We're up to 6 magnet slugs now? I guess it must really be cheaper than steel. But we're well beyond diminishing returns for each additional magnet slug; you don't get 6x the B. The most additional flux is gained by increasing magnet and top plate/pole plate OD, not stacking more magnets, but stacked magnets are a cost-effective way to get more clearance inside for coil motion.

I see plates from 1/4" up to an 1"+ assuming there's enough steel to utilize the magnets strength is there any advantage of thin or thicker plates? How does top plate thickness change how the coil interacts with the coil, do you get the same amount of magnetic field just less focused or does thick top plate make it more like an underhung...? It's something that's been making me wonder alot and I can't find the answer anywhere. Is there a publication or whatever that explains all this stuff? Your shop is like a subwoofer Shangri-La.

Really, from an engineering standpoint, it doesn't matter. There was a study done years ago by SpeakerBuilder Magazine about underhung vs overhung and overhung basically won because the coil had more material / thermal mass. that was it. No performance difference. I'll see if I can repost it.

I really just need more time to do something like that. The only thing that takes priority is payment. So once we get payment, then I can review what parts will work. I know that sounds like chicken vs the egg argument but we really just need people that are self starters and not afraid of a project like this.

hello i just recently ran across this channel and i really enjoy your views and opinions. i used to be into car audio late 90s but im disabled now and cant drive so ive just recently gotten into home audio and i just wantef your opinion on something, i am fixing to purchase a couple amps and i want to know your opinion on older A/V reciever vs. the mini amps that are out on the market now. i see where the distortion on some of the mini amp chips are very low but the amp usually comes with a dc converter power brick bigger than the amps some of the times. sorry for rambling but just want your thoughts on what to go with and i love classic rock and rap so i really like bass the class d amps i have are thin on the bottom end. thanks for any info you can give also thanks for your knowledge sharing!! loving your vids!!!!!

Flat BL is a hi-fi thing; it's meant to reduce distortion. But I can't hear your distortion when the point is to be as loud as possible. Overhung all the way for subs.

I'm thinking of trying to build my own speakers just to see if I can my question is is does more wraps equal more higher power handling and also does more wraps increase the amount of power that it's going to take to be able to drive the same way as say something else with less wraps on the coil this is something I couldn't find out anywhere I was trying to find it out but I couldn't seem to find any information on that so any advice would be greatly appreciated hopefully the question doesn't piss you off too much I'm sure you've got any more times than I could probably count thank you

More turns / longer wire = more BL force, not more power handling. Power handling is more related to how well it handles abuse... The problem is that you should NEVER abuse your equipment.

Yes. There's really no difference. The Brazilian amps should just be called high voltage class D amps. The silicon is good now to over 200v at the rails. The amps are just taking advantage of this.
