I literally never knew anyone bought sound deadening material to gain decibels. I have always used it as......wait for it.....sound deadening to eliminate annoying noises

I like to use "sound deadener" for road noise. New cars are thin tin cans, any sound treatment is a big improvement

I use and recommend to everyone to use frost king duct insulation foam and foil. It’s like 15 bucks a roll at Home Depot. It’s rated for hot and cold I’ve had it in trunk of my camaro for like 5 years and it hasn’t moved an inch.

I did noico sound treatment in bulty and closed foam on top and its covering 80% of the interior. I dont hear any feedback from the cabin at 4K watts. No rattles, no nothing. And If i didnt do this treatment It would not be the same by a mile. I have a SQL system and prefer to only hear the music and not any resonance.

I had a 2016 Chrysler 300 that rattled like crazy. I got two bulk ballistics kill mat from Best buy and did the trunk head to tow side to side. It did stop the vibration and rattles A LOT! but one thing I did not know was guna happen that did happen was my bass got harder and deeper! I listened to the same few songs that I always bump and ya they were hitting harder and deeper also.always had my seats down. I don't know if the waves weren't able to "break up" as much through the trunk and panels and went forward ? But it was definitely louder with a tighter hard bass hit.

I've used the asphalt based stuff..wouldn't recommend it in a hot place like mesa Arizona..however , you can go down to home depot and buy some aluminum foil tape for ductwork and that stuff works well too. If you want sound dampening and bonding properties between your wood panels you can use polymer based construction glue. The polymer glues form little octagon looking pockets that help insulate and create a sound barrier. Love me some damor'e sound engineered boss audio!..excellent video! As a youngster is always hear the words-Dynamat,monster Cable and just name brands of amps and subs and I’m sure most were happy when 500 watts was like WHOA!! I know back then aftermarket Alts and crazy capacity batteries were not as available and cheap but I’m pretty something was out there. I got some Nioco sound deadner It worked great for my bottom pan to my trunk under my box I still have some sheets leftover I may use on the inside of my doors but once you get to a point of serious bass out put either brace it,cut it out or gap filler Foam it. Or be like in the “HOOD” they are all about massive rattling and stuff falling of there vehicles.

I agree, I weak rattling door panel can be stiffened but putting a piece to stiffen and yes most likely make it rattle but at a lower frequency. Hopefully below the cutoff for a door speaker. I have a question. I am assuming you re-cone speakers. Where do you find cone kits for all of those? or do you just have them for the heck of it?

The shop I worked at we had the Stinger version of sound deadening spray we mixed saw dust with it it worked really well.

I always bought it to so the doors sound solid when closing and keeping the road noise away. Thinking about things a roll of Grace ice and watershied would do the same thing and is stickier as well. I probably would have been way smarter to use that.

100% agree. If someone really wants to buy sound deadener many was to find it cheap online or make your own. Definitely makes a difference with road noise. On the topic of does it gain spl, if done right with right material it 100% can but most average consumers using a single layer of whatever won't notice much if any spl gain by ear. Been doing spl competition for almost 20 years and deadening done right with right mater can have a substantial gain. All our spl cars over the years on average gain 3-4db from sound deadening before and after. But talking about 200-300 sf of deadening an entire car and sealing with multiple layers. Way more than the average consumer will do. For spl competition deadening is one of the most important steps if you want to be competitive. Most popular materials in spl competition is Vibraflex because its asphalt based and is more rigid and expanding foam and other materials like sand mixed with a hardening material is most popular in spl "street" competition classes where vehicles sound deadening is the only thing allowed. Butyl aluminum based sound deadeners can work for spl comp just not as good as it still flexes regardless of the amount of layers.

I have Nvx sound deadening in my truck, NVX triple layer, with an additional acoustic foam layer ... Now that is good for noise.. It's what recording studios use..i have that in my truck.. And holy shit it works.. triple layer= One layer for temperature control.... one is for the annoying noises. and last, the acoustic layer is to keep out more of the annoying noises coming inside or going out.. Music, road noise, etc . Of course if your window is down your going to introduce noise into your environment and if it's up, well you still can't put a foam later on that either.... So either way you're not 100% secured because of windows... lol 🤣🤣

Make your own mat. Thin foam glued to a very thin sheet of lead, with thicker foam on the other side, then another layer of aluminum. Multiple levels of acoustic decoupling in one cheap product that can be custom-laid-up in situ. If you quake in fear that the lead will somehow escape and murder your chickens, paint it first with Killz. The key is acoustic decoupling. Make any sound trying to get through the barrier have to go over multiple hurdles of different density. You can also use vinyl as the denser layers, but who wants to inhale off-gassing chemicals from all that plastic when you can instead have inert lead or aluminum?

good video i was just telling some of the local young guys about ways they can save money and still dampen/deaden their system. kids running a 90s tercel thats falling apart dont need to spend a ton on sundown deadener i cant remember the name of the product but in the flooring section of lowes or the homeless despot theres his liquid mastic that works great for paint on. throw a little sand in it too and you got yourself some cheap deadener.

Hmm.. well the way I understand it is (even if only a ⅒dB).. • reducing panel vibration increases SPL + SQ (similar to why it's effective to brace enclosure and roof/windshield) • reducing road noise ultimately increases SPL + SQ • reduces SPL losses (which is like saying increases SPL) by covering up voids & holes in the vehicle's body's metal inner skin as well as the foil skin used on most sound deadening helps the flow/movement of sound waves due to the smoother surface and less areas for the waves to become trapped. • besides imo SILESS all BLACK 80mil (Amazon) material looks better in my build where I've removed my SUVs interior trim panels. To be clear, I'm not disagreeing. I'm mentioning (possibly questioning) my understanding of automotive sound deadening benefits. I'm only familiar with SILESS and the similar but inferior KilMat which never again. Not that it matters but.. Dynamats work. In hi end home audio, it is used to avoid enclosures from the dreaded " panel talk". Imagine a violin or guitar, with a characteristic sound, and you start damping the "enclosure". That sonic characteristic will be obvious. It's the very reason why there are different types of wood that are simply preferable. Musicians will "know". Protect your Ears, how do we expect a perfect subjective listening, if all you are hearing are ruinous to your capacity to Hear. Imagine building a piano, using MDF. LOL.

Eliminating noises effectively raises your decibel to the ear....your brain perceives the sound as louder because your not filtering out the noises from rattles...so. in effect, it is louder.

you know that time you know somebody's right but you just don't want to agree with it because of principle? and then most of that principal is basically just bias? it took me a long time to get over the fact that some things just don't make sense and are in fact Audio Snake oil. then there are those products that just simply look nice however they just don't perform. And then there are those products that perform really well but if you just spend another couple thousand dollars you might get the good version of it? that got old really fast. however the thought of rebadging someone else's stuff? I know it's a standard industry practice but it just doesn't sit right with me. I'd rather make things that people will enjoy for a lifetime and understand that it's basically unique product from my company. also that I can hold my head up high and say yeah it's actually mine. that just seems kind of dishonest

Come on. Dynamite, etc works . Is it abused? Sure. Does it lower resonance of a panel? Absolutely. Does it benefit most car audio? For sure.

If we are talking boss audio I think they are shit in every category on all there products and USALLY over priced for there performance and quality. There phantom 12 claims 1125 watts on some stuff rms which absolutely no chance it will do that at all and even then it has a higher fs shitty materials shitty design and there stereo one of them is like 90 and is a single din and lacks any features pioneer may have sold to China which I hate and I've only ever liked 2 subs from them and they were over priced but sounded good but they sell a stereo that's about 80 or 90 and has all the features I could ever want besides like a dsp mic eq thingy or something give it a little flatter and a slight u shape flat to me just doesn't sound that great tho it depends on speakers but it would be nice for it to eq it to the speakers I have but at its price and fo it's features set and reasonable quality its a good deal in my opinion
