Dipna lives to shop and feels bored and restless if she doesn't buy things, clothes, shoes, bags, or jewellery. But the habit is eating away on her budget and threatens to put her in debt for the rest of her life.
Shopping is something most people do - but for some, it can become an obsessive-compulsive habit making it hard to live a normal life. Jasmine Harman meets people suffering from shopping addiction while investigating the personal and very emotional reasons for developing this money-consuming habit.

Because you need to have a sense of flair and style and an understanding of what suits a person's body and personality to shop for someone else - it's not just a 'shopper', but a stylist's job you're talking about. Does she really look like someone who could sell her skill as a style adviser?

Cleopatra Anthony designer bags sell regardless of their condition. Go into a designer exchange shop and they have everything from “like new” to “totally beat up” and people still buy it. I’ve seen people buy second hand bags that I personally would just throw in the bin. Also she seems to buy and then not use them so they’d be in pretty good condition. Most designer bags are sturdy and can definitely handle being squished in a wardrobe.

@@Jaxxie1981 the problem is that her parents got her whatever she wanted as a child, teenager, adult...and haven't taught her that she needs to stand on her own two feet....cause eventually they will find her a husband who will support her. Which will probably be easy cause they're loaded...so even if she's terrible with money, the husband will know they will inherit a lot. I've seen this many many times with colleagues of mine. One girl i knew, 28 years old, lived at home with her parents in zone 2 london. She didn't pay them any rent, bills...all the food at home was all bought by them! She walked to work so no travel expenses. She used to go shopping every lunch break and always got a £12 sushi. The girl had a salary of 30k and yet had 15k credit card debt. One day she broke down crying cause she was struggling to pay back her creditors, and asked my colleague to help her sort out her spending. Our colleague looked through her statements...she was spending 100-150 a day....about £3800 pcm when her net pay was under two grand a month....she tried for about a week to live on a budget but said it "wasnt the right fit for her"...her parents ended up paying off her debt...and she literally said that once she's married her husband will be able to support her lifestyle so there was no need for her to change... Just like Dipna, she had no style. Bought tons of stuff she never used. She would show off what she bought every lunch....but no one ever saw her wearing the clothes/shoes etc. This truly is a result of bad parenting ...and particularly parents still selling the idea to their daughters that a prince charming will come along some day!!

rlp230 the reason why she doesn’t wear the things she buys it’s because she did she doesn’t have a husband n friends so she’s lonely, I think she only works and stays home. And shopping is a way for her to be out n treat herself. Wether she wears them or not doesn’t matter as she does it to make herself happy, meaning the moment she shops around she feels important and satisfied. I think it’s more about shopping then showing off the items in her case. It’s sad it’s really sad. Theirs suffering stray animals and poor people why doesn’t she feed them. She will feel rewarded and will feel very peaceful.

Shopping is one big anxiety provoking experience because always I am calculating the price. I want to be wealthy so I can afford to date a shopaholic. I make the money and she shops and enjoys. So why not sell your house and and all your possessions so those starving people can eat? It really bugs me when people comment on how others should do xyz or shouldn't do xyz "because there are starving people in the world". There will always be inequality in the world no matter what.I'm a minimalist and have chosen to live this way as I prefer it but if I decide to suddenly live a more materialistic life, I'd do it without thinking about the inequality in the world. It's like those silly messages I receive on WhatsApp saying to skip eating pizza and give that money to the maid instead...well, should we all just switch to eating rice and lentils so we can all do nothing but close the inequality gap?
