Indeed. John Lewis Department Stores used them up until around 2008/2009 with their original printers intact, even having C&P added when the UK was phasing out swipe. Then they went to SurePOS systems before replacing them with DN to standardise with Waitrose, who switched to Wincor Nixdorf/DN after decades of Fujitsu ICL.

1995 age 23. Mom and I shopped at Bradlees in Burlington and Bordentown NJ. At the Burlington Bradlees in the late 80s, Mom bought a 4 set of wooden chairs that she kept for many years. She still has one left. I was very sad when Bradlees closed. This was a very nice store.

Hey Jane. Bradlees was one of my favorite stores growing up. The amount of memories I have there is incredible. Particularly the one in Stratford, CT on The Dock. We went there multiple times a week. I could tell you the exact layout of the store. That's how well I know that place. Mind you.. I was between 1-15 when I went there. It's just not the same anymore. I stopped by it yesterday for the first time since 2003. So 19 years since I been in that parking lot and it's a shame. All stores completely different. They knocked down Bradlees and built a BJ's Wholesale. So the entire store is not even the same shape or anything. Completely different structure. They had a water fountain ⛲, knocked that down for addition parking. Walmart across the street. Gym. Storage facility. I'll never go there again. Just curious, since you worked at Bradlees. Do you have anything from there with the Bradlees name on it? For example a vest or shirt? Bags? Anything really.

As you said, we were like family! We had many long term employees of which I became one. I was a cashier and also helped with layaway, service desk, training new hires, some supervising and cash office with an occasional short period helping in ladies fashions. Our store sadly closed in early June of 1996. The end of an era 😢.

This video reminded me that Bradlees used two different keyboard configurations on the IBM 4683s, depending on where the register was located. Front end checkouts used the standard POS keyboards and two line display, jewelry and electronics used the full alphanumeric keyboard. They probably had some GSA user exits that prompted for alphanumeric entry in these departments, so they needed the full keyboard. Also, Bradlees was one of the few big chains I was in that used the LCD customer displays; many chains used the double-sided alphanumeric display (Ames) or had two single alphanumeric displays (Hills). I'd love to see what user exits they incorporated into General Sales Application at the time.

I have about 40 of the physical film photographs from the grand opening of the Bradlees in Bridgewater, New Jersey in 1994 and it looks almost identical to the store in this video other than the food court having a Taco Bell/Pizza Hut (the Haagen-dazs and overall style of the snack bar looks exactly the same though) and the dept banners hanging from the ceiling are exactly the same and even the ceiling/light fixtures are almost exactly the same. I would imagine that this location opened at almost the same time and was fairly new when this video was shot. It is strange to see such nice Bradlees stores built in the mid 90s compared to the majority of them that opened in the early/mid 70s that most of them were. The chain was starting to fail by this point but the newer locations were good looking stores. Reminds me of the Ames in West Lebanon, NH that opened in 1997, that was also an extremely nice store compared to most other Ames

The Bradlees in this video was the Jersey City/Newport Bradlees and, just like the one you have the photos of in Bridgewater, both stores were built by Kmart as Pace Warehouse Clubs and were only a year old when Kmart closed this business. The store in Jersey City never actually opened as Pace. It was built and outfitted but Kmart pulled the plug before it could open. The Bridgewater and Jersey City stores were identical-and there were others in Paramus and East Hanover. All became Bradlees for a short period.

Honestly i feel K-mart buried Bradlees more than those other two stores....Walmart and Target didn't really start entering New England until Caldor and Bradlees were already falling apart. I don't believe there was ever a town that had a Walmart and a Bradlees at the same time. Target didn't come to New England until 1999, and Bradlees announced the chain was closing a few days after Christmas 2000, not 2002, I remember it well because I had classmates who worked there and I remember coming back to school after Christmas break '00 and they were upset they were losing their jobs. It was Ames that closed in '02. But really through the entire 90s, the northeast was K-Mart country with a bunch of regional chains fighting for the scraps. Then Walmart & Target swooped in and crushed K-Mart.

That's why it was a very civilized habitable society Those were some great times Now there is too many satanic demonic mentality disturbed weirdos that roam around society today And it's also because of too much black supremacy today And because of the third world barbaric savages that come to the United States and bring their third world barbaric savage culture with them They don't want to respect American people or culture or assimilate to the American way of life or don't want to learn or speak the English language Godliness, Goodness, Greatness, Gloriousness and Graciousness must reign again God Bless
