I work for a dealership in Zambezi Pretoria. My boss buys plenty cars from we buy cars all high mileage all has problems most was cut and join. Most if not all these we buy cars have issues we just cut the mileage do a very very good valet when you see the car seats roof lining you'll say it's fresh. From there we sell and buy more. I personally won't buy from we buy cars. We know 4 agents working as buyers for we buy cars we get enough stock from them directly because we buy cars offers the people little then we just commission the guys R500. 00 per car and off we go. Remember we buy cars is part of sa taxi finance and sa taxi has a bad name in the industry its called transaction capital

@@MuziSambo There was a group of guys who I think were an organization or something(Try looking them up). What those guys do is check the real mileage of used cars and they started offering this service because they have found out that there is a way to change reflected car mileage by altering what's reported on the odometer. Be extremely careful with used cars.

I bought a 330d E90 new in 2007 and have done 386500km and still running strong. My average fuel consumption was 6 L/ 100km, from about 300k it increased slightly to 6.9 L / 100km till current. It’s an M57 tu2 engine and still stock no mods or tuning. Other than regular service the following was changed Vibration damper Voltage regulator on alternator New battery Shocks at 200k km Control arms Reset steering angle on my active steering following a doggy wheel alignment by a reputable tire place. This car has given me 15 yrs of great motoring and driving enjoyment

@@mazibukomail yes, bought new, I am the only owner and driver. Serviced at dealership till end of maintenance plan at 100k then started own servicing every 15k. Key here is using fully synthetic oil, expensive but saves lot of headaches along the way. Brake pads, brake shoes (for rear handbrake) fuel and cabin and air filters bought at Goldwagen. I did front wheel bearings at 300k replaced like for like SKF. This car has been a true workhorse, used as a daily and long distance also.

@@stannxumalo8034 yes they are but you need to be a little bit mechanically inclined. For example never use a dead battery or replace one with lower amp rating. If your car’s system voltage is all over the show due to flat or damaged battery it will shut itself down or fry your electronic modules, otherwise these cars are solid if they haven been tampered with. The Diesel engines are bullet proof and super frugal, the 3L is a peach if you can find a good one.

Your fuel consumption of 6 - 6,9 L/100 km is amazing and unbelievable to be honest when your consider that the car has 190 kW and around 500 NM of torque. For the last 4 months I have been driving a 2019 VW polo GTI DSG 2.0 TSI and I struggled to get less than 10 L/100 km. But maybe it is because I live in the township with a lot of speed humps and junctions, Wena what type of roads do you spend most of you time and what consumption do you get in the city or township driving?

My experience thus far: I bought an F30 320d MSport last year in May. So far I have spent R6k on the 80k-100k gearbox oil change. I did this at ZF - they make the gearbox for BMW for those that do not know - they are based in Edenvale Gauteng, interestingly the technician told me that they see high mileage F30's with 200 000 km plus going strong. I paid around 3k for a full service kit which was just parts which I got from BMW Midrand - got a BMW Fanatics Forum Discount hence price was very close to Goldwagen prices, I did the service myself but it is not expensive at a mechanic, estimate say around R2k if you not a DIY person. Front brakes cost me R3.2k for parts, pads, sensor and discs included, purchased from IMCOMEX in Pretoria, easy task so did it myself after watching a few KZfaq videos but got quotes for around R1k from various mechanics. Expected on going costs are annual oil service, overestimate at say around R2k in parts per year. I upgraded the BMW screen to carplay which I orded from Aliexpress, it even came with a aftermarket reverse camera, this camera replaces the existing boot lid handle, camera is built into handle. It looks factory and no one can even tell it is aftermarket, cost me 5k including shipping and taxes. Purchase price was R230k for a 2014 320d Msport with 120 000 km on the clock, private sale so I took a mechanic with me to view and test drive the car, a bargain for a vehicle which was more then double when launched. My girlfriend drives a 2019 Suziki Swift GLX which cost us around R200k brand new, you cannot even compare the value for money. The f30 is such a dream to drive. I budget yearly for unexpected costs, I am currently putting around R2k per month into an emergency fund. I can do this as the car is not financed. So far I have put 16 000km on this car. Drove it to DBN, Nelspruit and St Lucia. The car is reliable, safe and has plenty of power, best of all consumption is around 4.7 l/100km on the highway and 6.5l/100km mixed driving. There has been some unexpected small issues but nothing worthwhile mentioning. I would recommend an F30 diesel.

@@MazwiZwane remember that's vanos intake and exhaust, oil pump pump because it's part of the service when doing timing then it's oil pump chain aswell plus all the guides and a new valve cover that comes with built in pcv but only because they don't do gasket kits for the valve cover so it should be replaced if doing the job properly. Vanos gears are about 9k ex vat each. If you are going to do the job do it right. The 318 has a 3 cylinder engine, rather get a Gen 1 Yaris, some of the common issues are; increased oil consumption, vanos issues and overheating. With 3 cylinders, the engine is also not harmoniously balanced, therefore the car is generally being driven at higher rpm, you would need put your foot and a brick down to get it going. The 320 is notorious for timing chain rattles, if you get it sorted early as a preventative maintenance, you might be good for the next +80 000kms, other issues to lookout for is the cooling system and the oil filter housing leaks. And if the tyres are not from the same brand, the former owner was a cheapskate who might have been cutting corners on maintaining the car.

I own a 2005 BMW e90 320d. I got it when it was 200 000km now I'm about to reach 400 000km and I've never had any issues with it. Open road I average 4.8L/100 and in town it's around 6.4L/100. The only things I replaced was vibration damper at 310 000km cause it had alot of play and then 325 000km I replaced clutch and flywheel and those were my only expensive repairs. Then it's just minor service every 10 000km-15 000km usually oil service and then I do major service once a year. Diesel BMWs are very reliable and strong and this car still pulls like its new and the turbo is still very strong and the vehicle is noticeably quick and responsive with alot of torque to enjoy.

The search continues.....i'd say for that budget, and considering high mileage tolerance; Option 2...yes, 2):, 320d ,whether it's the B47 or N47 engine, you'll get both reasonable fuel economy and fair performance. Option 1: 330d N57 straight-6; here you'll never go wrong, crazy amount of torque, fuel consumption not too bad for the performance, and quite durable even with high mileage. I have a 320d F30 Sportline (and it's a daily) currently on 335k kms, (performance mods: xhp transmission flash, custom software remap and downpipe). Bought it back in 2017 and mileage was 140K kms at that time. I've had a fair share of experience on maintenance, nothing that breaks a pocket . Even with the minor performance mods done , it still doesn't match the 330d experience.

What’s funny is, BMW is probably one of the most reliable cars lol. I’ve had a 2014 f30 320d for since new. Have never opened the hood before. Have never seen an engine light. Reached 200km earlier this year. That’s better than any other car I’ve ever experienced. I think the issue is buying performance cars. They’ll definitely be problematic irrespective of brand. Buy a good everyday car. The 320d is tops.

I owned a 320i F30 2012 model, yoh! Nightmare of car… drivetrain warning lights frm 30 000km. Spent the whole year in and out of repairs. BMW changed fuel systems, turbo, n many parts to no success and the car was less than 50K kms. Well the dealership borrowed me 520D for a year, it was very comfortable, heavy on fuel and lazy compared to the 320i. The 320i deal was scrapped and gave me 2016 320D. Now the 320D over 170K km, over 6years, out of motorplan, still a darling, never broken down. Just standard service. Brother in law also never enjoyed his 320i F30, ended up suing the dealership coz of constant drivetrain errors. Swapped it for Kia Sportage. Advice: Avoid petrol but Diesel dey are better versions.

Turbo problems Oil leaks Have a budget for replacement of brakes Make sure you fight to always park under shade. Long sun exposure leads to the plastics in the bonnet cracking and breaking. There's alot of plastic used in there. Make sure your engin covers underneath are not broken otherwise replace them. Keep it clean. It's easier to detect problems. When you keep the engine bay clean. However the strongest 3 series is always 320d. But if diesel pump brakes it's expensive

Dealerships make it expensive for 2nd because they have nothing to lose, they have enough money in the back pocket to ride it out and hope they make more before selling it for the right price(which is usually way less)

My 2016 320i MSport had endless coolant problems costing about 60-80k per year. 320d is a way better option. Stay away from the petrol version. Other than the constant coolant issues this is a beautiful car that by far the most comfortable car to own and drive. I currently have a VW Polo Life DSG but want my beemer back.

You've only done 25,000km in 2 years, thats really low. Cleary its a from Home to Work and back type car. I think buying a 2nd hand high-end car is highly dependant on what you plan to do with the car. Long distance or point A to B type use.

If you can secure that 2018 F30 320d MSport for R400k with that mileage, you’ll have a car for the next 6 years or so without any troubles. I’d also caution against buying a four cylinder petrol engine from BMW, especially the F30. Did you have to say that about the yellow A1 though? 😫

Muzi, go back and buy that 320D at BMW Mbombela - Try negotiating to R400 000. That diesel can hit 300 000km easily without any issues. Remember that unreliable cars can also have a huge impact on our peace of mind (mentally, emotionally etc even in bed for argument's sake). 320i is a no no no.

Bmw 320i & below it's a no no, 320d that's a good car with a good reliable engine. If u could afford 330d or anything 6 cylinder engine that's a yes all the way. I've owned a 320d(e46)/ 320d(e90)& 330d(e90), all of them used with more than 100k on the clock, but i tell u they had never disappointed me. I've got a friend who had a 320i (e90), problems after problems & the car eventually had smoke(bad valve stem seals). My cousin had a 320i(f30) & car needed a turbo. In short bmw diesel is the best engine.

I have an F20 bought It at we buy cars north gate,,,,at first was scared but noticed that engine had been done and good job too,,,,it was 130 000km going for 145k ,,,I took it,,,,because of I knew everything had been replaced timing chain kit to vanos gears,,,I was a good gamble,,,one year later I'm sitting with nice car with 160k mileage now and spent 10k so far on full service,,,,,it Is cheap to maintain if chain oil every 5k,,,It uses oil,,,,,BMW specifies every 10k by than your oil is not protecting but damaging engine.
