As a middle class Nicaraguan I can tell you that these are not the places that most people frequent when buying groceries and appliances 😅 I buy food at MaxiPali the cheapest supermarket, and cheeses and greens at the street market, also Facebook marketplace here is a really popular and a good alternative to look for appliances that are cheaper than sinsa and all busnisses have delivery and the option to pay with bank transactions. It was awesome to see you guys exploring these places and prices!
@BucketListTravellers

Hi jof410, thanks so much for watching and sharing your experience with us. You've confirmed what we suspected that that most people wouldn't use these places to shop. We certainly didn't when we were living in Nicaragua either, mucha plata! We also bought greens and cheese from street markets and street vendors.

The prices are not very low at the clothing store compared to where i live in America. The food is much cheaper though. Price Smart looks like a Costco, looks identical. Sinsa looks identical to Home Depot or Lowes. They got it very similar offerings in Managua.

Oh really, that's interesting to know! Did you study in the US prior to University? Yes, I think that people who haven't been here would be surprised by what is available. Price Smart is definitely more our style, but maybe not the $86 Diamond membership 🤔 I haven't seen temperature testing in Portugal, so that was pretty interesting, as was the Insta View fridge! Glad to hear you liked the video! Yes, we were surprised at Galerias as well, we are also definitely Pricesmart sort of people! That's interesting about Portugal. What is fascinating about Nicaragua is that there have been no mandated guidelines/lockdowns from the government yet businesses and the community have taken matters into their own hands. I'm glad we're not the only Aussies who were surprised at insta view fridges!

Hi Salvador, thanks for the suggestion. There is certainly less infrastructure on the Atlantic coast and we are equivocating on venturing up there as it is a long bus ride. Good video guys, as my dear aunt used to say to me when i was a child: "En Nicaragua vos podés encontrar las mismas cosas que hay en Miami, siempre y cuando tengas los riales" Which means: "In Nicaragua you can find the same things that you can find in Miami, but only if you got money enough" She used to tell me that when i complained that i wanted to live in Miami with my cousins. I could say that you should go to the very famous "Mercado Oriental", but that's not a place for gringos hahaha, i don't want to feel guilty if you guys get robbed there. To be fair, i've heard that nowadays it's not as bad as it used to be 10 years ago, but the best is not to go without a local friend to guide you.

No way @Crowne Plaza 😃 That's EXACTLY where I stayed last time I was in Managua 😅😂🤣 Although I must admit that I've made the rounds... I really liked the Crowne Plaza (old Intercontinental) and loved the Intercontinental at Metro Centro 😍😍😍 but I really felt SOooo comfortable at the Hyatt. You've got great taste 😉😉😉

Sí, hay muchos mercados locales en Managua, particularmente cerca de las terminales de autobuses. También hay muchos vendedores locales que recorren las calles vendiendo comida.

How those mall stores survive I will never know....I am sure the local people are not running in to buy $30.00 jeans....In America you can get an assortment of jeans for $12....I have a pair on right now I picked- up at a tractor supply store for $9.99...But those warehouse stores are bigger than here in America
@BucketListTravellers
@BucketListTravellers 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, we are baffled by it too. Wow, bigger than in America? I'm sure it would surprise people to know that you can broadly get the same amenities in Nicaragua as you can in the US, if you have the money that is.

For what it is worth, we wouldn't shop at Galerias either, mucha plata! We were baffled by the presence of that centre, surely it wouldn't do much business as it is too expensive.

I love my country of Nicaragua very much but unfortunately with the socio political issues right now and the coming election in November of 2021, things don't look good at all. I would like to buy some property in Managua but I'm going to wait until after the election to see "el panorama de Nicaragua." My advise to everyone who wants to move to buy a property in Nicaragua is to wait to see what the near future would brings to this beautiful land. What do you guys think?

Hi J, we would always recommend for people to do their own due diligence when it comes to purchasing in Nicaragua. We also recommend for people thinking of buying in Nicaragua to first live here and make sure it is a good fit. All the best with your decision.
