I can tell you EXACTLY WHY THEY HAVE THE LIGHT, I live in Florida, a few Years ago a Hurricane Hit, and I needed to get to the Hospital but there were limbs down and I couldn't even get out of my Driveway and had to cut some limbs in half to drag them, I WAS SO GRATEFUL THAT EGO HAD THE FORSITE TO ADD A LIGHT 👏👏👏👍👍👍

I was running this saw for about 2 hours at about a 30-50% duty cycle kzfaq.infoUgkxfQm1wmg0ItKDLavxj1nXtQY9HP7EF504 and it did a great job. I used the lever for the built in sharpener to clear chip buildup out more than to actually sharpen the chain. It managed to cut some hardwood stumps much larger than it's size without bothering the neighbors with hours of 2 stroke noise.

I purchased this model and I have had gas saws for years now. I would definitely recommend this saw. Today I was cutting up some oak trees that came down from a recent wind storm here in Ohio and atleast 16" in diameter and I was very impressed with the performance and life of the battery. I was tired of messing with gas and oil and the issue of pulling and pulling to get gas saws running!! It's worth buying and very easy to operate.

I have had this saw for 12 months now. Best chain saw I have ever owned, and I have owned quite a few. I am in Australia, and our timber is in general much harder than timber found in the US. Cutting iron bark gum over the weekend, and it goes through that hard wood like butter, when the chain is really sharp. I do not push the saw down, I just let the weight of the saw do the pushing. I have sold all my other motor saws, (3) and will just keep this one. I cut almost a ton of hard wood gum up on Sunday and used only one battery charge. Not pushing the saw the battery lasts a long long time. You will be delighted with this magic saw.

Excellent, informative video. Picked up the 18” today. Works very well. Pleasantly surprised how well it worked. Had to refer to your video to check the way to adjust the chain tension. Very different from the old gas oil saws.

Florida Man Uses Chainsaw in Shorts. 110 = Average number of stitches from a chainsaw accident. This saw rocks. I bent the bar, bent it back, and it takes all types of abuse. Tips: Bring two batteries on big jobs during hot days so you can alternate in case they get hot. Also I sharpen the chain after a battery’s worth of use. This ensures efficient use of the second battery too. Before the first cut of the day, run it for a minute or until oil flicks off the tip of the bar down on the ground. This will ensure proper lubrication for ironically longer battery run time, and less wear on the system. Just do not forget to refill the oil reservoir every time you go through about a battery-worth of cutting big trees. The oil will last a couple of batteries but the risk of premature wear may not be worth it.

I've had this saw for a while now, and I've cut a ton of wood with it, including a huge silver maple, and it always does great! No issues for me.

Also keep in mind bogging electric really pulls the amperage. So when cutting big stuff while not pushing will give you much better life

Incredible saw. I couldn't get my gas saw to start for the last time and hit the Google for alternatives. I am SOLD on this machine. I cut and cleaned a stand of 37 4" to 12" poplars over 3 days, cutting the trunks to 16" logs and I couldn't stall it. When my leaf blower dies... no more gas for me.

@Shop Tool Review. The light is amazing for when you take this out on the trails when you go UTV/ATV. You don't have to bring extra gas and it fits in the storage box on the back of the ATV/UTV. Run the trails, run into a log, You can pull this out and clear the path and keep going.

Excellent review!! One of the best of any kind that I’ve seen in a while. I just purchased the 16” ego 1604. If I had seen this sooner it may have pushed me to the 18”, mainly for the higher rpm motor, the auto tensioner and the head light that would come in handy for late evening or emergency night work. I went with the 16” mainly because it’s big enough for my needs and I wasn’t sure if I could use the 16”bar with the auto tensioner. Btw the 04’s come with the battery and charger the 00’s do not. The only critique I have is that with any chainsaw gas or electric, if you have a sharp chain and let the chainsaw do the work bogging down should not be an issue.

Great review ! I've owned a string trimmer and blower for 3 years now love them both bought the hedge trimmer last fall for clean up before winter that thing blew me away .... My mother in law had a limb about the same as your video go down last week I decided ok I'll try the chain saw I figured I'd buy the 14" but once I held the 18" for some reason it seemed like a better deal being brushless and all ..... The saw blew me away ! My second and third cuts i felt that cut-out once I realized I was forcing the saw to cut when the dang thing will just eat wood ! Funniest part was seeing a. 73 year old woman act like a little kid oh I wanna try .... It was a good time thanks to the saw EGO nailed it

I have this saw and I believe your first battery may have just needed a cool down as I have been able to cut a full hardwood tree around the size of that portion you cut down. My strategy is after making long hard cut I'll work on limbs then back to the trunk giving the saw a rest so to speak. Its definitely not a gas saw but it works great, is much more enjoyable to use and my new go to if I'm not cutting large amounts of wood. Worked great for lot clearing when only cutting trees into 8ft sections.

I can get plenty of use from that headlight. Sun goes down around 5:30 pm during mid winter here in Northeast Ohio. Sometimes it's dark by the time I get home from work and there is still work to be done around the house.

Sadly, three of my EGO batteries failed within a year. EGO changed the brand of cell inside these batteries and since then the reliability has declined. As much as I loved my EGO tools, they are of little use if batteries fail. It wasn't my charger as I tried a new charger at my reseller shop and they told me quite a few customers were complaining about EGO batteries failing. I really appreciated their honesty. I ended up selling my EGO chainsaw and mower cheaply and gave away my line trimmer to a community garden group. It was just too stressful dealing with EGO Australia. I've switched to another brand with no issues at all for many months. 🙏

just bought one of these after wasting an afternoon trying to get my old Poulan to run. Man so nice and quite, you done even really need ear protection! Will be nice when it's been sitting on a shelf for months not to have to take more time to get the saw running than it takes to cut up the wood!

Well now that was an interesting video and I have always been skeptic of battery powered chainsaws but this one does look like it has some promise.

As tight as the cover will go(and it sounds different when tightening now), the chain is still loose. Used to be ok. Clean holes, oil flowing free. tried two chains same thing. Can't see in the hole to check if thread is stripped though. Any ideas?

Think about a storm rolling through in the middle of the night and you have some downed trees needing taken care of in an emergency situation. Now the lights become invaluable.

I've had one for two years now, toally reliable and I've cut an awful lot of wood with it, kerf chain cuts well.

Thinking of buying one just to have a second 5.0 battery for my select cut and a BONUS chainsaw! Lol The only thing holding me back is my 16" Echo still runs perfectly and has a full kerf chain.......but it's the only 2 stroke tool I haven't replaced with Ego yet! 🤣

I got this exact model a little over a year ago and really loved it till just a couple of days ago. All of a sudden it stopped working. The battery is full, but the trigger doesn't do anything. And the light doesn't turn on. I guess I need to look into warranty or some sort of repair. Already found some KZfaq videos on repairing that exact issue with trigger, so I guess, I am not the only one. But I don't want to give up on it yet. Any suggestions of what to look for if I try to DIY repair it?

I had the 18-in after returning the 16 inch because the oiler mechanism was failing. I ended up returning the 18-inch because the oiling system on it too was lacking and to note it absolutely did leak all over. It's a shame I'm still in the market for a chainsaw LOL

My chain jumps the sprocket and can't get it to tighten up the chain following all the instructions. So frustrating. This is the second unit I have had. EGO sent me a new unit and still have the same problems.

Does it come with the 5.0 amp battery or the 7.5 amp battery?

I’ve got the 16 inch, the blower, hedge trimmer, and weed eater. LOVE LOVE LOVE them. I’m upgrading to the 18 inch saw. I used to make fun of people that wouldn’t use gas powered saws. Bunch of tree hugging beta males. Well, I’m sold on ego. No loud noises. No mixing gas. and they just get the job done......without all the noise.

Bought one about 6 months ago. Great for small jobs but not enough power to get through bigger trees. Battery does last a good amount of time. Wishing I had stepped up to a larger Stihl saw.

Good,wood have been excellent but for no leg protection! I’ve seen some mishaps and if it weren’t for the safety equipment being worn by the operator they could have been fatal? People tend to think just because it’s electric not making noise,BUT here you’re demonstrating just how powerful they are just as deadly as there petroleum/gas equals! .even half a day on the safe use and handling, one in particular the hand brake nothing to do with leaving saw on a slope.I’m one of the lucky ones who retired from work on the railroad track it was quite a tough and hard environment to work in ,I’ve got quite a collection of saws now gonna get myself a cordless there are loads of situations were you will be better off work near fish ponds ,bird cages,live stock,noise sensitive,close in areas,,,HAPPY FELLING but be careful no one wandering into your work area, it’s obviously the noise that keeps people AWAY.

I just got this chainsaw, I cut one log and it did great. The very next cut I had a hard time cutting though, I was perplexed. I took the bar and chain off and try to clean it with brush. Yes, I did put in oil before I started before anyone ask's. Any pointers you can give me to get the blade cutting normal again? I cleaned it, it's oiled, it's "brand new".

A couple of reviews on Amazon noted that oil does leak if you set it upright. One reviewer said if you set it upside down, it won't leak.

I did the same- by me, except I did the chipping. Spent 5 hours and he didn't offer to help(?) In this case, nary a thank you, whereas others show much more gratitude. But I believe if you go in to Pay it Forward do not expect anything in return, otherwise just don't do it. You've obviously had better luck with your saw than I've had. Although out of the box my saw did perform very well, except for relatively slow ramp-up speed. Again, what type and size of chains do you buy? You mentioned it but are you sure (had numerous blade issues)? BTW, Ego will not reveal their 'secret' chain dimensions and Oregon does not list Ego on their packaging. Ego shamelessly tries to protect their proprietary chain sales (which is an Oregon product by the way.) Ego is a conscience-less self-absorbed Chinese company. Why? For example: Why did #1 Home Depot pull Ego's products? Futile negotiations with the behemoth bunglers. I've tried many blades as I cut a lot of lots. And I continue to have cutting issues with the Ego, and I am a maintenance freak. Time to pull out the Stihl! And should one have problems with your small engines consult KZfaq goddess of small engine repair, Chickanic, or Steves Small Engine Repair. Both are excellent and this fella is the same caliber. Changing blades? As far as chain rotation, a good mental image for proper chain rotation is Santa's Sleigh. Yes, that's right. The chain's depth gauge (has a curved leading edge-google it) and that is the front of the sleigh, which is followed by a space and then the cutter. Santa sits in the space although I've never seen him there. Santa's sleigh does not fly backward so observe the rotation image on the bar and if there isn't one think of water flowing over Niagra Falls (top of the blade moving away from the motor and over and down and the blade's leading edge aka tip.) Also, be careful of the new Chinese blade sharpener that is touted on youtube by a lot of 'entrepreneurs(?)'. It clamps on the chain bar and you spin a sharpening stone. People selling and touting these are soulless shills who paid pennies on the dollars and rave about the product. I'm another idiot who fell for their sales pitch but when I got it I couldn't believe the misclaims and pathetic quality. Steer clear. Chain tension: Tighten it to where pulling on it and it will give a bit and produce a 'thwack'. But, I've found you should run the saw and typically it loosens and you'll need to tighten up a bit. And another thing, be very aware of Ego's quasi-customer support. Or should I say none existent. Seems they suffer from an inflated...ego. They are poorly trained script-readers who definitely do NOT believe in the adage, that the Customer is always right even when they're not and will put you through their obligatory softball, inane questions, and procedures. I have 19 Ego products and a battery that failed (They're super expensive, especially the 7.5's and above.) They wanted serial numbers on all my products, photos, videos, and receipts, and after... 1 1/2 years of their terrible correspondence, they said a battery had been delivered-IT HAD NOT-and they said they could no longer track the shipment so I was out of luck. FUBAR. I then wrote corporate in Georgia and...no reply. In essence, they played a little elapsed-time shell game. Nevertheless, I got back at them and went and bought a new device, swapped batteries, and returned. All-in-all Ego was and is a NO GO. Seeking a new brand. Lastly, I called to get the correct dimensions on their Chainsaw Blade and they wouldn't give it to me, they claimed I had to use their chain or I'd void the warranty. Huh? They just want to sell only their proprietary chains and want to keep the dimensions secret??? The last trimmer I bought had been opened and of course, the battery and manuals had been stolen. Lowes said to contact Ego. Wrote ego (lowercase) 3x's and... No response. Thumbs way down.

I have the mower and the battery charges in 20 mins. With 2 batteries, you you a good 5 min break every 40 mins to drink some water and catch a breath. Its great.

Will this 7.5 amp hour battery fit in place of the 5 ah battery on the Ego sp lawn mower?

I have the 16 and 18 inch saws. Neither of them put out enough oil; even after tank holes are debris free. The 18" bar overheated while cutting extremely hard wood. Otherwise, both saws work very well. The 16" is very close in performance to the 18"

I noticed the chain gets too tight when adjusting that tensioner. And the bar still wiggles up and down. Is that normal or am I not adjusting things right

I've found once you have tightened the side cover up enough so the bar isn't flopping around the chain is all ready way to tight. I have to leave the cover loose so the chain is at the right adjustment. By leaving it like that the bar wobbles side to side. Also its a very small chain and bar for a 18" not a bad saw if you live in the city and need a few pieces of fire wood. If your going to cut any amount of wood buy a real saw.

I bought one. I'm certain the 5 Amp hour battery wasn't fully charged. I've cut lots of wood and still have plenty of charge

How does this compare to the 18" Greenworks chainsaw?

...I have been using an Ego 14 inch chainsaw with a 56v battery. the performance I've been getting out of it has been hopeless - very poor indeed. It struggles to cut through even a couple of 10inch logs and then the battery runs out - not lasting more than 20 minutes. Are the comments below complete lies or is there something wrong with the chainsaw I'm using - thoughts please?

This seems like it would be perfect for firefighters. I remember seeing a video of a house fire response with a ff pulling and pulling on the saw to get it going to get on the roof and get a vent hole in it. These will start up when they need to. No gasoline or oil to deal with or cause risk and batteries can be changed out quickly. And they have lights.

I have mixed feeling about this chainsaw. It cuts great. Maintenance can be an issue though. After I removed the cover a few times to clean the chain, it became really challenging to put it back on properly without leaving any gaps between the main body of the chain and the cover or overtightening the chain. Just one screw here controls both cover locking and tightening and chain tensioning -- a major design flaw! It is often a nightmare to put the cover back on without overtightening the chain, or without leaving any gaps (which otherwise sometimes leads to a quick accumulation of sawdust under the cover and frequent jamming of the chainsaw, requiring to take the cover off again).

I just ordered this saw to replace an aging ryobi 16in gas.

I think the bar gauge is .043....Maybe that is considered .050?

Can't say I like that auto chain adjuster, it looked like mine when you tried to pull the tension on the chain, a bit too tight! I didn't see that "1/4 inch . . " ok I broke the law and used a generic .050 3/8 chain but my first time replacing it, ran it tight like what happens when you tighten that knob, and it started smoking out of the housing after a few cuts, (cooked sawdust!) not sure if this is a oiler malfunction or what, off to Home Depot to get a new eGo bar & chain, the first one cut like mad, just like the video preview! So if you back of the knob the chain will loosen? Seems M I C K E . . . . (mouse!) plenty of oil in the tank, no manual oiler buttons . . .

Ok, I had just written a detailed review about how disappointed I am with this saw as it does not dig in and cut through the wood like it shows in this video. Yeah, I had the chain on backwards! lol Seems to work great!! Tip to any newbies, I thought I had chain and oil set up correctly so maybe I missed it, but I caught it in the troubleshooting section of the manual, as it can fit either way so can be deceiving... Off to cut down the height on my thick, overgrown hedges!

That chain is too tight. Maybe they did something different, but it should be loose enough to pull away, but tight enough to snap back. Great review. I’m still thinking between this Ego and the Echo 56v saws.

can i use any brand of bar and chain oil?

Help! I bought a new 18" Ego in December. Use it once for about 20 mins (It's a beast) then put it on the shelf upright in my shop with a full tank of bar oil then when away for the winter. Returned 4 months later to find the saw sitting in a large puddle of bar oil. I now see the manual says to empty the bar oil tank after each use. Is this normal?
